Not really,
New mech, new event, trending meta... I mean really, you didn't need a crystal ball to see this coming.

However, I've only seen one or two posts per day about "boating" since Tuesday, so we have that going for us.

Jump jetting mechs are completely fine. Totally valid tactic, etc etc. What's a little broken at the moment are PPCs. They'll tune it eventually. They only have like 10 people that work there, it'll take time. Also them and their million Canadian vacations. And their igloos that they live in don't get the greatest internet. JK <3 you Canadians.

Alright, when the Heavy Metal Highlander came out, it was rare to see one and having Jump Jets was all well and good, now that it's available to everyone and EVERY FREAKING VARIANT has Jump Jets, it seems like in 95% of the games I play, over half the people are Jump Jet camping because they are too chicken to come out and fight. I am not sure who came up with the idea to give every variant of the Highlander the ability to equip Jump Jets, but it's making the game less fun.

In other words, new FOTM Mech is making the game less fun because of a stupid design.

I pilot a Highlander. Most of my builds don't have room for JJ. Or I can think of things I'd rather have there. Really, defensive JJ lose their effectiveness as the mech loses speed.

Only a friggen fool could not see that a new Jump Jetting assault mech would be the flavor of the month. It'll pass like every other fad when a new toy arrives.

Now in the old days, campers were people who sat huddled in a corner of the map avoiding fighting.

People jumping and shooting, and generally being aggressive to the opposition can not be camping.

I'm not sure you know what camping is.

I'm waiting until new patch notes come out to see if I'll start playing again. Poptarts were around for a while , but with the nerf to missiles, everyone wanting a highlander, Meta dictating that PPCs and GRs are the rage, it's kinda gotten ridiculous. I played the first day the Highlanders came out, had an average of 4-6 per team, most of them jumping up and down against the other teams poptarts who were...also...jumping up and down...not really fun. It was like a Mexican Mechs-ican jumping bean stand off. Maybe when missiles are brought back we'll see fewer poptarts and more tactics.

One easy solution to the jumpboys and the deadly yeah i killed it with one hit boaters, would be pgi does a aimconvergeance to the targeting, and the weapons can spread in that circle, like world of tanks or other fps games does, the longer you aim, the better the hit and the weapons can spread in that circle , so no onehit ppcs boats, and far lesser jumpmybuttintheair snipers, cause then you have to think, will i hit or not. But, PGI accepts boatloads and jumpysnipers, its the way to get killed at the moment, its fashion.

Damn those guys that are capable of flying through the air and shooting you. How dare they ruin your fun time of running into the open and mindlessly shooting lock on missiles. It's not even like you can do the same thing. You have zero chance of killing any of them jump campers. I would go back to playing WoW or Eve if I were you. I hear you don't have to aim in those games.

Yeah the jump sniping thing is annoying. Although I got thrashed last night by a Highlander using the JJ's to great effect. I was stalking around some terrain on Tourmaline and he hopped right over the crystals and cut me off from the rest of my team and then destroyed me. I was in a CN9-D and was already pretty tore up, but the use of the JJ's to flank me and bring the fight was a great move. I respected that.

I've only seen a few GOOD Highlander pilots, poptarting or not. The vast majority of poptarts seem to be a walking pile of "meh". Take out one torso and they're neutered, and their focus on Gauss + PPCs means they average between 35 to 45 per alpha, with the latter being 2-3 alphas and they're overheating, and the former being dangerous but not nearly as dangerous as other assaults. They sit in one spot and jump. Flank them with your assaults and they've got nothing. They're annoying, not broken.

Highlander have jump jets and long range Gauss cannon and laser or PPC since it long range and a lot of your firepower is long range and you have jump jets so you pop up and fire of course the highlander is going to be pop tarting. Now since there is a assault vs the world tourney this weekend and since LRM still to damage just less and since everyone is either pop tarting or LRM I only stick my head enough to fire and pull back before I get hammered since my Highlander is so slow. I still wind up brawling but not going to be the first out their to get with 2 er PPC and gauss from one highlander then missile out the from his teammates plus more gauss and ErPPC fire. After the tourney thing will cool a little back off but the mech flavor and a contest so take a week off and it should get a little better.

And if they were rushing you with the brawl, you would be complaining about that also. Be careful what you ask for.

This is not trending meta, I repeat this is NOT trending meta!!!!

yes, it is fairly easy to look at the current "perfect storm" and think "Oh well, the highlander just came out, this is totally just the trend because new mech."

Nay I say. No, this is "Back to usual business." is what this is.

You know what Mechwarrior 4's meta boiled down to? Take a couple of mechs that could mount ERPPC/Gauss combos... and jumpjets.

You know what MWO has boiled down to? Take a couple of mechs that can mount ERPPC/Gauss combos and jump jets...

You know what WAS in MWLL till they introduced heavy cockpit shake and reticle movement? Mechs with high yield alpha's and long range weaponry...

I see a pattern here... This is a return to "business as usual" for old players, That's all this is. There was a fix to jumpjets to make it easier to do this, and we began to see the first "poptart" cataphracts and Catapults... then we got the Treb and Highlanders... and we began to see it more. Because more options with heavier armor and more survivability.

This is a know issue in Mechwarrior games. and if it is not curbed NOW, it will stay the overarching meta, because it's what works.

I find that the number of pop-tarts are significantly lower in conquest mode. You might want to hide out there until the fad fades.
