A noisy community is a good one IMO. While the traffic here might not be that high we're better off than a lot of AAA titles.
Edit: No one mouths off unless they care....

I would optimistically put active players at 10% of that. Look at the heatmaps for kills/deaths in a day, and compare them to the same days 6 weeks ago. There's no denying it, the game numbers are in decline.
Is it doomsday for MWO? No, I don't think so. This last patch has been very unpopular in terms of gameplay balance and failure to introduce significant bug fixes that many players were hoping for. I think a lot of players are just waiting in the wings for the game to get better.
Give the game a spin and see how you like it. If not, try again after the 21st when the next patch drops. Not like it costs you anything...

Retired 2nd Bat D-co here. The game is still strong. Thats why there are so many whiners. They are all upset that they didn't think to put 6 ppc's on a stalker.
Lead The way bro.

Even if there's many players leaving, they will eventually come back after the release, and we will have lots of people playing. Of course then, we will be able to measure effectively the numbers.
And... there's still many Mechwarriors fans, huge groups and clans that aren't playing due to the current bugs. Once those are solved we will see a serious influx of players.

They just doubled their staff. Companies do not double staff if their one project is in decline. IGP (the publisher) would not allow it, and would redirect resources to one of their other games.
Heat map weighting is unknown, making it a bad proxy for player population. It's a more useful map, which probably indicates intent.
Also, active players vary widely depending on time of day, day of week, etc.

guess what, sometimes people are too busy leveling up a mech to come to the forums. some players NEVER look at the forums, EVER.
Trust me, if my frugal a s s is any indication as to how MWO is doing, they are raking it in buddy. And they're raking it in cuz it's a good game with lot's of potential. anyone who knows me in these forums knows my number one gripe is the lack of maps, and IMO PGI needs to spit 5 out real fast. People get bored playing the same maps. We have plenty of mechs and cammos and dashboard toys and I've beat this horse so many times I've gone through 3 baseball bats.
WE NEED MORE MAPS. PRONTO.
But no, MWO is not dying. Forums are just like broadcast news, they sensationalize and make everything sound worse than it is.

I'd love to hear the sources for the "educated guess" but I think 10% is a bit low. I'd say 24000-32000 unique players per week, but that was from some good math a couple month's ago, not sure what makes me think this but I FEEL it has declined a bit since then with the buggy patches...

It's far more healthy population wise than many would believe I think.

Sounds like quite an exaggeration I think that there would be thousands of simultaneous games. If that was true it would not be as easy to sync-drop as it apparently is. Or how it's not unusual you see a few of the same players you had in your last match in the new one you just joined.
