So I'm just a couple of weeks into building my own mech. I get decent with my first mech regularly breaking 350 damage per game and netting at least 1 kill. All my basics are unlocked. However, what I saw today boggles the mind.

I had finished off 3 enemy mechs in the match so far and was damaged quite a bit. I saw an enemy Stalker coming our way. So, trapped in the corner, I duke it out with him. I fire my medium lasers and move. He fires what looks like 2 large lasers and misses. I pop out to fire again and those same 2 large lasers fire twice by the time I get to fire mine once.

Now, I thought maybe he had 4 large lasers. I look at the scores post-match and he has over 900 damage. Is there some sort of function that allows you to fire over twice as fast?

Note: this is the first time I've seen someone achieve anywhere over 500-600 damage in two weeks of gameplay.

No, there is not. It was just a normal LL-Stalker, those normally use 5-6 large lasers. And getting over 900 dmg is not magic, even breaking signifcantly over 1000 is feasible once in a while.

Short answer is no. The game is server-authoritative... that means that the server is the one determining whether a mech can fire its weapons in its specified cooldown.

Chances are, a Stalker would be chain firing when its heat is up there, so it's probably a lot more viable for it to do that and still not shutdown.

One of the elite tier skills does allow you to fire faster but it is a small margin.

The mech you saw is more than capable of mounting four or even six large lasers, which are easily broken into separate weapon groups. Many Stalkers have four energy mounts in the arms, easy to have four LL in the arms and fire them two by two.

The above are very true. The typical stalker that carries large lasers will have between 2 and 6 large lasers. When boating large lasers, it is ideal to chainfire them in pairs (pair 1, pair 2, pair 3) which makes them seem to fire twice or three times as fast. Since Stalkers have twin energy in each arm, they can use 4 LLs and fire them in pairs; it'll look like the same two lasers (one from each arm) fired twice.

The Atlas RS is also known for this trick.

My Cataphract 1x uses 5 Large Lasers. I can fire them all up to three times in a row, or chainfire them to run cool while always having at least one laser tagging you non-stop.

This -- my first super high score with super high kills -- was in a stalker 3H when Large Pulse Lasers generated as much heat as ER PPCs do now. I had only ~two~ large pulse lasers with 22 Double Heatsinks and 2 SRM-2s. Not streaks. SRMs.
