The map was Forest, the time was day
Assaults in Tourney, all at play
The teams were set, on the Heavier side
Though I had chosen a Medium ride
My Mech of choice, a Hero X-5
Amongst my Mechs - my favourite ride
Its nimble feet, with four MLs
And SRMs, rain merry Hell
My team strode out, in snipers' rain
A hail of Gauss, and PPC pain.
The range was closed, and foe met foe
Assaults and Heavies, toe to toe
My comrades' valour served them well
Not so their armor... many fell
Depleted cannons, wreckage piled
Against my team, the battle's tide
I weaved and wheeled, as damage grew
My torso turned a blood red hue
So to the flank, my X-5 ran
With new approach, and desperate plan
But as I reached the enemy's rear
A grim tableau at once appeared
My comrades dead - all of them, pwned
In my X-5, I stood alone...
With cabin warnings blaring loud
I gunned my throttle, spirit unbowed
For though the odds weren't stacked my way
There'd be a victor, this bloody day
Through over-confidence, my foes
Had split to deal my final blows
A Dragon showed his damaged back
He fell at once to my attack.
But from the grave, the coward called
Summoned a Cat, to my co-ords
And as it strode across the lake
The game was his or mine to take
My radar locked, but brought grim news
This Cat was cloaked in yellow hues!
My crits exposed, red blinking light
There seemed no hope I'd win this fight
He lumbered forward, keen to kill
I moved to cover - rock and hill
His missiles hit, my vision blurred
But still I flanked him, undeterred
My torso gone, and short of breath
My one last hope: a dance of death
Emerging at the Heavy's back
I focused fire in full attack...
The Heavy twisted, the Heavy turned
Into his back, my lasers burned
And though he danced with grace and skill
He could not sight nor make his kill
For tense minutes our waltz ensued
His back was slowly red imbued
Though mighty was my final foe
To him I dealt the killing blow
From Heaven's portal, comrades cheered!
Vanquished foes spared me their jeers
And from the field, I proudly strode
To write a memoir, in this Ode.
