It prevents spillover damage. Thats it.

This is how it works. Which means CASE does nothing, it's only installed on mechs (stock) with XL's and will do nothing to protect the engine.

So why is it on there?

The reason for this thread is to understand the use for CASE and maybe have PGI look at how it works.

If we had R&R costs, CASE would be on every mech that had ammunition and an XL engine, simply because it's a lot easier to repair an engine that's been disabled as opposed to destroyed. Kinda makes me wonder what the game would be like if we had to rebuy all destroyed components...more than likely a wasteland as everyone would leave ASAFP.

Currently it's on there to prevent you from losing the mech in the event that ammunition gets destroyed with a standard engine. The thing is, with the way MWO handles Criticals, and the fact that ammo only explodes 10% of the time there's no reason not to put it in the legs/ct/head. If this was TT you'd never put ammo there, it'd always been in your side torsos with CASE because if it gets hit you're still functional instead of dead.

Clan CASE though, costs no crits, no tonnage, it's just assumed to be there and can be put anywhere...lucky sobs.

Because not everyone uses XL engines. When I buy a mech with an XL engine the first thing I do is get rid of the engine. XL Engines have a very narrow range of use IMO.

My mech can function with half it's body gone because I have a standard engine. CASE could, in theory, keep me in a game even after a massive ammo explosion that would otherwise kill me.

Is it worth it? Not for me. But then, most of my builds are heavy on Gauss and energy weapons. If I was using a missile heavy build I would consider it.

The point is, many moons ago the Devs claimed they would make CASE work better in conjunction with XL, since they clearly stated that TT Record Sheets sometimes have CASE mounted with XL. The only advantage this case ever had was when R&R existed, and it simply saved you C-Bills by making the repair cost of the XL a lot less.

Currently using CASE with XL is pointless, since it does not protect the part of the engine that exist in the side torso's. If it did, it would be more worthwhile to use with an XL. This change needs to happen, and its been months since the Devs last said anything about it.

All they would have to do is make it so a CASE + XL = No damage to CT or Internal Engine of side torso.
