You say that like it's a bad thing.

...pilots have been scrawling kill counts on their hulls since they invented the tally mark.
I think it's totally congruous with the game meta.

That said, we've got all those monitors in our mechs that display absolutely nothing right now. That would be right at home on one of those.

Why? Because my stupid *** team mates stayed behind for me to rip their armor of, and not only place the killing shot, but actually move in in front of me, preventing me from shoting, just to get the kill.
One of them, piloting an atlas actually (I piloted a phract) did this 3 times, getting 3 kills and 120dmg.
So why do I write this? Well, K/D in this game is actually pretty useless. One could use total dmg done vs received, but even that will not directly reflect skills, as pinpoint dmg with gauss or what ever can get you kills pretty fast, but with less damage per kill than an LRM60 boat with 2000 missiles.
In short, none of these numbers actually say much about skills.

BUT
The reasons why some have such good kill death ratios are very bad
1 Sacrificing other team members while you hold back, never spotting for the team.
2 Abusing every over powered racket & loophole in the game, until closed
3 Living in Canada and getting the drop on everyone with a bad lag
4 Disconnecting at point of death or at start (if a man down) to preserve the KD ratio
5 Running only in premade teams where there is a much lower newb pairing risk, you can enjoy Voice Commination advantages, & you can drop with a custom lance made to complement each other.
6 Never running a medium mech and hardly ever seen outside an Assault mech.

This game is literally nothing more than an epeen contest.

People with garbage K/D tend to be garbage players.
People that spend their time worrying about K/D ratios tend to be shit team mates that only worry about their own K/D..... aka garbage players.

People who have good K/D's tend to be people who are good at killing other mechs...
Which is the best type of person to have on your team.
If you are bad at killing mechs, then you are a bad teammate.
Because the point of this game is to kill mechs.

If you have a bad K/D, it means you die more often than you kill mechs.
It means you are a bad player. Good players don't have negative K/D's, ever.
Even when playing "support roles", in those cases then you should be dying less... So the end result would STILL be a positive K/D. You might have less kills per game than a high alpha striking mech, but you should still being dying less than you are killing.

-If you want to achieve any sense of immersion, KDR within the game's world cannot exist. Cloning/respawn/regeneration/raising pilots from the dead isn't a thing in MWO. Forums? Suuuure. Online profile? Suureeee. In-game? Nope.
Kill Counter: Yup
-This has been done by many pilots, and would be pretty cool. But this would require a dynamic cockpit item model that would have to change when you got a kill. I can see lots of bugs here, and a possibility that it will never even happen.

Either way; "Time piloted this mech" would be a good stat to have.
Even better: "Missions successful" for all variants of that chassis. That way people are encouraged to help win the game and pilot their favorite mech the best they can.
