Ya know, I'm pretty sure you're kidding, but the US has done crazier things, so I can't be sure.

I am not kidding.http://en.wikipedia..../Project_Pigeonthey trained pigeons to peck at an image of a ship to get a reward. So when they put them in a bomb with a window they pecked at the ship they saw, thus steering the missile towards the ship. We also trained bats http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bat_bombto fly into crevices in buildings in Japan. They airdropped bats with small incendiary devices mounted to them and they flew into the eves of buildings then got detonated to start fires.

Let me get this straight. You're playing a team-based game alone and complaining? Do you not see the disconnect here.

I am married so I am used to playing a team sport alone.

The current strain of pugging is the result of the LOL state that Elo is in. Every match up until the Elo "recalculation" was a match that was based off of the previous formula hense all those matches were broken, leading to the new broken Elo.

The Elo was essentially reset with random numbers and now most of the players are somewhere in the middle.

What I am saying is that small groups are not viable and even 4 mans are getting boring (don't even get be started about 8 mans being an exercise in bleeding). PPCs boats are currently only countered by other PPC boats and it makes games boring (and frustrating when your team is stupid) to play right now

funny, they said they recalculated the ELO using the new formula based on the old games. So your new ELO is as if you had been playing since 5Feb with the new formula.

I'm still inclined to agree with the OP that something isn't working properly with this unseen 'balancing' system. The more I play, the more I start to realize the pattern that I'm seeing in PUGs.. You'll get 2 or 3 wins in a row, followed by 2 or 3 loses in a row. What I think is happening is, the elo system is seeing your win/loss ratio going up, then continuously matches you against much more difficult odds and/or opponents, until you lose enough to off-balance it, in which case it'll stick you against 'better' odds and/or worse opponents...

Seems good in theory, but in reality, it tends to get pretty uninteresting pretty quickly. Reaching the point where you feel like it would be a better investment of your time to just disconnect or make suicide runs to get those 3 loses in the row out of the way.

If you reread your own post you will see that you have made the same point as me.

The problem being the new formula cannot work by using the OLD games because the OLD games were populated using bad Elo data. Hense the crazy games we are seeing.

Though where the basis of your argument lies in PPC's only being countered by MORE PPC's is a bit flawed. We've been thru (and will continue to) go thru a variety of Flavors of the Patch as I like to call them. New mech, new weapons changes, new whatever. So while I understand your frustration, it most likely is a short matter of time before it's a different weapon/ mech you're going to see as a FotP.

One of my concerns with the current Elo system is volatility. If an average Elo is 1300, and winning a match against an equally ranked opponent nets you a 25 point increase, we are talking about 1 match changing your rating by around 2%. Doesn't sound a lot? Well, the three win streak gives you roughly a 6% increase and if you go on a ten win streak, all bets are off. Imagine your twin player out there who just had the opposite trajectory, loss streaks instead. Doubles the impact. Now multiply by 4 if you are in a 4 man team. Crazy volatility.

NERF ELO!

Or more seriously, halve the amount of change per match. Possibly with a maximum increase/decrease limit per day.

The second view looks like the guy is trying to make a man/chicken hybrid if you ask me.

I don't know, I'm still having fun in PUGs. I do see more one-sided wins than when ELO first started up, but certainly not worse than prior to ELO. I'm not able to speculate on why really, but it's still a heck of a lot of fun to play. If PUGs become totally worthless, I will just have to find a group to join.

From my experience with League of Legends and Dota 2, many ELO systems seem to have a symptom where, if you have a winning streak, you are essentially guaranteed to have a losing streak afterwards. Not necessarily because you get matched against better opponents, but more as you get matched with worse allies, because your combined ELO is the same as the enemies combined ELO.

In a game like Dota 2, I would much rather have 4 mediocre allies than 3 decent allies and 1 awful person, because the awful player will feed kills. You can't feed in MWO, but one man down puts you on the backfoot immediately.

I don't know if that's an issue with ELO inherently in multiplayer gamer, or if that's a specific implementation issue with those games. However, if its appearing in MWO as well, its likely an issue with ELO itself in a multiplayer setting (considering it was made for Chess).

As for myself, however, I've noticed much more fair games. Perhaps I have not pugged enough, however, as I usually play with 4 mans or 8 mans.

I see the disconnect - but it's entirely in your post, not anyone else's.

If you look into a Chicken's eyes and move your head side to side, it will start moving its head side to side too. Pretty neat huh?

You know I have been PUGging as an alternate as well as playing as Joe for a few months now. I found that I can have as much fun PUG as I can in a Team. What I miss is the joking and chatting as I kill and get killed. Giant stompy robots are meant to be shared with friends over beers... or as one friend like Cookies and Bourbon!

In my current ELO bracket, even pugging, I've found that I see a good swathe of pretty decent and friendly pilots.

Its pretty nice.

I think in my 8-9 months of play I saw 10 people who were actual Ashats.
