Really, there isn't a single chassis in this game that's completely unplayable.

I'd give that title to the SDR-5K, after having played both. =P

I actually quite like my 2X. The 4x is awful offal, but I kinda prefer my 2x to the 3L.

I play it a bit like a damaged HBK-4SP. It wins endurance races- as long as I can stay alive I have the heat eff to keep shooting, and it does a surprising amount of damage. It's a great light hunter against anything without streaks, as well.

I tried the "lots of ML and an SRM" 2X, but found that with the current long-range meta I had a lot of troubles. I always seemed to end up in a position of sitting around, because there'd be a gap of terrain I'd need to cross before I could engage all the pop-tarts and snipers, and trying to cross that gap was guaranteed death. Swapping out for 2 LL and a streak makes you a tiny counter-sniper, and I've had a lot of success in that role.

Works perfectly fine, if you want to spend an extra four million C-bills on 15 extra KPH and then proceed to still be too slow. The way I figured it, if I was going to be slow no matter what engine I put in it, I may as well use one I have as opposed to one I don't, save a little bit of weight/a significant chunk of money, and use the extra mass to beef up the weapons enough to give it a distinct role the 3L can't do better. Heh...it's not great, or 'optimal', but I've had some surprising successes with it.

Question, can you swap out engines, weapons, etc. between owned chassis' of the same type of mech?

Why bother with the 2X at all when it is completely outclassed by the Jenner D?

Cuzz you have to play all 3 to level up your tree. And if you like the Raven (like I do), then it's worth it ;)

You can swap engines around, as long as a mech isn't currently in a battle.

It's what I did with my Catapults - I own a single 300XL, and I just put it in the mech I'm currently using. The other two sit there without engines in them.

Right on! That's good to know.

I've elite-ed my 2X and I'm close to doing it for the 3L. Hanging around the team and swinging two PPCs(normal+ER) at the enemy usually makes my day. PPCs are on the torso and arms are empty because they are usually the first to get shot (besides the legs which are the first target). XL 210 engine

@Hayashi: Heh...not quite. I've got a friend who's crazy about the series, but I myself have never played any of the games, nor done a lot more than watch YouTube go insane over it. I can recognize some of the better-known/more distinctive characters, I have a faint idea what's going on in Gensokyo (which seems to be all most anyone has, really), and I know where to find the wiki for when someone starts to go all danmaku with the references on me, but I'm hardly what one would call a real fan.

Anyways. Since it's come up a few times...the RVN-4X can carry a similar-ish armament, in this case sacrificing the medium lasers for jump jets. It's not great, but the jets do increase the mobility of the chassis some. At this point you're more of a pocket sniper than a real escort unit, but it may well do the job well enough to get one over the hump with the 4X. I can't really recommend it the way I can the 2X, though - the poor 4X just doesn't have the hardpoints to capitalize on the forced weight savings of its smaller engine the way the 2X does. Those left-arm ballistics just don't work well enough - the only weapons you can reasonably stick in there do not match the range profile one really desires of a slow light 'Mech, and machine guns tend to attract too much attention anyways.

One could always try a light PPC platform, but the days of poptart jumpsniping are in the past. Could still potentially work for pilots who're used to more conventional long-range combat, though the lack of backup weapons irks me. Oh well. Do the best with what one has - such is the point of this entire thread.

RVN-2X

This is what I did:

- DID NOT waste my time playing it (to avoid the frustration of it)

- Played any other mechs, to get enough XP. (and had fun playing them)

- Saved the C-Bill to buy the other 3 necessary ravens to master the 3L. (and its upgrades)

- Made a little investment to buy MC and changed XP of other mechs into GXP. (hell easier)

- FINALLY mastered the 3L and use a real Raven.

just my 2 cents mates.

I run a version of this on my 2X with AMS installed and the XL 210 off my 3L. Super fun support build.

Great read OP. Made me want to get a 2X and go crazy with it. It also gave me a few ideas for my COM-2D.

I had some fun with my two "bad" ravens. XL210 shared on both - 2xERPPC on one, AC20 (21 Shots) on the other and played on a double XP weekend. :D

AC/20 on a Raven... WHAT?

BRB buying a Raven.

Threads like this are bad. Makes me want to buy Ravens...

But I already have a Jenner and Commando to elite... at this rate, I'm going to end up running lights and mediums for eternity.

Thank you. I rarely get to spend much time in the cockpit, and was resigned to just sitting around waiting for matches to be over but this gives me hope B)

If I were to run my 2X now I'd probably go with a loadout like this:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...a1cd37608ab7197

ER Large Laser for range and 2 pulse lasers / SRM 4 for close quarters

The TAG laser is purely to help level it up faster...I mean assist your teammates.

I've been a big fan of the twin large laser Raven. I threw a streak in to help with other pesky lights, but this build is more meant for picking on the big guys:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...d6b40c6f822b523

With both large lasers in the same spot they concentrate damage nicely, and putting them in the torso instead of the arm gives a pit of durability. Not that you ever want to hang around long enough to get shot - bob and weave!

This is the RVN-2X (LRM15, 4-SPL, AMS, 170STD) I have been running recently: I still need to upgrade the engine a bit, not sure if the xl is worth it though.
