I've noticed recently that the external weapon model on some mechs visually changes when you put new weapons on them. Most notably on the Highlander, the Jaeger, and the Catapult. Has anyone noticed any other mechs that this happens on? Also is there any official word from PGI with more details about their plans for this feature?

It's a small change, but it is very very cool. It's especially cool to be able to look at a Jaeger and know exactly what type of build that pilot is running based on its visual look.

Personally, I can't wait for my Centurion's UAC/5 right arm to change from a boring looking cannon to a proper UAC/5 multi-barrel look.

They're supposed to be going over all the mechs to apply this. Currently only the Highlander is perfectly accurate in its visual representation.

The Jager missile points don't change the number of tubes visible with the missiles equipped. They also don't display multiple energy hardpoints or the difference between PPC / Laser.

I would say the Awesome is the one most in need of this change as it is one of the mechs with the most visible weapons on it. It looks silly to have those big PPC energy tubes only to shoot a medium laser out of them.

Can you think of a awesome with tiny stubby arms? I hope they do make them reflect what they have, would look a short buff guy with very tiny fore arms and hands. Maybe with flamers they would have no fore arms at all.

It wouldn't have tiny arms. Just like the Highlander, it has a fair portion of the arm as the "housing" for whatever weapon you put in there. Obviously that laser rectangle isn't as imposing as the PPC tube but it's not bad.

In one of the ask the devs they said they wanted to do this to all mech eventually. I'd guess it's low priority for existing mechs though, but part of designing any new ones. The raven is an example of another mech with a (minor) modification. If you only have one weapon in the arm, one of the guns disappears (Though if you take both the weapons out, there is still one gun showing on the right hand). The hunchback 4sp does something similar on its hands. There are probably a couple other small changes like that on other mechs.

The trebuchet does this with it's arm weapons. But it's only the amount of energy weapons per arm not the type.

The YLW used to have this for its ballistic arm, but they seem to have removed the feature for some reason.

Also the Stalker has a minor change where unused energy hardpoints would put a gray texture over the "lens." It looked really bad though, no where near the same level as the Highlander.

Spider 5V has it for its two torso energy points.

For the guy talking about the Awesome with stubby arms... I thought of this, and lol'ed:
