The fact that no matter where they release the information, we will discuss it here on these forums. This pretty much invalidates what you say above.
<snip>

Nah, it does not. They use twitter/ FB to get a greater audience and its ok. but I wonder why they have to do it exclusevly on twitter/ FB before we start discussing it here anyway. So basically they are just out to get moar, which is ok of course. but it does not invaluate my post imo (of course) as WE will be discussing it, but THEY won't again. Thats the beauty with twitter ^^

Where did you pluck that one out of? ;)

Well, for forums are the main part of this website, and the forums have mostly become a barren wasteland of whiners and ragers. I think that the devs post what they absolutely have to, but feel more welcomed, or at least better able to control the dialogue, on other websites like Twitter.

Did you read the quote I was referring too? I even snipped it to the bit I was addressing.

Here is a post of mine from the canyon map sneak peak thread:

It's perfectly understandable that they want certain sites to have exclusives or they want to farm Twatter views, but what if they just made a forum post that said "Oh hai guise, click this link to check out some cool stuff coming to MWO soon: *link*". That way, the gaming sites still get to farm views and the devs still get to farm Twatter views. It would take all of approximately one minute, and that's a conservative estimate. It would also please the forumwarriors. It's a win-win. There is absolutely no rational reason as to why such could ever be a bad thing.

It might actually let them farm views better because a player-made OP would contain a picture and description of the stuff in the link, therefore making it less imperative to click the link.

We do not deserve anything in here. PGI has tated on occasion that the forums are the vocal minority and basically that they do not give very much about it because of that.

We are beta testing this game, yet they don't see fit to provide us with information? I think we do deserve something, because without us testers, their game balance would be even more screwed. I'm not saying that we are the only people who report bugs, but we are (most of us) trying to improve the game.

idk whats with the twitter exclusive nonsense. Id bet 33% of the playerbase doesnt screw around with something as inane as twitter.

I have never, not once, looked at a Facebook page. Neither have I ever looked at a "Tweet" unless said tweet was a screen-shot posted in a thread somewhere. And I do not plan to start now.

Hopefully a helpful forum person will make a thread with the relevant info for the rest of us.

Btw that pic is real, and I actually took that in mid-conversation (talking about black ops).

And no, I've never bought any apparel, underwear or otherwise, on Amazon. (or online- ever.)

So much for targeted ads.

View PostPurplefluffybunny, on 23 April 2013 - 06:17 AM, said:

This is untrue. They already have a third party add provider. This add provider can be found occupying advert space on many of the grey/black websites that provide links to free streaming movies, warez etc. as-well-as the more 'legitimate' sites out there. Nothing new here really.

Basically the add provider will read your cookies, see that the sites you visit fit a profile and then determine which ads to display to you in that ad space. Yes, people with different profiles will experience different ads. Facebook does the same type of profiling but in a far more intrusive manner. Just read their end user agreements ;) .

My speculation on why fb and twitter are used for accouncemnets: marketing

The forums are a closed system containing only those who already have signed up for the game (well forums at the very least).
Where as fb and twitter allow viewers to share the news and expose new people to the game quickly and effectively.

From a biz perspective it makes perfect sense to utilize tools and techniques that provide free advertising and exposure via word of mouth.

Edit to add: and by the time they're done with said tweet, one of the kind souls from the forum will have it posted on the forum before they even open up the forum in their web browser to make a forum posting.

No one here will definitely talk about it. On here we only discuss discussions on other sites, not the content of those discussions.

Exclusive announcement on Twitter is all fine and dandy. Debate whether the Twit is worth while all you want. The twit is 140 characters. They readers (twit-ee's?) will come to the official (if neglected) website to get the 141st character and beyond.

IMO the announcement will need to be nearly simul-posted so the Twitter followers have somewhere to go for more info.

"Would you like to know more?" ... did I just date myself with that reference?

It will be on the forums almost instantly... So what's the difference?

I honestly don't understand why people get so upset about stuff getting "revealed" on 3rd party sites... It makes it's way to the forums anyway. It's not like you aren't going to see it..

My only problem, and it is a small one, is that the "Official" forums should be the default location for announcements. The increased ability for discussion and the increased moderation of a forum (compared to twitter at least) should make the forums the premier location for information on the game.

I am not going to lose any sleep over it, it just rubs me the wrong way to see new info posted on other sites first.

BUT, if it is the Charger

Highly doubtfull. Not a single mech released yet had any hand-held weapon (and I support it, because it looks stupid). Charger has pistol-like laser (Small Laser, LOL!) in right hand.

Rumour has it that they are revealing the Marauder and other Unseen.

What?!?!?!?!?! You're hoping just as much as I am.

Don't be a tease... Don't be a tease... Don't be a tease... FFS if this is true you become my favorite mod (ok don't have one right now but you will be). I foresee an immediate explosion of playing if a Marauder becomes available, or just about any of the unseen - just because it will somehow feel "naughty" and/or get it in before HG flip flops and decides to cause problems and they get pulled back...

It has to be something like this (trying to convince myself), as even casual BT fans (or even robotech fans for that matter) would drool at the chance to play a marauder... dammmit, now I am far too curious...

If it isn't:

"Hey we totally fumbled game balance. We will completely rehash the system starting next month and have weekly balance updates"

I will be disappointed.

For me.

If it isn't:

"Hey, we are totally erasing the Forums and starting again and will commence having weekly Trash Post and QQ/Whine Thread Collection and disposal."

I will be disappointed.

I think we will both be disappointed dude. LOL ;)
