I guess this method of balancing a chassis wouldn't bother me as much if it was implemented on any other mechs. But so far the catapult is the only mech that has been nerfed in this way. If this is how PGI wants to balance overperforming mech chassis, then please increase the head hitboxes on the stalker, highlander, hunchback and raven, since those mechs seem to be the FoTM. (the stalker even LOOKS like a big catapult)

It was no balancing act. They simply strived for simple, instinctive and canon way of portraying headhots: "i.e., the orange pseudo glass (armor) is where the cockpit is, hit it and you kill the pilot inside." Imo, it is fair to mention they did not do it like that on Awesome and it sucked, so...

There's nothing wrong with that except then the Cataphract came and the mech has a "rather sizable" cockpit to put it nicely which simply couldn't exist with the FPS mechanics and TT head armor restrictions... so they scaled it down twice. Besides that, every other mech has it's cockpit exactly where it's supposed to be to limit excessive spreadsheeting where you have to commence imnense research to find a place where to shoot (like in Cataphract).

So no... balancing has nothing to do with it at all.

Oh, and the Catapult definitely doesn't have it's cockpit in the center of it's mass... That is under the cockpit at the tip of it's "nose." Makes a bigger difference than it sounds.

Hmmm well I guess it makes sense when trying to achieve realism from a structural layout perspective...that hardly constitutes balance though unfortunately as you have pointed out.

The Catapult is, and has, for decades, been called "Cat". Now this has sometimes cause confusion with the Madcat. ...but cata???

I mean were you on comms yelling "Look out Cata K2" 6-8 months ago, LMAO!

Ok then, I take it back. If this wasn't a nerf, I apologize for assuming it was. Either way, cannon or not, 1-10 matches ends with a headshot and almost no damage to the rest of my mech. I look around and move my torso to prevent hits going to my ct/head, but I always get shot in the face when I turn to shoot. And lets face it, its a lot closer to center mass than say, a hunchback or an atlas. Most of the time when I get HS I KNOW that they weren't going for it, because I had just turned towards them.

Yeah... And while it may not be center mass exactly... pretty close. What is more annoying about the head location is that, excluding light mechs, most mechs only have to aim down slightly to hit it while on other mechs you have to aim way up high to hit the head or feel it out a little bit like you do on a cataphract. I don't really have a problem with the location though... Once again it is that the cockpit is huge. If you wanted to get technical about it, the Atlas should have a gianormous head and so should the cataphract, but they don't simply because in reality vs the table top, people are a lot more accurate than those dice rolls ever showed.

I find the placement of the catapult's head hitbox size combined with the location, makes it way too easy to snipe out. I feel other than that the catapult is very nicely balanced. Sure side torso could use a little tweaking imo, but out of all the mechs, the catapult has the largest and fastest torso movement to make up for the large CT hit box, but the head hit box size needs to be reduced.

The Cat is one of my favorites, used it as my personal ride in MW2 mercs, and it was the first thing I bought back in CB.

And while I get headshot more often when I pilot them, I don't really care. It's not a big enough difference to make it underpowered, and most of the time I would've been dead whether I was headshot or not.

The Jenner has all the same hitbox issues as the Cat, big head, takes CT damage from behind, ect. Don't see NEARLY as many people complaining about that, mostly because the Jenner has a lot of other advantages. Just like the Cat.

I'd be okay with them making the side windows not be part of the head, but there isn't anything wrong with some mechs being harder to pilot, so long as they're still viable in the hands of an experienced player.
