More to the point, it simply isn't economical unless you're trying to inflate wins. There's no practical value to just 'going after a win for the sake of winning' in this game. You get more points by participating in battle. You're literally only hurting yourself in that regards.
Side note, I think I'm the guy who told you not to be that guy. HOW'S IT HANGING BRO. I remember that game pretty well. It was river city. We had two down, they had two down. And you capped. I could see you from theta. I said "Don't be that guy" specifically because I was having a good run and thought "Maybe he'll be goaded into a fight." Truth be told though, the outcome was far from clear and the game ending was extremely preemptive. I have only ever slung that at one other guy, in alpine in a virtually identical situation; albeit at longer ranges.
I have *NO* qualms about capping if your team was wiped out or if you're facing an impending landslide. Cool. Not a problem. But capping early just to secure a win is pretty bleh.
I suppose it could have been someone else. But I'm reasonably sure I saw your name in that game lol

It's underhanded and cruel - hugely demoralizing to the enemy (even if they win the battle, they lose the round) - but it's also fully within the bounds of the rules.
I do the same thing every chance I get. I like the thought of a single Light Mech making a difference not through raw firepower, but through misdirection and controlling the enemy movements. It's perfect.
Anyone who doesn't like it is just a mouth-breathing neck-beard that needs to get over themselves. It's well within the rules of the game and not unintentional by design. If the enemy team doesn't like it, then maybe their Lights should stop you or they should send someone to defend the base when it happens.
When it happens to my team, I volunteer myself as base-guard and stay there to prevent the finale.

I'm a dedicated light pilot as well and this is step one for light. Force the issue, make them respond or lose.
One day they'll quit whining, hang up those ******** ppc boats and learn drive a real mech that isn't a one trick pony.
Until then, I feast on the tears.
And Gevurah: A win is the point. For those of us that have been playing since closed beta... we have plenty of money, and mechs, and maxed skill trees... all that matters now is winning.

Cap "Rushing/Trading" is another story. Once upon a time, "Cap Rushing/Trading" could arguably net you more c-bills if you won ... but that was back when R&R was around.
But today, "tagging" to split the force is viable ... of course, sometimes the "tagger" ends up getting killed cause the entire team says: "Oh hey, 1 or 2 lone mechs split from the body, let's go kill them".
So yea, "tagging" is one thing, but having lone wolf lites just run right to the enemy cap and end the game just cause they want to increase their win/loss ratio is pretty much frowned upon.
If teams can't deal with taggers, then need to Lrn2Pla.

If your team can handle a lonewolf light bumrushing your base, you are the ones that need to lrn2play.

A cap group of 4 changes that dynamic and often leaves 12 of 16 players like they were robbed of an opportunity too play the game.

Right now, there isn't a whole lot of incentive to cap, other than securing a win. I don't hold it against people, hell, I often cap myself if the opportunity there. It's a viable tactic. People complain because the system is currently set up to give more XP and C-Bills for kills and assists.
What I hope for is that the reason this mechanic continues to exist, at a lesser rewarded rate, is that when CW finally comes out, it is a WIN, not points, c-bills or xp gained, that will determine the shifting faction/territory lines...and that possession will confer a VERY valuable bonus.
Do I wish that there was a slightly more equitable reward for capping? Yes...I think we'd see more lights/mediums to guard against/go for it...but I see nothing wrong with using the mechanic, and hope that in the future it makes gameplay far more diverse than 90% of the snipe/teamdeathmatches I see now.

I've never gone that far - I look for isolated targets. That lone Atlas or Stalker who just couldn't keep up or stopped to LRM/PPC while the team moved on. The taste of Atlas legs is scrumptious.
I'm also fond of being an Altas and hate it when Lights try and henpeck me to death.

No I assure you i'm a light pilot and yes I am a HUGE jerk but thats irrelevent to this tactic. It's just simply suicide to attack a half decent enemy team in a light these days (I also have jager so know how easy it is to hit a light) with so many assualts and heavys so I simply explot the massive ***** in their armor that everyone else seems to think is taboo for some reasons that I couldn't care less about.
