Well, as promised, I bought it and I've playd it for about 4 hours now and honestly for a Stalker it feels underwhelming. The hardpoints are too restrictive. The Misery sacrifices too much to add that single Ballistic hardpoint. After trying every conceivable build with less than fair results I ended up going back to using a Standard 280 engine with 23 Double Heatsinks and 5 Large Lasers. Sad really, considering I can do this with a STK-5M any day of the week without paying real money. I had hoped to accomplish more with this 'Mech but alas that was not the case for me. Beyond the 5 Large Lasers the only build I found somewhat effective was 2 ERPPC's, 2 Medium Lasers and 1 AC/20. While some may feel they enjoy this 'Mech, I have found it is not the one for me.

I really WANT to like it, and its ALLLLLLLMOST good enough, but after fiddling around with it in various mechlabs (outside of the game itself), I've come to pretty much the same conclusion.

The 3f beats it on twist, of course, but not heat management -that's ridiculous. That's purely build specific, and there's a lot of crossover.

A 4 LL 1UAC5 utterly dominates a 5LL stalker.

The above said, the Stalker in general is a fairly polarizing mech I find. Some love it, some hate it. For many, the 3f is the only usable variant as the limited torso twist on the others is too crippling.

Its an interesting chassis, but definitely not for everyone.

I've noticed that lots of the ones who post in favor of it are staff :).

Even now, I still want to like it, to give it a try.. if only for the paint job.

But its just so bad :);. Why not just buy a 3F?

Why not the heavy metal then, there is no need for it to be pink now.

Everybody in-game is saying this. Simple: I don't have any Highlanders yet and cash is slowly flowing. I'll save for CW, surely it will be quite expensive. Probably the same for the others.

it might, by virtue of being that much better and having more hard points.

Also, due to the lack of a "shoot me" torso that will explode (if you use gauss).

Outside of the stock loadout most misery mechs I have seen have an ac20, and one I just seen with a LB.

Ugh. So what's in the energy slots? Even regular PPCs would run omgwtf hot...

I tried that, but found it stupidly hot.

What worked MUCH better - for me at least - was 4LL 1UAC5. The UAC synergizes well with LL's - low heat, high damage, can hit for up to 20 damage in the beam duration of the LL's (2xdoubleshots) and the weaponed jammed time isn't too far off the LL recycle. Or you can just single-fire it for high continuous dps, and at a nice juicy long range too. Provides a nice damage output while cooling off, too, though heat efficiency isn't too bad.

The Misery is fine. I run a STD310, 4 ML, LPL, AC/20 build and it brawls like a beast. Heat isn't bad at all. I've been afraid to run a Gauss due to how easily they explode, but I've seen other Miseries just destroying with Gauss rifles. Bottom line: if you like Stalkers, you really gotta have a Misery in your mechbay. It's a fairly unique variant.

Stalker 3-F vs. Stalker Misery comparison:

Turn Time = time it takes to complete one complete 360 degree turn while moving at top speed.
Acceleration Time = time it takes to go from zero to full speed (65 KPH).

Stalker 3-F

Max Speed: 65 KPH
Max Torso Twist: 95 degrees
Turn Time: 10.8 seconds
Acceleration Time: 3.5 seconds

Stalker Misery

Max Speed: 65 KPH
Max Torso Twist: 85 degrees
Turn Time: 9.8 seconds (10% faster than the 3-F)
Acceleration Time: 3.1 Seconds (10% faster than the 3-F)

As you can see there were no real surprises with my results... same values as PGI stated in the patch notes. So which variant is superior? The answer, as usual, depends on your play style.

Its so horribly inferior... if it had ECM at least you could slap a tag on it with some ERPPCs and play Predator:

Report!

I'm a little over 200 matches now with Misery, and it is certainly growing on me. With my setup I find it to be a fun balance between able to annoy people at range, hit hard up front, and cool enough to keep on the pressure in endurance fights. I particularly appreciate it when I round a corner and find myself face-to-face with a mint armoured Atlas. Misery has the firepower to take it down with plenty of armour left over to annoy his friends. Assuming, of course, that I can protect that giant rifle barrel that tends to blow up all too often. I am getting used to protecting that side, being aware of my manouvering, where enemies are, and who I choose to shoot at. This situational awareness helps in many more ways than saving my big gun.

Win/Loss, Kill/Death, Dmg per match and XP per match are all on par with my other Stalker variants (excluding the 5S which is greatly inflated through PPC boating). Of course, the 30% C-Bill bonus makes Misery more lucrative (again, the PPC boat edges out Misery's 30% bonus just a little, though recently I feel dirty using it).

The 4ML, 1LL, 1Guass is staying put, what I'm torn between is either an SRM6+Artemis+STD305 vs SSRM2+BAP+STD310. The SRM6 is great for tearing into that Atlas I accdentally run into, but I tend to miss shots too often on anything that moves generating a lot of extra heat. The SSRM runs much cooler, guaranteed to hit, BAP and a faster engine is nice to have, but a single SSRM seems... frivolous.

My verdict? I like it! I fully expect Misery to be the most played mech in my rotation over the next few weeks.
