Just a quick thought I've had, how about a supply raid game mode? One side is defending a base, or supply dump or whatever, while the other side has to get in and make off with whatever they can carry. Ammunition, building supplies, whatever. For added fluffiness, only 'mechs with hands would be able to actually make the grab.

Well I'd be all for actuall missions. Like lance vs Lance Escort, where the lighter lance can harass a convoy, while the heavier defenders have to stay with it for protection.

Unfortunately, the world outside scenario paintball and Unreal Tournament has a big problem with asymmetric scenarios.

This is a good idea. Some of us made this suggestion early on, particularly with respects to CW. The good news is that Bryan mentions this, or something similar, as being very much on the cards. I am looking forwards to what materialises.

I see it more as a salvage mission. probably using an Assault with a Salvage Module (to be introduced). The idea would be some sort of fireable grappling hooks that would attach to what ever it is that is being salvaged; then one or maybe even two Assaults would need to drag the salvage (maybe the remains of a Mech or a piece of a Radar installation) to a pre-determined LZ ready for a dropship to pick it up.

One of the mission objectives could be to secure the LZ and hold it until the dropship arrives. An alternative could be to meet up with a convoy where the salvage would be loaded onto the transporter; you would then provide escort out of the danger zone.

Could be done with the current cap squares.

You would just need to put several of them in a base, then the attacking team would need to get in there and cap (to pick up).

You may want to limit a single mech to only capture a single base. or maybe two, but if a single mech can capture all bases, then I think it would be too easy for a quick light mech with ECM to get in and cap.

Good idea, I believe CW if nothing else should bring some of these asymmetrical "guard duty" kind of scenarios along.

I'd love to see full bases (replete with turrets) with tonnage weight limited versus a less limited higher tonnage assault force.

Wouldn't allow for dynamic positioning of the flag resources.

It really depends on how they are set up. If you've got one Mobile HQ truck and it's got no armor, low hp, travels slowly on a predetermined path that your team can't alter so the enemy LRM boats or jump snipers can take it out in a single volley or two that's really not going to be fun. For either side.

Now if someone has the option or spawning in that armored truck. Can move it around and drop air and arty strikes using the map as well as defend himself if need be with a couple weapons. Now we are talking about a game mode. Obviously you don't want to be rolling that thing into a fight, but being able to scare light harassers or add damage instead of just taking it would be good. should be set sorta like assault except two or three bases the Mobil HQ truck can cap for a win or if it goes for 15 minutes without being destroyed it's a win.

I'm always a sucker for additional game modes, I would enjoy a wider variety.

Not sure if any of you every played WOW, but in Sithilus, they have these nodes, which a player picks up, and they get a flag over their head and then they have to run back to camp.

An enemy player can kill them and take the node. Sort of like capture the flag, but there are lots of nodes all over the map.

I could sort of see this a supply raid.

The current Conquest points in the middle are spawn points, which players need to move out to to pick up the supplies, and then carry back to their drop ship (main base). A single capture carries a single supply count. If the mech gets destroyed while carrying the package (supply) then it gets destroyed as well.

A mech gets a flag (or banner) placed on their shoulder indicating they are carrying a supply, sort of like the ball carrier. and you can have as many carriers as you want. Move in force or one at a time with several guarding the spawn spot.

But your base is a stock pile of supplies, the enemy can capture your drop ship and take 50% of the gathered supplies (again by capping) These mechs again get a flag - though with a different designation. So guarding your base is very important.

Tactics:
  • Guard Base
  • Capture forward supply spawn points and return back with supply
  • protect supply runners
  • Kill enemy supply runners
Could easily be implemented with Current Conquest Capture points, only new feature would be flag and indicators to show mech carrying supply.

Another way to look at it
  • two Drop ships (home caps)
  • three Supply drops (middle caps)
    • Need to pick up supplies and return them to base cap
    • Need to stop enemy from doing same.
  • Can raid enemy supply drop to get a larger supply pickup and steal their supplies.

Future when a mech dropped a supply possibly allow another mech to pick it up and return it (within a short time period before despawning).
