Post a Match between 4 Assault Mechs vs 1 Assault 1 Heavy I medium and 1 light.

I am curious to see why the 4 assaults wont win or do maps force you to have one of each.

I'm sure they'll get right on it, El Presidente.

I am interested in this as well, its all nice and good to talk about theory but practice is another matter. Would be nice to have the maps have lets a say a 380 ton limit and if you fielded 4 mediums vs 4 heavys and one then you get extra c-bills experience or what not becuase you used less tonnage.

Also, can the mech wear party hats in the match? They should totally give the mechs party hats.

Seems like the team that isn't all assault mechs would have severely limited mobility. If the other team is worth anything, they should be able to tear the assaults only team up from range.

A real simple game plan, for instance... Keep a lock on the assaults using a light mech, while the rest of the team hangs back out of range of the assaults and just pummels them with missiles until they die.

Aside from the demanding tone, the OP has a good point. It'd be nice to see the theory of a balanced lance vs an assault lance put into practice. We all understand why the balanced lance should win, but I'd agree with the OP that seeing it in practice would be a fulfilling experience.

the mix lance should win through: modility, gurillia tatics, and speed. wittle down the 4 assults as they lumber to try and run after the aggressior with a scout hidden and a long range missle barrage while also bein pinged from the sides by the other member of the team....almost like hurdin cattle i would think

Balancing (matchmaking) by BV or tonnage, anyone?

As long as you have 2 experienced teams, I agree that a balanced lance should dominate. Also I'm pretty sure that a balance system is implemented so the only way to see a fight like that is in clan battle where there is a tonnage limit. With that being said the balanced should win again due to numbers 2 50 ton heavy's = 1 100 ton assault mech.

There are 100 reasons why the 4 Assault Mechs wouldn't win.

1) They don't focus fire.
2) They don't work as a team and leave their back exposed.
3) They don't protect their base and it gets capped. Really going to depend on the mission objectives. There are some objectives that players will want to achieve to receive xp according to the dev blogs.
4) The other mechs are better equipped.
5) They just a better shots.
6) They are all short range mechs while the opposing are long range.

There are many more, it isn't just about who is the heaviest wins. Sometimes speed and adapability is what wins the battles not direct tonnage and weapons.

Pure tonage based on lore would win.

I can not think of many lore based battles where the lower tonage didnt RUN FOREST RUN away.

Huh? If one battle consisted of the whole war, sure maybe however almost every novel is about overcoming difficult odds. The very first novel with Gray Death Legion taking out a company to a battalion of mechs with just a lance. As the Inner Sphere learned from the Clans tonnage meant nothing. Speed, superior weaponry and longer range ruled the battlefield as they almost decimated most of the Inner Sphere before they adapted. Most novels are about Lances overcoming Companies, Companies over comming a Battlation, a Battlation beating a Regiment. In most of the actual table top Battletech games I played we were often under tonnage and outmatched and still would win if you knew how to adapt, use the terrain to your advantage, focused fire, ambushed stray mechs.

You'll have to site me some examples of lore where pure tonnage won out though.

Tactics lads, tactics. Given an even playing field, and all variables equal, yes the assault lance would decimate the mixed lance. However, history (both canon fiction and real life) is repleat with instances of smaller, less powerful forces defeating larger ones.
Rommel in North Africa is a perfect example. At no point did he possess a larger force then the British. but he effectively used what he did have to beat a superior force over and over again. Granted, in the end he was crushed but that was more due to poor logistical support (aka no convoy ops in the Med, woeful material production by the Germans, multiple fronts, blah, blah, blah).

" 2 50 ton heavy's = 1 100 ton assault mech."

Keep them on their toes don't directly engage, kite them, go for the base.

And a lack of air support... his supply lines were repeatedly decimated by air raids, but he did well despite that. And his army was actually officially defeated after he was recalled back to Germany and he had to leave the command to others..

Alright, just for arguement's sake...all 3025 tech (I'm OG yo)

For the OP:
4 stock Victors vs. 1 Atlas, 1 Warhammer, 1 Trebuchet, 1 Panther (or Valk, Panther is pretty slow, same speed as the Vic's but still).

For the above post:
One Atlas -7D v. 2 Trebuchet's (or Crabs, can't remember how many rounds the Treb's carry)

4 Assaults won't win if their tactics suck.

This mentality is rampant in World of Tanks, where people in heavy-tanks don't understand the role of light/medium-tanks (or their own). I don't know how many times I've been able to outflank and outmanouver heavies while piloting a tank that is vastly inferior on paper.

As Dreden Aelnir said: Tactics, lads. Tactics. The lights will win if they use the right tactics, the lights will loose if they attempt a straight-up fight.

How about this one Atlas vs 12 Stingers/Wasps. Let's see if its true. They say the Atlas will walk away and not one Stinger/Wasp will operational
