Hi there everyone,
i'm a rather new pilot, but have some field experience already and pretty much found my role in the group effort.

Mostly will become a scout/harasser type with either light or medium hulls.

I saved up my C-bills before taking any decisive choice on the exact hull to take (so many, i don't know which one to begin with o.O)

I'm looking for a mentor and friend to play in teamwork (sick of solo'ing, yay for teamwork!) during EST timezone evenings and nights, mostly. (I live in Québec, Canada, speak french and english, TS3 available but crappy mic )

Will be keeping an eye on for volunteers willing to give me a hand for the first mech :D

You can feel free to add me in game, I can give you a few points on playing that role and what mechs are good at it :D

I am on the west coast (in B.C. actually hooray for Canadian brethren!) but I typically get off work earlier in the day and therefore could easily be on when you have the time to game.

Also throwing my hat into the ring for anyone else, If you are tired of dropping alone, feel free to add me in game or shoot me a message here on the forums. I may not be a super pro, but I can pass on what I do know.

closer to 11am pacific depending on wiether Daylight Savings Time is being observered or not ( goes Eastern, Central, Mountain, Pacific )

also forgot to mention that I currently have this build:
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...6a5b00c35016727

I am aware that it probably isn't the best thing for a tiny 'Mech like mine.

Not a bad build. Allocating 4 from the gimp arm will allow you to beef up the sides a little more.

I'm glad you chose a smaller engine, I ran the XL 255 engine and while it's great for maneuvering it sucks for fighting. Finding high spots to snipe from will benefit the rig greatly.

Spoiler

I might be able to take you on sometime, throw me an add and we'll wing together.

Why would you put armor in the left arm when it doesn't do anything?

This may be the blind leading the blind but if you drop the armor on th left arm (As it's vestigial to the extreme) You could upgrade the rest of the armor.

True, but the rest of that armor can only go up by two more points. The head is honestly the hardest thing in the world to hit on a Spider. Especially at range.

I am a competitive player. Participate in a few of the community run leagues (Run Hot or Die, Proxis, Last Man Standing).

Would be happy to share what I know. Send me a PM through the website here and I can provide teamspeak info or we can meet up on one of the public chats. I am generally available 0100-0600 (-6GMT) most nights.

I saw your version of the build. I was disappointed. Less than max armor? Only 64? Came up with this. http://mwo.smurfy-ne...f382d671589e4eb Though later I'll show you my real rig.

You're not going anywhere on 8 heat sinks.

Quite right. I don't use Smurfy all that often, sadly, and I still haven't had a chance to build my own version of that rig.

PM me on the forums, add me in game or hop on our TS server (clanwolf.ts.nfoservers.com) if you want a mentor as I don't check the forums too often.

Timezone: PST
Playschedule: Evenings
Preferred Chassis: Heavies and Assaults (my assaults all have 2:1 to 4:1 K:D ratios)
I'm a min-maxer too and have been playing since MW3 so I know my way around the mechlab pretty well.

I also have a few mediums (3xCN9's + 3xHBK's) mastered so I can help you with those as well. I don't play lights really, not that I'm bad at em (my Jenner is a 4:1 ratio), I just can't carry as well as if I'm in something bigger than can take more hits and put out more pain.

Yes I agree that ELO could pose a problem, however say I take said Padawan Mechwarrior under my wing, with two experienced players, that can show them how a group works. They would learn how to call a target, focus fire etc. Plus there have been countless PUG games where I have seen trial mechs galore. ELO works much better now to prevent those top tier pilots from playing the lower tier new guys.

Heck I'm no pro, but I get more kills than deaths.

I agree that the ELO ranking of the hosting player could make for some tough games for a rookie, but I think the experience would be invaluable. Plus they would meet and make new friends along the way :D

maybe thats a function of the command console!!!
among other things maybe it could allow another, more experienced, player to relay advice and tips to a new player trying to use a hard to use mech, you would be able to see what they see but you wouldn't actually be in the match and so your elo wouldnt leave a bad taste in their mouth

know what i mean?

think of it like putting training wheels on something like an atlas

I built one with a gauss - it doesn't live very long, but man - you pop someone in the head a couple times, they take notice of you. Of course, you only have ten shots or so, sooooo....

I'll gladly take someone new under my wing. I'm not the greatest mech pilot out there, but I'm real patient and I'm playing the game because it's fun and not because I want to score giant points or anything.

I mostly pilot Stalkers these days, but also have a Cicada and a Spider in my stable. Would love to have a Medium or Light wingman/woman - I'd even let you take the kill! :D

I'd treat it like the old recoilless rife/TOW jeeps we had back in my salad days. No armor to speak of and limited ammo, so shoot and scoot, shoot and scoot, and rack up the CBills on damage and assists rather than kills.

I'm willing to help teach someone as well. You can quote this post or message me. I'm primarily a Light pilot, but have plenty of experience with Mediums and Heavies as well. We can use in-game chat or teamspeak. I'm on most often in the afternoons Central Time, but can probably pop in whenever for a few games.

WARNING: I do not submit to commonly-accepted strategies, Flavor-of-the-Month (FotM) builds, or most other aspects of the metagame. If you have an idea that others think is "weak", "noobish", "underpowered", "nerfed", or is "holding your team back", I'll try to help you find a way to run what you want and still be effective.

I'd like to make sure this thread is seen again. This is an excellent idea that really needs more support. I'm only a month in with my career but I'd be willing to help out any light pilots out there. I have found that there really is no end to the support you'll receive if you join a "beer league" TeamSpeak group. I have found that actually talking to your teammates makes all the difference. :)

To all new players that don't use mics - don't worry! Find a TS/C3 server, ID yourself as a new player without a mic, and ABOVE ALL follow targeting directions. You'll fall in very quickly and learn quite a lot. Good luck!

I'm available at random times. Currently in the process of mastering a Hunchback. But due to various reasons relating to real life I don't generally use voice comms... and will use lance chat instead by way of trying to teach anything.

The problem as already stated by the second poster is that my ELO class is also extremely high, so I'm not sure if that would make it actually harder for a new player to learn if they're pitted against harder opponents from the outset.

My ability to shoot and pilot is above average, but there are better pilots and teachers out there for that. My specialty is tactics and positioning... newer pilots can learn as much as they wish to in that topic.

So I started watching streams on twitch about MWO and it just got me in the mood to play it. I did get into the closed beta when it was first announced but I only played like 5 matches and stopped. I guess it was because of the mechanics of the game and the fact that I was completely lost that discouraged me from continuing playing.

I have read the PDF file on Beginners Guide to MWO, and it helped quite a bit on some terminology used in the game and some of the weapons that this game has and etc. But I would still like to have someone or a group of people to help me out more hands-on about the game.

I just started playing today like 1 in the morning and played a couple of matches so I think I qualify as a noob lol. But this time around I actually would like to get into this game and play to the fullest.

So please anyone...adopt me (sniff).

Don't know what info I need to post exactly but:

I would like to focus more on Sniper style mechs/long range? Even though I wouldn't mind learning and playing with other kinds of mech type, but I primarily want to be able to learn and build and efficient and boss status Sniper Mech. I am 24 years of age, male and from the Eastern side of the US. I have Skype,Ventrilo, and I think I have Teamspeak(willing to download any voice-chat software though). And I think that's about it..oh and my Pilot name is Revo Emag if anything. Thanks in advance for whoever responds!

I just want new players to see this again. For new pilots I can't stress enough how useful it is to have teammates that practice a tactical advance and communicate with each other. For new pilots reference this thread about Teamspeak servers:
Unofficial & Community-Run Voice Chat Servers

Even if you don't have a mic join one of these servers, ID yourself as a newbie and ask to join a lance. Listen to all fire commands and try to stay close to your lancemates. This will make the learning curve a lot more easy for you when you can hear others try to work as a team. Your only other option is to strike out on your own - that is a very brutal learning curve by itself.

Comstar has Education Drop bays that some of the Vets hit from time to time. NoGutsNoGalaxy is also a good place to find a team. Good luck!
