The ambient differences on the maps are not that great:

Alpine Peaks: -35°, 0,9 Gravity
Caustic Valley: 85°, 1,2 Gravity
Forest Colony: 35°, 0,8 Gravity <-- To hot, should be around 20° to 25°
Forest Colony Snow: -2°, 0,8 Gravity
Frozen City: -85°, 0,9 Gravity
Frozen City Night: -85°, 0,9 Gravity <-- Its night! Should be around -95° to -100°
River City: 26°, 1 Gravity
River City Night: 26°, 1 Gravity <-- Its night! Should be around 10°
Tourmaline Desert: 97°, 1 Gravity <-- Should be much hotter then Caustic, around 110°

The gravity makes not that much difference, maybe it should have greater differences too.

as far as i know, gravity is just a number and has no meaning due to current engine limitations

Thats sad.
Speedadjusting when going up-/downhill is as needed as gravity influence on jumps ....
