Allow me to respond in a literally more sober manner:
Yes I did, am, and plan to continue to cap race all weekend. I do this for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that the wailing and gnashing of teeth from the "people who just wanna fight" is funny to me, we'll get back to that. Though one of the problems is that the game has shifted to an undeniable meta of high alpha PPC builds usually on really slow mechs, I do not like this meta. I find this meta boring.
When you run into a meta you have two choices Work within it OR try to break the meta so it shifts, (that is how meta's evolve BTW). When you run into a meta you DON'T like you have one option do your damndest to break it. That is my plan.
I consider the following results in any combination victory:
- Those heavy nasty high alpha mechs defend their base until they are fairly sure they won't be capped.
- Players respond to a base cap by trying to return and they will because they didn't string them selves so far it's not possible.
- Players start dropping in more balanced drops have mechs that can prevent capping.
- Teams actually scout using their eyballs to see an approachign cap a ttempt and shift to intercept it
- People don't complain when they get out maneuvered and capped because they didn't do any of the above
- I cannot cap because people are doing the above
I hear you say "i Play what's effective to win" I agree sadly that seems to be very effective right now, but guess what, So is running a pack of max speed lights and capping... It's very very effective. If you are ok with one existing and not the other you are a hypocrite. I dislike one over the other but the difference is that my response is to declare loudly my intentions and then try to shift the meta not Whine about it and try to have the other removed from the game.
Now the timing here is important with afforementioned event. So yeah I'd do this anyway because of the meta but because a fast cap prevents the assault mechs from getting a decent score from that match (they still get a win from my side though) people will feel it more keenly and maybe just maybe start defending, or opening their eyes and stop just marching to predetermined fire lines to get their brawl/snipe on. I'm not protesting events I'm protesting poor, boring play encouraged by the current community meta.
I've got several groups supporting me at this point, I'm having a whole lot of fun, so I'd advise your teams to defend your caps.
see you out there.
