he already posted it here:

Getting old is better than the alternative, but not great.

Thanks for the good catch.

I used the tried and true cookie cutter Stalker builds, nothing new or exceptional here:

But... but... you guys are doing it all WRONG! I thought using an XL in an Awesome made it magically explode?

No, just certain Awesomes have problems running them. 8Q, 8R and 8V definitely would have problems depending on what you want to run, I have tried building them all in Smurfy's, don't think a decent one of those three could run an XL. I can see the 9M and PB getting XL use, not sure about an 8T.

2nd in Heavy Metals, bounced between these (both pretty similar). Using Cool Shot may have been enough to make the difference, but I couldn't bring myself to spend anything on consumables yet.

Where are individual results posted? This is too hard.

Modules: Target Info Gathering and Advanced Sensor Range.

GJ, have you tried advanced targeting? The V zoom in should help with those UAC a lot. I always use advanced targeting on my sniper builds and even AC20 builds. Even at 160m I have found my accuracy greatly improved. Granted, I'm a big noob so maybe its just me. :(

When the tournament began I started using my traditional Awesome-9M build - XL 380 + 3 Large Lasers + 14 SRM. 2 or 3 of my top 10 matches were in that build. As it went on however I was getting increasingly frustrated with the pitiful damage my SRMs were doing and began dropping in a whole assortment of all energy builds - 4 Large Laser 9M, 3 PPC 9M (1 or 2 ER), 5 Large Laser 8Q, 5 PPC 8Q (1 ER), 4 PPC 8Q (2 ER). Of these 2 of my 10 best games were in the 5 Large Laser 8Q, 1 was in the 4 PPC 8Q, and the rest were in the 4 Large Laser 9M.

I have to admit the missile nerf left me completely in the dark, as to what is the best Awesome for achieving high damage. I was constantly switching between builds, even went back to the 14 SRM 9M for a while only to abandon it again. It seems the 4 Large Laser 9M did best for me, but I have no idea what or why, or how. No assault mech was hurt by the missile nerf as much as the Awesome I think.

Huge props to all of the Assault competition winners that posted their mech loadouts and strategies to answer the OP.

In most games (as far as I've ever seen), most people would guard their secrets to the death for fear that they might give an opponent even the faintest glimmer of hope in beating them the next time around. Here, you guys are helping other pilots, and perhaps more importantly helping to make the MW:O community a better place. Very cool. You guys are class acts.

Congrats to all of the winners! And double-congrats to those that helped to advance this thread!

I used the following 3 mechs to get me a score of 8927 (42nd in the atlas ranking);

AS7-RS
This mech is more of a killer than a damage dealer, didn't use it much for the tournament.

AS7-D
Versatile build using the LRM to harass as I'm closing, the double UAC at all ranges to really start hurting the enemy and sealing the deal with 4xMLAS. Great damage and K/D ratio, also useful when ammo is gone.

AS7-D-DC
Standard D-DC brawler setup. Sneak in, wreak havoc. :D

Note: armour distribution is not accurate, although the total amount used is.

Only the 8R could be the most hurt Awesome with the popular 2LL, 4SRM6 build. The others can compensate, my current 8V does fine, I think it is my best Awesome design yet, just can't find the 8T's niche now.

I was (however, when I realized that it is conquest in wasting damage, I gave up) in top 15 AWS on this AWS-9M http://mwo.smurfy-ne...c903cdb133b1682

Yes, thank you to all the contributors!

Outside of who you drop with, there are only three things that matter to the player in this game: man, machine, and methodology. Until I can download "MWO" (right after Kung Fu) directly into my brain, or PGI starts posting videos of winning matches, people sharing their builds is phenomenally helpful.

At the least it clarifies that I'm running good builds, but am a lousy shot. :)

SRMs are still strong weapons - very strong on mechs that can boat them effectively. I run 3 SRM6s on my HGN-733C and 4 on my 733, and both of those mechs are averaging 500+ pts per game for me once you factor in CTDs and disconnects. Heck, I even pulled 500+ in a game last night with no mini-map, no friend or foe indicator and no targeting reticle... The one major difference I've seen with SRMs isn't really the overall damage you do so much as its in the critical damage potential. They just don't "pop" components as easily. Used to be that if you had 3-4 SRM6s on a mech and you hit a target with exposed internals, it was a more or less "guaranteed kill". Now it's not uncommon to have to hit a target like that twice - maybe even three times - to finish it off. Kind of annoying - but I'd guess that's why my overall damage still seems high... I'm having to maul stuff to death more where I'd be crit-killing it in the past prior to the change in missile damage. Not necessarily a "bad thing" in my opinion - and it certainly hasn't made me shy away from carrying SRMs on any of the builds I'd had them on before. I do think it'd be more noticeable though on mechs like the 9M or Pretty Baby where you have launch tube limitations. I'd wager the splat-AWS 8R still does just fine. I'd test mine myself - but I'm a little too addicted to jump jets to want to find out :)

Bumping this thread up in case people want to try these builds in the Spring Cleaning competition.

DIfferent focus: kills/assists, not just damage. I'm pretty geeked, it seems an excellent format.
