I'm reading quite a bit about an FPS bug, memory leaks, and other such language that is beyond my knowledge.

My FPS Dropped from playable (sorry, can't say exactly what it was, at least 30's) to around 10. Slightly above in the mech lab, slightly below in game/combat. I have been unable to fix the problem to date and I am reaching out to the community to help with further suggestions.

To start, here is a recent dxdiag:
Spoiler

I'm looking for constructive suggestions here. My system may be different than yours but I have been quite happy for 1300+ matches until this FPS drop hit me.

Until Monday, I played the game on low settings, widescreen windowed mode over wi-fi. I have had my fair share of bugs but do not ever recall having low FPS problems in spite of playing back to back games for a couple hours, many times.

Monday May 6, several matches in, I suddenly experienced low FPS. Ever since, my game sits at an unplayable 5-13 FPS at all times.

I have contacted my ISP, opened a ticket, and been helped by some more knowledgeable folks than I. The following is a list of things I have done so far some multiple times and not necessarily in this order:
Alt-tab out of client
Drop to the second lowest screen size
Switch to full screen
Restart client
Restart computer
Restart modem
Hard wire to modem
Run repair tool
Reinstalled game
Internet speed check: 145ping, 21d/l, 2.8u/l
Shut off firewall
Deleted shaders file
Patched client (patch day)
Ran Advanced system care (3rd party maintenance tool) to clean up computer
Checked graphics drivers
Defrag computer
Virus scan computer (ESET)

Ok. I pulled off my base plate, blew some compressed air into my fans, and this morning, 30fps!!!

I absolutely love getting killed at 30fps. Waaaay more fun than dieing at 8fps.

Something worked. Hard time believing it was the fans but clearly I believe in the wrong sometimes.

The suggestions below is intended to be done one thing at a time then test.

First, have you either reinstalled the game or used the following to get everything back to default?

Mwo Repair Tool Public Release

Load a program that is showing real time CPU speed, not simply what it was clocked at when started.

1. Connected to AC or running on battery? Need to run on AC.
2. Power Options, Control Panel, Power Options, Select High Performance.
3. As posted, can of compressed air on the heat sinks/vents.
4. Program to monitor fans, are all of them running? Speedfan should be utilized.

Below is link on how to prevent laptop from using Turbo Boost. Newer laptops run at a base speed but when it thinks it needs more power for a program, it can Turbo Boost it. The issue with laptops though is the turbo boost does not affect ALL of the cores. The higher the boost the fewer cores used. This can also, at times, lead to that one core getting hot enough that the system now drops the CPU speed to half of the standard speed. For a few players the CPU speed would look like a sine graph.

Do this one last. Set management to 97/98% instead of the suggested 99% to disable Turbo Boost.

I will begin working on these suggestions. Thank you for the suggestions!!

I have re installed the game once and run the repair tool many times.

I cleaned the fans/heatsink last night.

I have always run with power plugged in.

Those are probably your problem. Laptop with sub-par hardware for this game. It doesn't surprise me you are only getting around 30FPS even at 1600x900. The last few patches have given ~25% hit in frame rates for myself and several friends (from ~60 avearge to 45).

I'm having FPS issues. I have noticed that for some reason the game is causing my video card to switch between 2D and 3D clocks while in game. Obviously when it switches to 2D clocks the FPS drop to 12 to 15 FPS.

It seems to only be MWO that does this.

I've had had FPS problems since April, when they first rolled out the patch. Recently I took the time to work through several options in the Video options in game.

1. There appears to be a sweet spot resolution that I believe may be unique to each graphics card, so experiment around to see what gives you the best FPS. This is, to my knowledge, the one biggest factor in FPS.

2. Apparently, Window, Full Window, and Fullscreen have different impact on my laptop (running an Intel/ Nvidia 650m mix). I found running Full Window actually better for me.

3. Most of the graphics options doesn't have much more than a 1 FPS impact between Low and Very High. The three main ones that had impact for me is Environments, Shadows and Shaders. I kept those at Low. The rest I can pump to high, very high even.

4. Wireless connection may be a problem. I have a somewhat suspect router tied to a fiber line, and happen to be at the far end of the house from it, so occasionally my wireless connectivity will drop low. MWO looks to be very sensitive to this happening. Example: I tuned the above, had one night with no issue (30+ FPS), the next night in the same room the same setup, FPS drops pretty much to 10 until I dropped my resolution down all the way.

Can't solve your problem, but hope the above helps.

This is very interesting and would explain the "stuttering" phenomena I've been experiencing How did you figure out that it is switching clocks?

Also, It seems like every time I see this topic, the poster has an Alienware with an ATI card. Welcome to the club, founded sometime in April. :-(

I have a EVGA GTX 680 and I'm using EVGA's Precision software for adjusting setting on the card.

Precision has a monitoring feature where you can see a graph of the card clocks mem usage temp etc.

Update: All the things I tried seemed to only be a temp fix for the issue. I finally set up a profile for the MWO executable under Nvidia Control panel and so far so good the issue is gone. Ocasionally I will see lag probably due to someone's ping or internet traffic but no longer the regular every few seconds FPS drop.

The game's FPS noticeably drops and it starts stuttering at times during the mech lab.. Also, this happens noticeably during the game is when you are inside a battle with more than 4 mechs and lots of explosions or particles..

I feel like this game will actually fry my laptop oneday, as my the fan goes on full blast blowing winds of hair dryer temperatures out of the thing..

Gpu is not to blame because I can run the game with any graphic settings and it will still stutter at times..

I will test the above stuff you guys posted and hope for the best, thank you all!

It seems like this is happening more often after the last couple of patches.

Please provide details of system. Dxdiag from the top to just past the sound card will provide enough information.

I am experiencing horrible fps at times as well (today in canyon about 8-12ish). Seems to be getting worse and worse. Strange thing is, the FPS seems to differ a lot between games and/or sessions. Normally I get about 25ish. Some days however, I get about 60 fps on high settings, sometimes only 8-12 on low settings. Really strange. I know my CPU is not the newest model, but still, I should be able to get decent fps. Below is my dxdiag. So far I've tried different things: changing screen size, full screen, windowed mode, using the mwo repair tool, changing graphics settings, closing not needed programs. What to do?

Just general basics..

1. Can of compressed air, clear out heat sinks, make sure the system is not in an enclosed or semi enclosed area.
2. Set Best performance in Control Panel, Power Options.
3. Try the Beta drivers, but first uninstall all previous ATI drivers.
Also update sound card drivers.

Afterwards, will check to see how you feel about OC the CPU some, if viable.

Compressed air solved my problem.. Though I will get a cool pack as-well or a cooling dock as an extra..

Just posting an update to help wrapping up this issue..
