The developers should seriously consider adding Mech Biographies to the new Mechlab for UI 2.0. The Mech Bio would give a description of the BattleMech, along with information such as history, role, and capabilities. The Mech Bio would also show the lore behind Hero BattleMechs. Adding some lore to MWO not only keeps players engaged but also makes them want to explore the game further. After all, BattleTech has such a rich and storied history. This not only benefits new players, but also gives a sense of nostalgia to beloved fans. Thoughts/Opinions?

Short example:

Mech Bio: Dragon
Heavily armored and fast for a heavy 'Mech, the Dragon has serious staying power many other machines lack. Its mix of weaponry - including an LRM 10, AC/5 and twin Medium Lasers - provides flexibility for rapidly changing battlefield conditions. While its primary armaments are ammo-dependent, both have deep magazines to ensure you can hound an enemy into retreat. Source: https://mwtactics.co...w-3D-Bio-Dragon

I like your suggestion - it adds spirit to the game. Voted Yes.

I'm always happy to see applicable fluff added to the game. A good portion of my love for Battletech comes from reading about mechs and weapons.

Assuming there will be some space to spare - why not?

Make it an button you can press that say details or description like WoT does. Those windows are easy to navigate and to make comparisons.

Yes, but only as long as it is not somewhere that you will see it every time you open the mech lab and taking up space that we need to use for things that are important. The mech bio is something you will read once and then not want to see again.

Another idea would be to add this info to the screen where you purchase the mech.

The main reason I bought the stalker was the description on Sarna: <edited>

"The Stalker's weapons assortment is built to increase damage as it closes with its target.
The Stalker's long range weapons are two LRM-10 launchers. These provide the Stalker with its longest-range punch and allow it to give indirect fire support when needed.
At shorter range the Stalker next brings its two Large Lasers to bear on its target.
For close ranges, the Stalker carries four Medium Lasers.
Finally, it mounts two SRM-6 launchers which enable it to take advantage of any weak spots in the enemy’s armor.
The Stalker's largest problem lies in its heat management. It originally used a special computer to make the best use of its weaponry with regards to the heat it would generate. Unfortunately this program is now lost and a MechWarrior should stagger fire of its weapons to avoid overheating problems."

The Bio could also be available during purchase. Good idea.

Don't say that! They'll misunderstand and charge MC for it.

Here's the one guy that voted no...

+1 on this. Given that a lot of the necessary fluff is readily available out there, I think that this would be a solid addition to the UI 2.0 release. Sure, some wouldn't read it, but there would certainly be a great number, myself included, who would. I think the only potential issue they might run into is some weird licensing issues perhaps.

+1 on this, and someone should ask about this in the new ATD.

I think this is a great idea but I voted 'NO' because this can be a lot of info that does not need to be in the new UI 2.0 maybe a link.

Yes I agree with anything that gives MWO more depth. MWO is built on a long tradition with a rich history; it is our duty to pass this on to those that are joining for the first time. The Bio is a great way to draw people into the MWO universe and give it more meaning.

this is mostly just fluff, good to have in the game but I don't think it is urgent enough to be include in U.I. 2.0.
maybe sometime during or after official release.

I disagree 100%. Getting new people drawn into the universe of MWO is critical to the success of this game!

I agree that fresh blood will keep the game running.
But adding fluff like this is not necessary the thing that will draw new player, it is the old BT fan that will get excited about this.
U.I.2.0 should cater to making better gameplay and social experience first, once that is done we can go on adding fluff.

There are Sooooooo many other things I would rather get in the UI that this that I had to vote a STRONG NO on this.

Just a few
  • Ability yo save mech configurations
  • Ability to search for parts among all mechs
  • ability to carry over modules from 1 mech to another
  • Ability to rearrange your mechs
  • ability to rename your mechs
  • better searching/ordering of mechs
So much more than adding a BIO. down the road, possible, but definitely not 2.0.
