I was in a vision mode thread and it reminded me about cheating. My reminiscing of strolling in River City night going Lower City in the River and getting pounded from a shot up river from outside 1200m made me remember how awesome Aimbots aren't. (with the old thermal, you could see them)
PGI hasn't released any data recently on how they are cracking down on cheaters. It would be nice to have some stats on how many folks are getting busted. Maybe an update on how they are progressing in the anti cheating area would be cool too.

There are a variety of reasons they don't discuss cheating. The most obvious is because they don't want to spread rumor and conjecture, another is because they don't want cheaters to get any idea of how their cheats are detected.
I've gotten nearly 4,000 drops since they started tracking that stat. I can count on one hand the amount of times I could question whether or not a kill was legitimate.

I can see people outside 1200m in normal vision. Multiple weapons shoot over 1200m and at least one goes over 2k. How is that "cheating"?

Because it hit him and he didn't like it... duh?

Seriously, I used to instantly grit my teeth when I'd either see a BVR shot or for that matter get hit by one. It boiled down to "damn-it... how can I fight what I can't see! irritation"...
After a while I realized "I" was just as culpable for wandering around in the open and standing still for too long. As soon as I learned how to terrain mask and kept moving, the BVR shots both become far less prevalent and ineffective as so few of them were landing and if anything, they were broadcasting their positions.
Long and short... You can use tactics to mitigate the problem or you can let it frustrate you and simply complain about it.

You don't need the old thermal to see people walking in the open. You're small, but still plain-as-day when walking across the river to the lower part of the city with normal vision.

I do miss the old thermal on that map though. Mostly from the idiots using it to snipe at me. I would stand in the Upper Base area behind the mesh. They could see my thermal blob easily but apparently didn't watch for their reticule to flash red as they would dump alpha after alpha into the mesh and not hurt me at all.

Who cheats on this game? It's barely competitive, it's slow, and programming an aimbot to both lead and compensate for slow aiming is going to be kinda hard. I don't think I've ever seen an actual case of cheating in my months playing this game.
