random drop except two of the newer maps are more common. Which is a mixed blessing.

I find myself only looking at the most recent threads instead of actually browsing now... I don't come to the forums for anything specific, just to browse until I find a thread that amuses me.

The problem with the new forum structure is that it risks to be geared towards preventing negative feedback about game mechanics and decisions that dont fit into specific forum sections. For example, where would you discuss 3rd person view if it mattered to you, or consumables for that matter?

This is called "head up your own arse" syndrome and I hope that they reinstate some kind of general discussion/other forum section as it is entirely reasonable that people have and are able to easily communicate a viewpoint on similar items to the examples above be it positive or negative.

Sooner or later someone will create a website called mwoforums.com or whatever, premise being discuss whatever you want without getting k-towned.

You could argue "why not have that here", but we did, and it turned into a festering sore where people mostly visited for the drama.

Genital Discussion is gone. Bury it, cry a little, look at the stars.

Yes, because the Devs, who seldom bother to pay attention to their player base on their OWN Foprums are really going to give two drizzly sh*ts what is said on some unofficial one.

Or do what beta testers are *supposed to do* and offer feedback.

I think it is better. We just need a "Voice Yourself" area in general discussion perhaps?

All PGI wants is (DA MONEY)and they don't want any feedback from the new or old communities there web rating is like -50 on liking the game or the direction it is going that's why they have split the forums up so much there afraid of there player base and all the positive or negative feedback. I personally think PGI is just milking out the MechWarrior community till they quit paying then they will dump the servers and the players and fans. Im sorry but the game just plain sucks its to repetitive and boring and there is no chat lobby's or private matches so best advise just move on to a funner game.

Finally, a GOOD poll on the topic. Thanks Bishop.

First, I think a lot of the vitriol over the past two days came from two camps.

1. Change is scary: It's like the changes between XP and Win 7 (or more like Win 7 to Win 8), people rage, complain, cry... but eventually settle in and realize that it's actually better. Things are hard to find, at first, but after a week of usage you know exactly what is where.

2. Those who really didn't have anything to say, now don't have a place to say it. The "Gems" that were in GD were few and far between. Usually, it was (at its best) posters who had a legitimate question but were too lazy to look for the answer and (at its worst) mouthbreathing nerdragers mashing the keyboard in frustration, frequently without the slighest idea of what they were talking about (my ambrosia).

It may seem like it, but there aren't fewer users on the forum. At the point of this writing, there are 358 registered users on the whole forum, which was about the same as it would be at 7 AM my local time, before the change. The difference, now, is that 197 of them aren't sitting in GD waiting to pounce on whatever hotbutton topic to flame back and forth in a tryhard circlejerk. Instead those users are out actually READING the forum, learning about what exactly it is they planned on discussing.

With the change, there has been some admittedly draconian moderation, and it was more than warranted. With it came the realization that "I'm not going to take the effort to vomit rage where ever I like for it to only get sent to K Town, and maybe 5 people read it before it happens, that's not going to help my Epeen at all."

As the member of the Post Lerian Jihad who has been tasked with making this forum better, I haven't had to troll much because a lot of the polls haven't been that terribad, well, not terribad enough to make me add an acceptable level of snark. Poll topics are better, the posting is better, people are thinking before they're typing.

At the end of the day, isn't that just better for everyone?

There is still discontent, it may seem like it's being squashed, but it really isn't, people are just getting more savvy about it now than "PGI ATE MY BABY!". Those who were most likely to create the "PGI LIED, ELECTRONS DIED" are leaving the forum because they can't just hop on and throw out their pointless attacks out of a narcisistic need to see their petty little rant go 7 pages.

I'm still on my first cup of coffee here, so I'm going to continue this later...

Pick up a ladder or something after that coffee and use it to get right over yourself.

It's a hassle to peruse the forums. I don't think anyone can accuse me of not putting forth effort to debate my positions on things. I very rarely straight up troll.

But now it just feels like way too much effort.

This stuff is such a joke. Did you guys forget to grow up?

I'm fine with people not liking trolling, or rage-filled posts and such. But really? Creating your own group, posting in weird text formats half the time, and trying to act like you are above everyone else?

I've never seen so many grown men act like highschoolers. It's especially frustrating that some of the people doing it at one point or another didn't act that way.

Between you guys, the rage-spewers and the dumb moves from the dev team I am really losing the small modicum of hope I had left for this game.

My forum viewing will take a serious nosedive with this change, I liked GD as a consolidated melting pot of ideas/announcements. I don't have time to check 20 subforums, oh well guess I'll get more work done at work, so this is a good move for me.

I hate getting done more at work. I had to make a second cup of coffee already. :D

No, I don't CARE to get the bullcrap that happens on these forums. I would like to use them to get serious game fixing things done. But EVERYONE devs, PLJ, WKDF, Mouthbreathers etc. are making it impossible due to what is seemingly a prolific loss of logic and common sense thinking.

By that reasoning, you should be ecstatic that GD is gone. It was just noise... that's ALL that it was.

You cannot have a game forum without general discussion, end of story.

It's the moderators, volunteer moderators and Community Manager's job to police it and make sure things are getting sent up to the devs if it is important.

There are at least 4 Mods and 1 Community Manager getting PAID to do this. And they failed at it.

Throw in PGI's inability to communicate properly (HEY GUYS BIG ANNOUNCEMENT, POSTPONED IT, OH ITS A SCREENSHOT OF SOMETHING YOU'VE SEEN ALREADY)....and it just starts to boggle the mind how they got this game off the ground.

Nope. It's one of those perspective things- you're so busy being a grown-up that you forgot the difference between a grown-up and an adult, which then confused you into thinking we were the ones lagging behind when it was you all along.

But only in the appropriate section out of the 450 available. :D

It's like working government contracts...always "no, that's not right" but just try and get an answer to "okay, so what is?"

Why? Where is that written? Oh, just because others have it? There was a time when everyone used a "Chamber pot" and dumped their waste out the window and onto the street too. Huzzah plumbing.

A dozen people on a 9-5 schedule to police several thousand. If this was the numbers of your local law enforcement, you'd demand martial law as crime would be rampant, because they'd be overwhelmed.

Do you swallow that crap before you spit it back out?

I have a decent job, a wife, 2 kids, a house...I'm well aware of what it's like to be an adult for better and worse.

I just wish people would step away from one side or the other and really start rationally looking at what is going on here.

Going nuclear and closing down the general discussion forums is NOT good for this game. If they were unhappy with the content, start moderating it and maybe have your big wigs come and communicate directly with some forums to alleviate the rage.

I am telling you right now. I could moderate the general discussion forums by myself from my job here. It is really just not that difficult.

If I was getting paid to do it full time? CAKE.

Stop acting like it's rocket science. If you have a set of guidelines and stick to them, it's not a hard job.
