I'd like to create an Assault which does 80kmh or more, absorbs plenty of damage, and yet can still deal out highish damage*.

Can anyone suggest a build that meets those requirements?

It would be even better if it could be built on the base of a Hero Mech, as I am quite fond of the +30% CBill bonus

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

* I realise this is ''wanting it all'' and that some compromise is likely to be necessary in one of these attributes.

Either AWS-9M or the Pretty Baby. That's pretty much it. Good luck trying to keep an XL engine out of it and still running that fast.

You can only go so fast at 80-100 tons, but I would love to see one running around at 100mph plus.. it would scare people to death.. lol.

I have a PB configured with a 400XL and max armor that runs at 89 including the speed bonus. Its a bit light on the firepower for a mech its size, but when used correctly its pretty good. It only has two large lasers and three SRM6s. It is a lot of fun but you have to be opportunistic with it.

Thanks guys. I will base it off the Pretty Baby so that I get the +30% CBill premium.

defeats the purpose of an Assault, however fun it is to pilot. The armor makes that a killer assault.

Pretty Baby's weapon crits are terrible. I'd rather have the 9M

I have to say that if I saw a Pretty Baby running past me at 90kph it would definitely cause me to pause in the middle of combat.

Things that large aren't meant to move that fast.

Then I would realize that anything moving that fast either has rice paper for armor or a straw and spitballs for weapons and I would tackle it; giggling like crazy the entire time!

Pretty baby used to be much more effective before the nerf to SRMs. After the SRM nerf its not always worth it to sacrifice that much firepower in order to close the gap quickly.

Pretty Baby is on sale this weekend. Check the various AWS threads for viable builds.

Try the "Steiner Scout" one. It moves at like 89.1kph

This is my PRETTY BABY.

You just have to remember to play it like a medium, not an assault.

So with the largest engine, double heat sinks and Endo Steel, and maximum armour, I can create a Pretty Baby which moves at 80kmh (before speed tweak) mounting 2xER Lasers, 1 Medium Pulse Laser, and a total of 14 SRMs,

What do you think?

I am wondering whether I might be better off with the Fang or the Flame...? Both are already around 80kmh stock, and will go faster once I put an XL engine in them. They are the same price as the Pretty Baby. They also have (I think) a smaller profile... making them slightly harder to hit than the Awesome.

What do you think?

EDIT: thanks for the links to your PB build, and the Steiner Scout.

I have absolutely no problems filling over 41 damage alpha in the AWS-9M with a STD 375.................

and 22 DHS

Is perfect companion for a light / medium assault lance.

Pretty much this.

...and the -9M has its own issues, but is better all around currently.

I'd really prefer to keep the +30% CBill premium if I can. That's what leads me to Pretty Baby instead of the 9M at this point.

Unless you think Fang or Flame are a better platform?

Pretty Baby hands down, IMO (since you want 30% - I still like my 9M)... but those two 'mechs combined w/ engines and modules are by far some of the most expensive in the game.

Keeping with the current Meta, might I suggest a 9M?

XL385, 3x PPC, 3x Medium Laser. Works wonders, and runs around at 77.9 kph before speed tweak.
