Best Assault Mech For Laser Build?

I want to use lasers/energy/ballistic weapons only. I just cant stand missiles and I love pounding on enemy mechs with lasers.
Which Assault Mech is the best for that?
Im just a beginner but thats what Im thinking:
-The Awesome 8Q looks ok. Maybe I could swap out 1 PPC (dont even know if I like PPC´s, never used them till now) to add a large laser or something like that.
-The Stalker 3F is often mentioned here but I cant see why its good. It has an additional energy weapon slot but lacks armor compared to the Awesome 8Q and the Heat Efficiency is also alot worse going by the stats in the mechlab?
-The Highlander 732 could fit an AC20 and 3 energy weapons, but the missile spots would be wasted.
-Same for Highlander 733C, 2x AC20 and 2 energy weapons seems interesting but again 3 unneeded missile slots.
- The Atlas 7D looks great, alot of armor and could fit 2x AC20 and 4 energy weapons, plenty of firepower? And it should fit the most because its the heaviest mech of all.
Seems like the Highlander would be the worst choice, correct me if Im wrong.
Right now Im leaning towards the Atlas 7D, should I buy it or is there something I dont see or know?

You cannot mount 2x ac20 on any assault mech, not enough slots.
Stalker 3F is the best Stalker variant because of more/faster torso twist.
Stalkers are harder to core due to hit boxes and profile than a Atlas or Awesome and their energy mounts in the arms are very high up on the models which enables them to peak over ridges where an Atlas or Awesome would have to expose its whole upper body and the easily hittable center torso.
Highlanders bring jump-jets.
For the current game-state its Stalker (durable high alfa ridge camper) or HGN (jumpsniper with assault weapon loadout) with PPCs + something. I have high hopes it wont take PGI 3 months to change this though

I hate Stalkers, they look like a ugly plane on legs and handle like a lawnmower...

Anyways thanks for the replys, seems like I will be getting the Stalker 3F. The thing with the better covered core and the energy mounts high on top seems nice, sounds like a nice advantage on hillmaps.
And I´ve read several times that the Atlas gets targeted by everyone first so maybe its better to get it later, after gaining more experience.

However if you decided to go for an Atlas, the RS would be better for you. 2 Energy slots are in CT on the AS7-D, meaning you are limited to Medium or Small Lasers.

You don't have the basics of the game down. It's not possible to put two big ballistics in the atlas, because the slots are in the same location. Stalkers are much better than awesomes, because their guns are mounted far higher up, and they have more tonnage to play with total.

Upgraded to Endo-Steel, added a few more heat sinks, removed the missiles and added 2 more Large Lasers, 2 ERPPC´s and the AMS.
Still trying around a bit but I need to save money to buy more upgrades, especially double heatsinks and generally more heatsinks.
Just played 1 round till now but I already like it, big step up from the trial mechs in any regard.

Endo Steel is kinda bad because you need tons of crit spaces for those DHS.

Yeah noticed that too, afterwards haha.
Well my bad, gonna need to play a bit more to make up for the c-bills.
@blacklp: Thanks looks good but first I need to kick out the Endo Steel.
/Edit: Are XL Engines ok or are they too fragile in the Stalker? I found different opinions on that.
/Edit²: Oh forget my last question, just saw that XL Engines take way to many slots anyways.

Don't put XL on Stalker if you are going to use laser build. XL engine on Stalker is only decent if you are gonna boat LRMs.

All that is true. But for an all laser build I would rather have a stalker. For all the reasons you mentioned, those things are tanks. They are the hardest-to-kill mech in the game IMO. I like that the hardpoints are spread evenly on a Stalker...on a Highlander, all direct fire is on one side of the body. I play a highlander (HM) simply because I like how it looks and have more build options. But a Stalker has more energy hardpoints and is a lot harder to kill.
And I used to think they were ugly too, but Misery changed my mind. I kind of like them now.
