If I was going to be a huge damage dealer which mech would I want.

You better make your tastes known. Do you want the mobility or armor on top of all that firepower? Weight class? Jump jets?
Long range or short? What type of weapon do you prefer(missiles, ballistic or energy)?

But going for an Atlas or an Awesome are safe bets.

I'd suggest Dragon, it's a heavy, with great armor, 4th fastest mech, (only 10kph slower than Commando and Raven), and reasonable weaponry (which can be customised so it's awesome!)
Overall heavies and assaults are recommended for newer players in my opinion, since you get a larger room for error with them

Edit: Oh wait, i noticed you said you want "a Damage dealer", so the damage dealers in my opinion are: commando, Hunchback, Cataphract and the Awesome for assault,

Any non-scout. There are no tank mechs or healer mechs. So all mechs are more-or-less damage dealers.
The real questions are "How I want my damage dealt?" and "What am I willing to sacrifice?".

This is not your ordinary MMO game.

It's like asking which of the modern MBTs should I choose if I want to be the healer... ^_^

dragon with an engine upgrade is a scary thing to see overtaking you in a locust hehe.

at any rate as mentioned, it depends on your preferences, any mech is only as dangerous as its pilot makes it.

The starter Mechs are not exactly known, but most assumptions made on the forum are that the starter mechs are the same four as announced in the Founder's Package-

Jenner
Hunchback
Catapult
Atlas

The Jenner is the least armed of the four, but it is the most mobile ,able to quickly run behind an enemy and hit their weak rear armor. 4x medium lasers and some SRM pack a fair amount of damage in close range.

The Hunchback is a solid, armoured, close-ranged fighter. By default it loads the powerful AC/20 plus some medium and small lasers for extra up-close firepower. Armoured brawler.

The Catapult is more of an indirect fighter, it's main damage is using 2x long range missiles and it also has 4x medium lasers for defense. A bit less armor for a Heavy, but it has Jump Jets for added mobility.

The Atlas is essentially a tank. Quite slow, but with the absolute most armor available. Lots of weapons for all ranges (LRM, AC/20, SRM, medium lasers)

Weapons can also be modified; You can switch long range missiles for short range ones, or switch a gauss rifle instead of an ac/20(gauss has less damage but much more range), or even change lasers into long-range Particle Projector Cannons (PPC). But, for everything you want to modify, you need to take away something else, and there are complicated rules for weight, space, and weapon-type.

It all depends on HOW you want to deal your damage. Every mech will be important on the battlefield AND be able to dish out some hurt. Granted some more than others, but there will be trade-offs. I plan on piloting a Raven as my first mech.

Is this a wow joke? Are we getting punked?

Um... if you want damage dealer. I'd go with Any/All weapons ever.. If you want to play a tank.... Take off all your weapons and run in circles.

you have to accept that there will be a lot of people coming to play MWO who have never played a Mechwarrior game ever before. They won't know what mechs do what, they won't know that 4x mediums lasers on a Jenner are the same as the 4x medium lasers on a Catapult, and there will invariably be comparisons to other, more well-known franchises.

The dragon for sure, with paired PPC's, 4 - 6 ML, possibly 2 SRM 6 packs, and of course extra heat sinks. A medium and close range brawler, with additional armor as well.

Were these mechs actually confirmed as Founder mechs? I seem to have missed that announcement?

The forum tears will be delicious when people actually realize what the hardpoint system allows for. Or in this case, doesn't allow for.... ;)

They're listed in the Artwork section of the website, labeled with Operation Inception. They have a custom paint job, too.

Well, there goes my theory that the Commando would be the beginning starter mech! Unless the Jenner is just for Founders.

A huge damage dealer huh? Get his man....an urbanmech, if he survives he wont be worried so much about 'huge damage dealing' anymore!

No seriously hunchback, reasonable protection, decent speed serious firepower and the chassis is very forgiving.
