Welcome to PPC warrior online. Two battles in a row where both teams were at a stand off of 1000m shooting nothing but ppc's at each other. Finally one light mech dared to close in and was immediately obliterated by a quad ppc Stalker in one hit.

This is fun.

1) Load max PPCs
2) Set mouse DPI to ~500
3) Move to hill and press Z twice
4) Left click bad guys
5) ???
6) There's no end game and you have the best setup, so more ???

PPCs are hot and require aiming skills.

Much rather see this than SSRMs, LRMs, or small lasers being boated

I actually would really like a damage system that encouraged use of different groups
(like, lasers increase ballistic dmg, etc)

It would be good if we had armor types that had DR (damage reduction) vs different types of weapons.

So:

Standard: -25% damage vs ballistics
Ferro-Fibrous: -25% damage vs energy
Reactive: -25% damage vs missiles

Paper, scissors, rocks - a classic system.

Thus, at the moment with all the PPCs around you could load up on Ferro and have extra protection.

PPCs aren't that hot anymore. They're as heat efficient as Medium lasers for ***** sake, except PPCs don't spread damage, have much higher range...

Weapon balance is fine.
Boating is the problem.
Hardpoints need sizes.

I remember when;

Small lasers were OP and boated
Medium lasers were OP and boated
Medium Pulse lasers were OP and boated
Gauss Rifles were OP and boated
SSRM's were OP and boated
LRM's were OP and boated
SRM's were OP and boated
Teamwork was OP
Voice Comm's was OP
Sync dropping was OP
and PPC's weren't used.

Now everything is getting closer to where it should be. Looking back from when I first started testing, we've come along way. I have battlemechs loaded out every possible way and I am effective in everything I pilot.

You know, come to think of it...players are the problem. See, I had taken a month long break. My first break in MWO, ever. I rejoined a game in my 4x4 stalker (4ppc 4ssrm2) as it's one of my favorites. I hammered 3 different people over a 2 minute span. They all had a few things in common; They all complained PPC's were OP when they died, they were all standing out in the open (middle of water on forest colony) and they all died in roughly the exact same location. Yes, blame the PPC's. It's easier than blaming yourself for making mistakes.

I'll be confident with the developers, as always on tweaking the numbers. They've already mentioned they're looking into it. What more is there to discuss?

Heat efficient, yes, but if you account for heat and weight, the medium laser is still much more efficient. Of course, no mech can carry the carry the weight of 6 PPCs in medium lasers...

Pando, you are correct about flavor of the day part but I believe PPC have become OP because of a series of changes.

1. Buff they were given due to other game mechanics being broken; faster speed and lower heat
2. Introduction of highlander. An Assault with JJ can pop snipe and boat...the staulker was never gonna create the game ruining meta we have now.
3. HSR

To fix, they need to slow speed of projectile of PPC back down. That way, poptarts have a very hard time to shoot.
The PPC recycles as fast as a small laser...this is wrong. PPC should recycle at least as slow as LL. Therefore, change to 4 seconds (from 3). I do not undersatnd why they ignore PPC being insta-fire versus other energy taking up to 1 second to discharge.

On the boating issue, make a significant heat penalty to having more than 2-3 of a weapon type on the chasis.

It's really becoming a problem for a lot of people, it seems. I think something needs to be done about the weapon itself, not convergence.

too true good sir, cover cover cover. although i must also say, tht the meta is boring, since a brawlers ability to punish a sniper up close had been nerfed. it is fun trying to advance on snipers using cover and teamwork.

Could this possibly an indirect effect of doubling armours?

This sounds right. I think even a small increase in heat generation would quickly drop the popularity. Projectile speed won't make much of a difference I think as a gauss (with a much slower projectile) is still pretty easy to hit with at long range. Better to remove the ability to use zoom with jumping and see what that does for the poptart trend.

And no its not. Armor was double for a long time before PPC's became popular.

I was going to post pretty much the same thing. Well said.

Pointing out this fact will not stop posts like this though, because when people get killed they like to blame the weapon if possible.

F.Y.I. PPC boats are very vulnerable to medium mechs because boats have trouble with weapon convergence on a close range moving target, and have two alpha strikes max before heat is a factor. This does not mean a single medium mech can go rambo inside enemy lines, but still, it's a counter.

Actually there is a type of armor that negates energy weapons by 50%

Also the problem is much more than PPC's I am afraid. It is merely a symptom, and not the cause.
