I was wondering, how many weapon groups do most of you use?

Most of my mech end up having two or three. Usually one for direct fire arm mounted weapons, one for direct fire torso mounted weapons, one for lock-on weapons. But I recently started using 4 or 5 groups on some of my mechs and I find myself having a tons more fun.

Does anyone fire each weapon independently?

I will say that I run into issues where I might not be firing weapons as fast as I could because of this... but that just helps with heat management more.

It depends.

If, for whatever reason, I only have 1 weapon type, I always have one group for alpha striking and one for chain firing, even if I never end up using it.

Sometimes if I have... say... 2 mlas in my arms, 2 mlas in my ct, and lrms, I have the arm lasers mapped to one mouse button (group), and the torso lasers mapped to the other (and a different group). The LRMs I trigger manually (via the 3 button on the keyboard). I wasn't all that fond of the setup but it wasn't TOO bad.

Been working on a setup for one group for arms only and one for either alpha strike or torso only. Haven't desided yet which would be better.

Three for me. I can handle 4 but I don't like to. I could get a better mouse, but I'm afraid it would only make it worse.

I already have a problem with hitting t instead of r and sending a message like this, "wwwwwwaaaaddddwwwwssss"

I wish i had a real neural helmet.

I mainly use 2 groups. One for the arms and one for the torso. I like to keep it simple.

2 to 4, as it depends on the mech. Sometimes 5, almost never 6 unless I use one group for an Alpha. I need multi-checkbox action please :(

Props to that.

I hate needing more than 3 and my mouse only holds 4.

Reliably using 6 is pretty impressive.

How do you guys manage with those mice? A three button mouse I could see but four or more would get awkward, even with some on the side or using the mouse wheel.

I guess I could see a trackball setup working out, but I could also see that ending in tendonitis.

Usually 4, some times 5 depending on how many weapon types/ranges.
Only one has 6 on it, that's my 4 LL K2. Alpha, chain, top, bottom, left, right. Really nice for the buildings on RC and frozen.

I typically run 4, L/R mouse for L/R arm, thumb button for torso direct fire, wheel click for (S)SRMs.

Lowest I go is 2, highest is 5 for LRMs. Cents are weird but whatever.

2 or 3, rareley more. Depends on the loadout though. Grouping different range and different weapon tpyse together rareley works for me.
Since I got only 2 mouse buttons (ok, 3 but I like the zoom to be the middle mouse button), the 3rd weapon group usually contains guided weapons

I have even problems to run my Atlas properly with 6 Weapon Groups.
Ballistic _ TIC 1
Secondary Energy (or SRM) _ TIC 2
Primary Right Arm Energy Weapons TIC 3
Primary Left Arm Energy Weapons TIC 4

TIC 5 and TIC 6 Depends on Layout:
When TIC 2 is allready in use and i have LRMs and SRMs i use TIC 5 for LRMS and TIC 6 for SRMs
When TIC 2 is empty an i have SRM i placed them at this TIC, and LRMs on TIC 6, and Alpha Strike of the primary armament (PPC + Gauss, or PPC only) at TIC 5

I'm so used to these loadout that i have really problems with a Mech that has only 3 or 4 weapons. Like the Flame with 4 MLAS and a Single Gauss....

Mostly:
Gauss TIC 1
4 MLAS - Chain fire TIC 2
2 MLAS Right TIC 3
2 MLAS Left TIC 4
4 MLAS TIC 6

HM just realized that i have to change the TIC from 4 to 5 and from 5 to 4....

Well, I have a razer naga.

So, groups 1 and 2 are R/L mouse, simple.

Groups 4, 5, and 6 are the middle row of buttons at my thumb, and thus quite simple.

Group 3 is the least used, as to press 3 on the naga's thumbpad is the most awkward of the buttons I have.

I would say I can "reliably" use 4 groups.

I have mechs that have 5 weapons groups for one type of weapon (hello -4P)

I almost always end up with 5 weapon groups, 6+ is quite possible for me with my mouse. I think I have two mechs with 6-7 firing groups.
