I have a Stalker with a standard engine, lots of lasers, and AMS.

Should I keep my AMS Ammo in my centre torso (because if my centre torso goes it's ''game over'' anyway) or should I keep it in my leg, and risk losing a leg due to an Ammo explosion?

(Unfortunately I don't have room for CASE.)

Thanks for your advice.

Generally the best idea. Even if you're open CT you can ride structure for a little while, and the stalker head is surprisingly hard to hit properly (although not impossible).

Always in the head on all mechs, unless you need that slot for an energy weapon. I see people put AC-20 ammo in the head which is not logical. It just makes the remaining ammo in the rest of the body last longer and increases the ammo explosion threat. AMS and MG ammo lasts longer than any other weapon system. Put both in the head.

A better question is why use AMS now? LRM's do horrible damage now, and AMS does almost nothing for streaks/srms.

NEVER put AMS ammo in Catapult's head.

I have seen my SSRMs shot down by AMS. Could be a weird coincidence.

I contend that a head explosion is still a low probability event. It requires taking damage to the head that doesn't also destroy the head completely. Not going to happen with the current weak state of missiles and LBX. The chance of a crit is less than one, the chance of a critted ammo bin exploding is less than one. Taken together the head is still a safe place. Also if that Cat is carrying missiles the head is still the best place for the AMS since you want a faster ammo draw down in the other body segments.

In the current Meta if your hit in the head it'll be by 1 or more PPC shots so your more likely to die from that than ammo cooking off.

AMS ammo does 24 damage if exploding with full ammo, and you'll probably never have a full stack explode. Even then, it has a 10% chance once critically destroyed (or just destroyed via component destruction) to deal that damage to you. So if anyone is seriously attempting to crit you out, they'll rarely see a return on that effort and be extremely disappointed if they do get it.

Since damage is now more effective/realistic at getting ammo explosions, you just want to make sure you're not stuffing ammo in a high priority component or body part you're planning to use via damage mitigation--like a Hunchback's hunch, or a Centurion's left arm. This makes the head+legs great for stuffing ammo--avoid leg stuffing if you're a fast mover! Some mechs are practically built for housing it in their arms. The STK does this well since it has 10% damage reduction on its arms provided you keep the flaps closed.

I totally agree with this statement. Ams is just a waste of tonnage and space because of 2 reasons I believe. 1 LRMS r weak now. 2 unless u have buddies u play with in group and all have ams and stay close they really r not that good anyway.

I'll vote for:
In your inventory, along with your AMS.

Certainly not anywhere on your mech at this time.

Do not store AMS where you keep your missile.

In the current meta BAP is more useful for the same tonnage and crits than AMS+1ton ammo as it allows you to acquire targets at longer ranges. Not hugely beneficial, but IMO more than AMS at present.

Cockpit. I have survived an AMS ammo explosion before in the cockpit (Logic dictates that 750 rounds of AMS ammo exploding in the head should have been a kill, but it was not). I would not be able to say the same for any other ammo.

I recently had a Head Explosion due to Overheating.
(Death by Overheating - Head Component destroyed)

Does putting the ammo in the head pose any kind of risk due to overheating?

I usually put my Ammo in legs first, then Head, then CT. Some ppl argue that Arms are better than CT.
