My points,

- This is a terrible way to win, cheating everyone out of c-bills, XP, and a long, fun game.
- Also, some teams don't have any lights and therefore can't possibly get back to base in time to stop the cap.
- Let's be honest its just trolling.

Well, it seems you started it.

Also, I'm not sure what you are running, but try playing a light. All this back and forth argument over what CAN and SHOULD be done about it is MOST EASILY rectified by you DOING something about it. Play a light and prevent the base cap. Don't like playing lights? Don't like people telling YOU how YOU should play this game?

Pot, meet kettle.

Just because you don't like it doesn't make it trolling.

It is a win mechanism of the scenario. You simply have to accept it and move on. Do what you can to limit the chances of an end run cap, and play the game for the fun. I've seen matches where both teams stick together and go to their respective right flanks. Both end up going for a cap, not because they are trying to, but because they simply missed each other's team.

Yes you are, you're still chanting the mantra "Please stop having fun wrong, so I don't have to leave."

It's still all about you, and having fun "the right way," aka "your way."

Then communicate this to your team. Look at what mechs people brought during the load and ask someone personally to do it. Stop putting the onus on us to win games for you. It's your responsibility, not ours. Either put in the effort to scout/communicate, or stop complaining.

The PLJ is the party of personal responsibility. It is encumbant on all mechwarriors (and mech warriorettes? no probably still just warrior no need to get sexist up in this piece any way where was I? to not get dead and win games on their own initative with the aid of their teams.

Pro tips:
  • When you get sniped, it's probably your fault for being in the way of the snipers bullets
  • When you get capped it's probably your fault for not stopping it
  • when you get snuck up on it's probably your fault for not seeing them coming
  • When you get Lurm'ed it's probably your fault for not getting to cover.
  • Point is if something bad happens it's proabbly your fault and you could have done something about it
  • Learn from it when somethign bad happens and it's your fault (hint: this is every time soemthing bad happens.)
  • If something keeps beating you, don't do the same thing, figure out how to beat that thing that's beating you. get your beat on
  • ummm... Don't use machine guns.... noob
You'll note that most things are your fault good or bad, and when I say your fault I mean your team unless it's bad in which case it's your fault personally either for not doing it your self, not communicating, or trusting simpletons to do something more complex that sit here and get shot. Don't be the simpleton... communicate. watch your corners watch your base, learn from your mistakes.

*excuse me sir but i believe that most mechwarriors with any manners or in game edicate at least try to hold this game to a little bit of a higher standard than Call of Duty. Go learn some meta game and know that sometimes all your doing is ******* everyone off.

I read that with my best British accent... in my head. *Tip of the hat to your magnificence, ol' chap!*

Seriously though, this really isn't that big a deal although I definitely know where you're coming from. Right now it's one of the best counters to the sniper lines that are all the rage these days. If I'm a light, and I get to within a few hundred yards of the enemy base, I tend to hit it just so the enemy team hears "Our base is being captured." The idea is to pull some of their line back so the rest of my team can start hammering away or flanking them. It's a valid counter to zerg-on-zerg sniper warfare.

Also, most matches should be about information warfare (not just grouping up in a big ball and running at the enemy zerg). Even on the large maps with a bunch of slow movers, it's easy enough to spot enemies rushing your base with enough time to allow your heavies to pull an about-face and still get back in time to defend. The trick is keeping a eye out.

Haven't seen any enemies and you're halfway across the map? You might wanna send a detachment back to base... Jus' sayin'

All in all, I think this is a non-pressing issue that will be addressed over the next few content patches (new game modes, etc.)

I still want to hear what the base cap complainers are going to do about me base capping. I'm going to keep queuing assault and I'm going to cap their base unless they come to fight me there. Nothing they say will stop me from doing so. So I want to know what they plan to do about it.

Again here's the options:

Fight
Whine/Lose
Quit

Which is it going to be?

It's like my Dad used to say: "Why should 22 guys beat the crap out of each other for 4 quarters and then the puny kicker with the clean white uniform comes on the field and decides the whole thing from 50yds away??"... man he hated that LOL...

Same deal here. Not everyone is a warrior or in it for the 'experience', or 'fun'... some people would sit and watch DOS code scroll down the screen for 5 minutes if it would tell them at the end that they Win. Other people of course, wanna run around in big stompy robots and blow s**t up win or lose.

Truth

I'd also recommend recording your games with Fraps or similar for later review. It is much easier to see where you need improvement when you can objectively view your game play outside of the match. Trust me, it is a whole different game than you remember when you watch it after the fact.

Of course 99% of the population have no desire to expend the energy to get better. Much easier to flood the forums and vent anger at tactics rather than direct that energy inward to improve.

Because those 22 guys couldn't pull off a win with brute force, so they need to call in a specialist to win it for them.

Because of that heavy competition. There was a lot less light representation this last weekend. But this one son of a gun, in a Cataphract no less, walked the long way around the enemy team while we were fighting them. And back capped them. He was the only one left by that point. It's arguable that we could have beaten them had he been with us. But in the end he saved our bacon xD

I sometimes complain against capping (though, to be honest, sometimes i cap too if fighting seems hopeless. it's a way to flee from the fight). It depends on situation. About the three options you gave i choose none. Instead I simply ignore W/L and concentrate on having fun when I get a good fight.

Funniest thing is that cap trolls are really hurting themselves the most. I get good brawls every now and then but trolls who run straight to cap zone with their laughable cap accelerators get bad game every time. They do it themselves.

When I pilot my lights, I usually have a set plan that I go by.
1.) run the long ways looking for enemy lights.
2.) Find the enemy and describe to my team (if in 4 or 8 mans) what I see. If in PUGS just tell # and grid location.
3.) Wait for them to get to mid map and go start capping their base.
4.) If they come back, runaway. If they don't come back, wait until the base is almost capped and watch to see if the battle is unfolding in our favour or against it.
5.) At any point if enemy lights are spotted I skip the capping until they are taken out or too damaged to go near one of my teammates.

Capping can split up the enemy team, so it is a viable tactic.

If the OP wants the first 5 minutes to have 25% slower cap rate, then for the first 5 minutes I would like to see mechs with only 25% of their weapons functional, or they only do 25% of their normal damage. (See what I did there?)

Sorry, but I almost wet myself several times laughing this weekend cap racing and had a great time. The good ones were where the other team started capping our base first, we cap them down, and then the enemy starts ranting about us taking their base. Good times. However, the even better matches were when the enemy sent someone back to stop the cap and we got to murder them.

If someone is capping - you know where the fight is. Why not get some instead of complaining?

I'm blunt, self effacing, and short tempered.

But i'm also (in this occasion) more right than wrong.

I tried nice a while back, now I'm just speaking my mind if it comes of harsh so be it.

but more to the point.

If it doesn't apply to you, don't take offense.

and if you are taking offense maybe you should think about why.
