Capturing Base To Win In Assault

My opinion: if you don't like it, DEFEND YOUR BASE
That being said, I think a "free for all" TDM or King of the Hill game mode might also be in order.

Holy crap, king of the Hill! of course! they should definitely add king of the hill as the next game mode! and as for base caps, I agree with ya Clydewinder. It forces teams to have to strategies between killing and defending, and without it, a light mech (if he were the last one alive) could just run off and shut down and force the rest of the 'would be' wining team into a draw.

Profound, though. I wonder if anyone ever suggested defending the base before? I'll do a search.

Sarcasm is the crutch of a feeble mind... point taken. Now convince the OP.

I guess most comedians have feeble minds, then. It's an epidemic!
Still, I didn't notice at first that the OP only had 5 posts. I wouldn't have been rude if I had seen that before. Sorry about that OP, but unless you're creating a poll to try to quantify opinions on a topic, check to see if there's an existing thread that is suitable for your ideas first, and if your ideas are already adequately represented in someone else's post, just hit the "like" button in a post that represents your ideas, otherwise the forums just get bloated with people saying the same thing over and over (which is inevitable, to some degree, and I'm sure I contribute plenty to forum bloat myself, but restraint is appreciated!)

Every two or three days there's a thread about capping in assault, pro or con, doesn't matter.

No prob LOL, just getting it off my chest. I had played a few games in a row where the "anti-cap contingent" got very hostile and profane in the chat because the game had ended with base capture. " GET OFF THE F-----ING CAPS!", that kind of stuff... I play maybe an hour a day if even that and it sucks to have the matches spoiled by the whining about low c-bill reward of a capture win/loss. Seems to me its usually the 48 kph assault guys complaining because the mediums & lights won't run in front of them and explode.

Look we all agreed 2 months back when they nerfed missiles we we're going to play 1776 style except with jump jets. If you're not lining up to take volleys at eachother you're doing it wrong and in breach of the contract we all signed.

Everything you have said is great, but many people don't enjoy sitting on a base defending. MWO isn't a job, there's no obligation to play. Many of those people have stopped playing MWO as a result. If PGI wants their shinies then another non-base cap mode is needed. Personally I think those people should stop complaining in game and complain on the forums where there's a chance the devs might notice. From now on I think I'm going to go for caps and set up a macro that says "Don't like it? Ask for another game mode!".

There's plenty of other ways to end a game. They've been discussed in previous TDM threads. I'm sure it's a problem the devs could solve.

I have been playing for a couple months now and have been primarily been playing medium and heavy mechs. I have not tried assault mechs, and last night I purchased my first light mech.
I found out something though, people complain and get pissed off when you capture a base/objective in a game. Not just "hey, come help us out and get off the cap," but "**** you, you *******, you ruined my game". (actual qutoes from last night's fellow players). And this was only three games....
I am wondering at this point the roll of a light mech. If no one is supposed to use a light mech to bob and weave to capture the objectives of the game, then why do people play them?
If everything is supposed to be a kill game and no capturing, then why even have light mechs? Why even have heavies? Should we all pilot Atlases/Highlanders?
This is not a rant, but a serious question. I have brought 4 people into this game recently, and I dont want them to get in and enjoy a mech where everyone complains/insults a player enjoying the abilities of a light mech. Should I tell them to buy an Assault mech and enjoy it so that no one make them feel horrible for playing?

Base capping is far too easy and unengaging - stand in an area for what...2 minutes? the end
Base capping without engagement is thoroughly unrewarding, xp-wise and cbill-wise (barely higher than a 0-8 loss)
Map sizes vs mech speeds are such that base capping *time* almost precludes assaults and many heavies from being able to re-position with any degree of reliability, leaving lights and mediums the only reliable mechs that can pull away from the front to defend the cap, making heavier mechs a tactical liability (by now leaving them outnumbered and unsupported in the field), and that only works on the smaller maps - larger maps, even mediums can be left in the dust if they've moved outside a certain range, effectively *tethering* the whole team to the base as far as their effective engagement range
solid base defense is currently a raging liability to a full engagement - anyone that actually leaves 1-2 units ON base is now at a significant disadvantage if the rest of the team chooses/is-forced to engage in the field, and therefore leaves a significant advantage to the team that commits entirely to engagement
map sizes and weapon ranges are such that in *most* cases engagement is a foregone conclusion, therefore leaving people behind to base defend is...well, see the above
I *like* base assault scenarios, in a wide variety of games, but in my experience, base assaults need to be properly incentivized, and base capture/destruction scenarios need to be properly time consuming AND engaging
Honestly, I think Assault mode is terrible in it's current form - I think base capture areas need to be significantly larger, and relocated to be more accessible to attackers AND defenders. I also think that base capturing should require *some* degree of active work on the part of capturers. And lastly, and I think most people agree with at least this point, the reward/penalty for base capture/loss should be significantly higher, at least equal to if not modestly in excess of a large-scale kill-all win. That feature alone would, I believe, drastically change teams approach to base capture, as they'll spend more effort attempting to avoid enemy forces, or harass enemy forces preventing them from reaching their base, or take up more defensive positions to repel assault.
Might not also be a bad idea to have one-sided assault scenarios - where one team has a "drop-zone" and has to take the enemy base - one team are defenders, one team are attackers, and each now has a more specific reason to hold position around the base, or attack
anyway, point being, the reason many people complain about base-cap wins/losses, is because base-capping just isn't rewarding enough for many, activity-wise or reward-wise, and I tend to agree with them.

Speed is good for base capturing, but if everyone wants a battle, everyone should just be in an assault mech.
I guess I am going to buy one.... No reason for people to ***** at me for playing a small mech properly.

Not sure why it's so difficult for some players to grasp the concept that if you leave your base exposed, it's most likely going to get capped...as it deserves to be.

If its this regular and consistent, maybe pgi should ... MAKE ANOTHER MODE!!!##*$&$%^*(
I know its increasing waiting time, but lets be honest after over a year of the same modes it gets a little tedious.
UI 2.0 + Modes can't arrive soon enough!!
