I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this, but...

How cool would it be to have a BattleTech chess set. It could be setup as Clan vs Inner Sphere using various mechs as the peices.

I was thinking something like this:

INNER SPHERE:
King - Dropship
Queen - Atlas
Bishop - Catapult
Knight - Cataphract
Rook - Awesome
Pawn - Urbanmech

CLAN:
King - Dropship
Queen - Daishi
Bishop - Mad Dog
Knight - Summoner
Rook - Mad Cat
Pawn - Kit Fox or maybe Firemoth

Anyone heard of any cool Mech Chess Sets out there? How would you arrange the set if you were designing one?

I like it. The Madcat is definitely a Rook over the Ryoken though. Ryoken is only a 55ton mech.

I have a soft spot in my heart for the Mad Dog though, so I dunno.

LOL! I was just thinking about how I would make a MechWarrior Chess set the other day.

If Someone made this I would totally buy it.

Oh man, I just remembered that I might be getting a 3D Printer soon. I'd totally be able to make my own.

If this happens I will come back with pics.

Did you make this? Is this some version of a chess game or just a render?

Wouldn't the logical answer be to make the Knight a Black Knight?

Not Iconic enough. the point would be to have the Mechs on both sides be amongst the most recognizable ofdesigns for both forces.

It's a render I made. I'd need a fancy 3D printer to make it physical.

so... what you are saying is you need a fancy 3D Printer. Because it needs to be made physical. Better hop to it! Overtime for you!

It's easy;
Step 1.) Buy a chess board
Step 2.) Buy Battletech Minis

Haha, yeah I'll need to program a new type of printer or something though. The geometry for most of those models isn't capable of being 3D printed.

They can, the issue is the way I have them set up. I'd bore you with the details, but basically it would print out a pile of confused goop if I tried to use them.

I'm imagining sort of a Battle Chess setup. But instead of checkerboard like a traditional chess set, it's an 8x8 hex grid.

While the pieces move like a traditional chess set, the players have to fight it out to gain territory and/or capture pieces. Considering the movement rates of standard chess pieces, I'd replace the pawns with infantry rather than a light 'mech. Especially since swarm attacks can be fairly effective. If you manage to get an infantry unit to the other side of the board, then they can mount up in a 'mech.

You play one or two rounds using standard Tabletop rules, where the victor is the one that wins a tactical victory. The resulting damage determines whether a piece is destroyed or forced into retreat. If retreat isn't possible (via standard Chess movement) then the losing piece is captured. If there is a draw, then the attacker moves back to their original position.
