^^ Well, they can still CLAIM it, just like I claim to be the future emperor of Earth. But that in itself doesn`t mean it`s true, it takes a bit more than words, especially when the Status Quo and everybody that believes in it calls BS :o

and as far as any IS-centric team thinking that the Clans are not getting it together, we do not just "live" in the MW:O forums. We are out here and several of us have dedicated threads on our own forums for Clan-only business and privacy.

I agre, I don`t think that most of the IS pilots know just how seriously some of us take our association to the clans, some of us have been doing this for 20+ years.

I think that may even be our greatest advantage when we finally get the chance to strut our stuff, a very long tradition and with it a certain level of conviction. It`s one thign to be playing a game and having fun, but when your alter ego truly believes in what it`S doing, there`s just a certain intensity that that brings that is easily underestimated.

I don`t want to say that the IS pilots are "half hearted", god forbid... but I have the overall impression that clanners as a rule tend to stick together more...... Kind of like Horde vs Alliance in WoW, there`s somethign about being universally hated and thought of as a lump of unorganized rejects that makes the bond and the will to win even stronger. :P

I wasn't stating that us in the IS take clanners lightly, as I know at least my House doesn't. It just seemed to an outsider sort of amusing to watch the Clans scrabbling to realize that PGI will control them now, just like the IS did about a year ago.

I may personally despise some of the Clans (Smoke Jags) but I respect the Clans military accomplishments. I really respect the canon Ghost Bears for having the balls to get up and move into the IS, unlike the others who just kind of use it as a camping ground.

Niko, that actually brings up an interesting point....

IIRC there was a post from the Devs a few months ago that mentionerd something along the lines of some people possibly being forced to change their username, for examples sake Ulric Kerensky, or Phelan Kell, or Aidan Pryde. Do you know anything more tangible that you may be allowed to divulge?

Similarly to the Houses, the leadership of canonical factions will be considered "Non-Playable" for the time being until Community Warfare is integrated and the game design allows for all these questions to be directly reflected from the in-game setup. This means that no individual player may claim ownership with regards to an entire Clan or House. This also applies for any Merc Corps which have already existed in the lore.

The basic reasoning behind this is that there are many players who have an awareness of the BattleTech Lore and would conceivably want the opportunity to be Khan or House Leader of one of these factions, or to be Natasha Kerensky or Phelan Kell or any other character known from the lore. Additionally, we cannot control nor moderate the actions of individuals in setting up their own third-party fan sites: The question of whether clanwolf.com, clan-wolf.com, or clanwolf.de should be "the Official" Clan Wolf is thus moot; All have to be regarded as fan pages of equal footing and with equal opportunity to take part in their Clan in-game once Community Warfare/Clan Invasion are active and live.

For that reason, no players may claim to be representing "The One True", "The Real", "The Official" clan or house group any more than the next group.

Lest we forget.

The accepted standard within the Clan Community at this time, is that larger Clan based units assume the role of a Galaxy, while smaller Clan units take on the identity of an individual Cluster. This allows room for all units who represent a Clan to have the room to find a suitable "home" within their Clan, and not oust others who love the same clan just as much.

There is a gathering of all Clans, well hidden from the prying eyes of the Innner Sphere, where this standard is accepted, and we gather to build our strength before the invasion. This will become public soon, however we remain unseen until we can gather as many warriors as possible.

Any true follower of Kerensky would never be so unwise as to lay Claim to the name of a complete Clan .
Those that do are just spheroid imposters and need to be cast off the face of the universe in a fiery Trial of Annihilation.

The clans follow a simple ideology.

Might makes right.

If you can not bring it to the table, you will be found out.

Simple.

A name does not automatically grant you the skills rights or history of its fore bearer. Much like piloting a Heavy Metal Highlander will not allow you to grow ovaries if you do not already posses them, though I am sure many steiner pilots already have (man)boobs.

(for those that don't get the joke, Heavy Metal's pilot was Rhonda Snord.)

there a quite a number of people on both sides that will get wakeup calls if pgi ever did start enforcing their naming conventions.(honestly the unit i am in would be one of them, though we are less of a unit than an organizing force) I am just using a name that has served me well in more games than most people play in their lifetime. (i used to be quite prolific in 50-60 browser-based MMOGs. Dal10 of Arcan is shoot on sight in more than a few unless they have forgotten me by now. (i was the primary stratician for a rather dominant alliance in several of those games (in battle dawn if anyone has played it i had the 3rd largest army in the game (well that server) at 3.4k units. i got hit by nearly 200k units. (half the planet attacked me...) it was ridiculous.)))
the people laying claim to canon units and names are just too afraid to start their own story, preferring to ride on the stories of others. Any honor or shame, love or hate, triumph or defeat I accrue with this name reflects me. Not some character, but me. For better or for worse the people going to the clans should be able to understand that.

It's not like there isn't plenty of information on the Galaxies and Clusters for the Clans either, the Smoke Jaguars have touman listings if you know where to look, and even the Burrocks have some fan-collected data of snippets from TROs and Sourcebooks (I have some links, if you're a Burrock who needs them PM me.)

I don't think I've seen anyone claiming to represent "The Federated Commonwealth", or "The Capellan Confederation." I get that there's a different gaming connotation to "clan" (with a lower case "c") outside of 'Mechwarrior, and that people are more familiar with the name of the Clan than of some Cluster, but it is a problem, both in terms of the arrogance of the players and conflicting claims to command of the same faction. I haven't seen any First Princes, Archons, or Captain-Generals, but I've seen several Khans.

In game i saw a few Hanse Davion, Morgan Kerensky and other people.. And honestly i do not see any conflict among ,for example, the 3 different "Clan Wolf" units. Instead,it is a nice chance to play togheter and have fun as Clanners.
I am part of the "international" Clan Wolf; we do not claim to be "the official","the only one","the best" Clan Wolf, we are inspired to the greatest among the Clans (in the Lore) and i regard the other Wolf players as Brothers.

WIthout wantong to be disrespectful of anybody, the more farsighted clans have , too. IIRC the Russian Wolf and Jade Falcon for ex. have already laid claim to a few cluster and galaxy names, as is proper, and I know for a fact I`m not the only Clan Wolf Watch "member". I may be just a "lowly" point commander that occasionally gets a whole star at his disposal, but in the watch that`s all the command structure we really need as we generally don`t go out looking for combat in complete stars or binaries, much less entire clusters or the whole galaxy. :)

Wolves must adapt and this has been our strenght,so we are contacting other Wolf units to join the units in a "Clan Wolf Touman" which will play under the banner of Clan Wolf in CW when, one day,Clans will be playable.
We will claim for CW only one Galaxy or in a case a Cluster. We are Clan Wolf Alpha Galaxy, for example. Here you can see our progress. http://www.anook.com/topic/1475
Oh and actually PGI will not be able to moderate our external websites, so if we internally have two Khans they will not challenge us to a Trial of Possession for the leadership of the Clans :)

I could tell you mine, but then I would have to kill you. In your sleep. :(

Assassination is more than disonhorable. And far too easy. Why would you not meet us in a Circle of Equals? :)

iie, tis to head off and an attempt to prevent said arguments, as well as to prepare both old and new on PGI/IGP view on the naming convention expectations so there are no real surprises on that front. And this is the internet... :(
