You people are silly. The Tau Empire is clearly the best solution here.

I started by reading about each faction in the factions section, it was ok. However it does not really go into any detail about each factions "philosphy", "tactics", "demeanear" are they aggresive?, Zealots?, Bullies, Snobs, Nice Guys??? etc.... sooo next.......
I went to the factions forums on these boards, but alas it's all recruiting threads, I can't seem to find much information there which has led to me here.
PLEASE
IN ONE OR TWO SENTANCES DESCRIBE A FACTION, OR ALL OF THEM OR CALL ME A NOOB, if you prefer, but I am sensitive and might cry.
thanks.

House Steiner: German royalty that are complete paranoid psychopaths that utilize feudalistic democracy to run an empire.
House Liao: Chinese royalty that are complete and utter nut jobs that rule through fear and bloodbaths.
House Marik: American type of royalty that are paranoid megalomaniacs that rule utilizing martial law style of democracy.
House Davion: British royalty that are complete Mary Sues that can do no wrong and believe in chivalry. They are also complete nut jobs that rule through assassinations and bloodshed.
House Kurita: Japanese style royalty that rules through fear, intimidation, and draconic honor system that for even the smallest slight requires you to commit suicide. Their rulers are also complete and utter nut jobs.
ComStar: A quasi-religious/technological hoarding order that are complete and utter nut jobs that believe that cutting off communications and supplies from worlds under the control of another House is a okay.
Word of Blake: See ComStar but add in terrorists that have no qualms at massacring entire worlds to further their political aims.
The Clans: Vat born megalomaniacs that believe that they uphold the true ideals of the Star League while doing everything in their power to show the universe that it's just lip service. They regularly massacre civilians and destroy technology just because they don't like them.

Yeah, that pretty much sums it up.

I feel it is hard to explain each faction in only 2 sentences. Each have the plus and minuses.

Position and size of the Inner Sphere in the Galaxy (red dot)

Major Houses:
In the beginning there were twenty clans, each with forty warriors. Over time, three clans were Absorbed (Clans Widowmaker, Mongoose, Burrock), two were Annihilated (Clans Wolverine and Smoke Jaguar(3060)), one was Abjured (Clan Nova Cat(3060)), another was split in two (Clan Wolf(3052)), and two eventually merged with Inner Sphere nations (Clans Ghost Bear(3060) and Snow Raven(Post-Jihad), respectively).
Periphery states range from single independent planets, minor alliances, small confederations, trade conglomerates, and major interstellar nations. The largest Periphery realms are able to rival some Successor States in wealth, education, political power, and military might.
Mercs:
In the Inner Sphere, private, contracted military units have been doing a lot of the fighting. Some are only in it for the cash, some for principle, but, whatever the reason, mercenary forces run the gamut from some the most disreputable to some the most elite troops around. Many mercenary companies do not survive their first battle, but dozens have gone on to become successful, trusted units that form key parts of their employers' defenses.
Origins:
Following the demise of the Star League, warlords and private armies sprung up in vast numbers to fill the power vacuum. They have a place in the quasi-feudal political structure of the great Houses, and remain an important aspect to this day. Their size and composition range from the proverbial lone infantryman hiring his services all the way up to full combined arms regiments complete with DropShips, JumpShips and support units.

However, if that is too much ... well, a number of other posters already explained the Combine in a short manner. Space samurai, code of bushido, an even more visible clash of feudal stylings vs high-tech than in the other factions (example).
Granted: whilst stuff like not pursueing and killing crippled/retreating enemies (such as practiced by Amaterasu MechWarriors) is sadly just not practical in a game like MWO, it may still be fun to consider the aspect of honor and the moral high horse it could grant you when applying it to things such as remaining curteous in chat, not using cheese builds, or distancing oneself from controversial tactics - in essence, striving to have a good game for everyone, and not just victory for any price.
It seems you've already found your favorite in the FRR, however, and I certainly won't hold this against you. There's still a bit of a connection between Rasalhague and the Combine (the FRR keeps the "Starburst of Rasalhague" as a military decoration awarded only to DCMS soldiers who have saved the lives of citizens or soldiers of the Republic), anyways. Hope you have fun in the game!

Actually, on page 1 of the Kurita subforum, there is this thread ("Why Kurita?") which contains a lot of background information.
As much as I loathe goons...sometimes they can be a necessary evil.
