I know we're getting the Blackjack, but I saw some comments somewhere about a light then assault then heavy in the coming months. I can't remember where I saw it, and searching for "upcoming mechs" is not really fruitful.

Can anyone tell me what has been stated in terms of the next few upcoming mechs...or is it purely speculation?

normally its light>medium>heavy> assault

but this cycle. we are doing medium>light>heavy> assault.

because the flea needs extra work for MASC. so they are pushing it back, and releaseing the medium blackjack first.

if i remember correctly they did the same thing for raven, because they needed mroe time to do ECM.

Another terrible small ballistic mech? Ok, they are only bad because machine guns are terrible. Give us the dervish already.

Any info beyond Blackjack and Flea? Have they said what heavy is coming? I know I read the assault mech was unnamed as of yet...

I would love to see the Bushwacker, but IIRC, it doesn't show up until after the Clan Invasion is nearly over. They had to recover a downed Mad Dog to get it to work right...so I doubt that will be anytime soon. (Yes I know it's a Medium)

Yes they said somewhere (perhaps the ask the devs) that the next mechs will be: Medium (Blackjack); Heavy (Orion); Assault (unannounced); Light (Flea).

In that order with the Flea last (after the unnamed mech)

Aha! So it's the Orion coming after Blackjack then...interesting. Thanks for the update.

Maybe the Assault Mech will be the Mauler...that would be an interesting mech.

The Mauler's been proposed on the forums as a possibility before. It's possible, but it lacks three separate variants that fit into the timeline.

A lot of people see the Banshee as likely, and I have to concede that it fits a number of criteria that make its introduction posssible. It's got a number of variants within the timeline, it's a tonnage that is currently unfilled by any current mech (95 tons), and it looks unique. I'd be interested in seeing the Zeus added instead but since it's the same tonnage as the Awesome and even looks similar, I don't find it as likely. Also, my favorite assault I'd like to be added, the King Crab, has a number of issues that make its addition to the game unlikely. I've seem some people suggest the Victor too, but I don't think we'll see more 80 ton mechs or Assaults with jump jets anytime soon, and the Victor is both.

I could see the Banshee as a possibility...but, IIRC, that thing was so slow you could watch grass grow before it got to you...either that, or I have it backwards and it was all motor with little armor and weapons...I may have it backwards with the Battlemaster...I always have trouble remembering which was which.

Judging by the standard loadout from the link in the post above yours, for a 95-ton mech that thing might as well be carrying a big stick to hit things with. 1 PPC, 1 AC5 (with 1! 1 ton of ammo!) and a (hah) Small Laser. If they didn't give that mech triple the minimum hardpoints it would be nothing more than a walking target. If that is the next Assault I will be severely disappointed.

Edit: I've seen Trebuchets with more firepower than that. Really pathetic.

PGI's been "flexible" about adding new variants - see Highlander - but we can't expect that every time.

What do you mean? All Highlander variants are canon.

Ah, nevermind then. It was my impression that at least one of them was on more tenuous canonical ground. I'll strike that sentence from my post.

People say that they fudged the rules a little with the Highlander, because all of the 733 variants are really the same variant in TT with different loadouts.

In my opinion that's fine, and anything that gets more chassis in the game the better.

I'm really looking forward to the Flea; If they don't restrict it's top speed, this could give me the means to get some payback against the Jenner's.

Well put. The only mech that "might" also be included is the Hatamoto Chi to give House Kurita some flavor for the Assault Class.

This would like a word with you:

BNC-3S - The 3S was Defiance Industries' attempt to turn the Banshee into a typical assault 'Mech, replacing the bulky GM engine with a lighter Pitban 285. While this reduces its maximum speed to 54 km/h, it also frees up a great deal of room for weapons. The 'Mech is armed with two PPCs for long range, an Imperator-B Autocannon/10 to engage an enemy at intermediate ranges, four Magna Mk II Medium Lasers and a Harpoon SRM-6 launcher for short-range combat, and finally a second Small Laser to round out the weapons payload. Five more heat sinks were added, though overheating remains a problem, and its armoring remains the same.

Ngamok makes some good points, but there's another thing he didn't mention on this front:

A bad stock layout has never stopped a mech from being effective before. Look at the Cicada 2A. Two medium lasers and one small? Pathetic. Yet when properly configured (often with 6 MLs) it becomes a very mobile gunboat.

Don't underestimate the capabilities of a variant because of what weapons it starts with.
