I wouldn't mind seeing a version of Alpine with white out blizzard conditions or a version of Tourmaline with a massive dust storm. They both are large interesting maps with quite a few maneuvering options. Currently, however, typical matches follow a fairly linear course and involve a lot of long range slug fests. Adverse weather conditions coupled with the more scaled back usefulness of current thermal could make for some pretty interesting bouts. Recon would really shine here as scouts would need to do some legwork to figure out what the OpFor is up to. Anyway it was a thought I had that might make fore some interesting matches and I figured I would share.

EDIT>> I added an additional polling option for dynamic weather after Keifomofutu's suggestion.

i am always a fan of simple variations that add more diversity to gameplay. night levels would be nice too (real night levels, not like frozen city night which has better visability than the day version)

Sweet baby jesus no, we don't need twice as much alpine/tourmaline.

Actually... a poor visibility version of these maps would be an unobtrusive counter to the prevalence of extreme range sniping on these maps, allowing the teams to close in well.... get closer, i.e "brawling range".

Alpine could use a wicked blizzard and Tourmaline could use a good ol' fashion crystal dust storm... :P

If they do that, they should just modify the current maps rather than adding whole new versions...

And also, people would find a way to cheat by messing with their graphics settings one way or another...

Meh, some very few would. Most players wouldn't, and it would make the game better for them.

On another note, I'm still waiting for Caustic Night. Thermal vision? no. Normal vision? Not great.

I don't think we really need to worry too much about this. Since those are the newest maps, I expect that they are weighted more heavily in the rotation in order to gather more statistical data. It speeds up the process of finding map glitches.

Remember how long it took to find all of the places you could get stuck on River City? If it had been more common in the rotation, it would have pissed off a bunch of people certainly, but it would also have been fixed more quickly.

I would expect that once the new Canyon map is in, Alpine will stop being as common. With the map after that, Tourmaline will likely join the normal rotation frequency, with Canyon and the newer map being more frequent.

With regard to simple visibility alterations to the maps, I don't think it would require as much testing since the physical terrain would be identical. That being said, I would think that they would wait until they are satisfied with the original maps before they do any variants. Still, I wouldn't mind seeing them at some point. Use the Frozen City blizzard on Alpine, and maybe a modification of the haze on River City for Tourmaline.

Huge map with poor visibility and ECM as it is = base camping, because no way you will find enemy team in 15 minutes unless you agree with them to meet in selected coordinates.

If the other team always camps the base, then the rational thing to do is head for the enemy base at the start of the match, as that will guarantee a gigantic brawl. The blinding obviousness of this fact is why it's fairly rare for an entire team to stay in the base in the current maps, not to mention the difficulty of getting pickup groups to coordinate in any way shape or form.

I get that newer maps are weighted to come up more often, but in Alpine's case it's kind of obnoxious. I get it half again more than the next most common map (I checked my stats).

How about a version of alpine that is so poorly visible that it's just frozen city? Lets just not have alpine at all.

Voted Yes.

My 2c: you can also add small tornados on Tourmaline, here and there, which can be wondering around the map at random. If you are light, you can try to use them as cover.

I dunno maybe because of the topology and it's effect on play style?

By this logic, I guess PGI doesn't have to make any more snow, desert, coastal or harbour inlet maps...

If those maps are infinite, limbo-like plains where gameplay is stilted and terrible I hope they stop making maps entirely. Alpine is the worst map I've ever seen. It interacts so horrifically badly with the games objectives and combat systems that it somehow plays even worse than it looks (and it looks like something I could make in cry engine in 10 minutes).

If the rest of their maps are like alpine they should save the quarter million dollar lie and just stop coming out with maps.

What if rather than it being a separate mode it could be a random weather effect on the map that changes as the match progresses. Make it cycle fairly frequently but not so much you would just wait for the weather to change so you could brawl.

Would make both alpine and tourmaline much more dynamic.

Actually I like this even better than the original idea. Dynamic weather could really make for some great shifting tactical situations.

People complained endlessly about the lack of long-range visibility for months and months and now that we got two maps that addressed that concern, suddenly people want more maps with muddy visibility?

There really is no way to please this player base.

P.S. I'd prefer more clear-version maps before we add more occluded-versions.
