I think I have tried a few times to suggest a better HUD display.. This one is based off current version, with a few minor changes that I believe would improve the game.. I used the Conquest game mode for details.

Why do we need the tab key... We use it for info not on the hud..

Who is alive, Who is not alive so on.. Why is this info not on the hud?? I don't know..

Hud 2.0 it is..
In the upper left hand corner you see the displays for Everyone on your side..
You see their location, health status, and kill count..
you also see the lances total health and kill count. So in one quick glance you know who is alive and who is dead.. you also see the mech they are in..

Who is in charge of this show ?!!..

In the upper left hand corner you see your lance colors, and you see the lance leaders colors in different colors. Silver for lance leader, and Gold For HDIC.
On the mini map you can also tell what they are targeting, as it is not only colored RED, but colored Gold, or silver, Or Gold and Silver if targeted by both.. This alleviates the need to call out the shots.. What is the leader targeting, the gold or silver one, or the gold and silver one..
What should i target?, the same one..

The lance Leaders should be chosen by Elo 3 highest on that side by default..
Players are welcome to change it by the Map function, same way they do it now..

In the middle of the screen you see the Hexagons a inspiration from the TT game..
It has the Greek Symbol for the bases, and that bases Capture status..
pretty simple..

It may be a little harder to see it, but the Greek Alphabet was also added to the Nav bar..
Why the Current one didn't do that, i don't know.. Which way to THETA.. That i do know!! follow the T. No need to press B and get shot..

At the bottom of the Screen you see the Text Chat with Color backing,, so no matter what you can see the text..

Under the weapons display .. I added the Missle Bay indicator.. Big Red X for closed,
and the Cockpit light indicator.. X for off, O for on.. (its a feature, might as well fill in the space.)

Lastly, the Kill count beside the Clock was also added.. Two ways to win Conquest.. why not display them both..

Lastly, I added a feature to were to the HUD always loads... Waiting for that one to come true also..

Everything else pretty much plays out the same..

Let me know what you think.. Then Let PGI know..

reminds me of WoW raids lol.

But yeah, the current hud is severely lacking useful battlefield information, particularly the health and weapon loadouts of your teammates.

Would be a clear improvement to the current system, nice suggestion. There is still a little bit room in the upper right side of the screen between where enemy weapons are shown and greek letters. Here could be displayed e.g. lance/team orders by stating the MISSION & POSITION. "Capture E5". "Defend D3". Etc. One would of course need to check mainmap to see what point exactly in that grid the leader wants to be defended or whatever. But would be nice to see it directly there IN ADDITION to the minimap symbols, because they just aren't intuitive enough for me to understand whether they want me to def or attack or what. So basically, "English, m0th3rfracker, do you speak it?!".

I agree with it, but there needs to be room for a full sentence and that Paperdoll is in the way.. But if they Move it, and separate Lance leaders chat, and put it up in the right corner, and drop the "ALL" chat and Team chat to bottom.. I'm hoping with more HUD info the Team chat would be reduced, and when people should chat and don't, that group targeting will help.

They can put a better chat at the bottom if they Rolled the Mini Map More Flat.. I shrank that one to get it to fit..

Looks good, I'd almost like to see a missile door indicator, the current one sucks.

I like the slight angle.

Just one thing: Add a hit location indicator in the weapon list. I want to know whether I am selecting my left or my right arm weapon for a weapon group without firing the gun first.

i'm not sure i follow.. A "hit indicator" only happens after you fire the weapon, and i'm not sure how that affects the selection?

Now, if you want to fragment the Selection to a Left are or Right Arm before you fire so your building or mountain seeking bullets wont hit something, i can understand that.. but left face it,, they will hit something if your standing next to it.. haha
I think i understand where you are going..

You do undestand everything in this game is line of site.. and this is what you would get,, Fog of war, with no hud.. That's pretty much the reality of it.. looks like fun.. have fun with that..

I don't like the changes visually. It would be nice to have information on the whole company/partial company but not the way you have presented.

Also the other two lances should both be the same color as to better differentiate ones own lance.

Nice work on the pic, but now there's too much info. I'm sure any new MWO player will agree when I say, there's no need to have the names, statuses, mechtypes and targets in multiple colors of EVERYONE in your team shoveled into your face while you actually try to do some fighting. New players would think "Hell, this game sucks...it's too complicated for my brain".
Also, there's a key for this kind of info, and by default it is the TAB key. Perfectly fine. Yeah, go ahead and cry some more how you always get dismantled by enemy fire if you press TAB for a second to find out the name of some teammate. It's a part of tactical thinking to find out WHEN to obtain information you may need. HINT: No smart soldier does information gathering while getting blasted.

Furthermore, I'm sure the devs will improve some HUD info, like a missile door indicator etc. They probably planned this months or even years ago. No need to state the obvious. The game is still BETA and stuff will come. Just wait and see.

I like your cap point indicator though. Just make it smaller.

Edit: Maybe it would be a grand idea to put all the additional information on the small monitors that are spread in the cockpits of all Mechs. You know, those screens that say: [AUTO DETECT (NO SIGNAL)
You'd have to actually move your virtual head to spot some monitors, how awesome is that?

Kind of like this: Posted Image

"It's a part of tactical thinking to find out WHEN to obtain information you may need. HINT: No smart soldier does information gathering while getting blasted."

I understand your point of view, and it is appreciated.. I would like to also point out that a smart soldier also has a great deal of

Situation awareness(SA). SA involves being aware of what is happening in the vicinity, in order to understand how information, events, and one's own actions will impact goals and objectives, both immediately and in the near future.

for instance if i see a lance go down in the C4 area, I know i might not want to run to that area Guns blazing.. The tab key does not offer location information.. i doubt anyone new to the game would not approve of being kept alive..

Another part of being a good soldier is understanding Chain of Command.. Who is in charge and what do they want me to do..

8 man random groups seldom communicate.. typing while dying is complicated.. and normally most people don't type until they die.. And once they die they want to Disco and move to the next round.. Communication is key to winning.. My suggestion takes more of the guess work out of that and improves Situational awareness.. 12 v 12 i can only imagine will be even more chaotic..

I'm sure the Devs do have something in the works but i haven't seen anything in this regards.. Other than working on the HUD crashes which seems to be eluding them.

Ui 2.0 seems to take care of getting your Mech to the battlefield..
CW seems to cover who gets there...
a Hud 2.0 is needed for once it gets there.. Seems like a good time to have that conversation.. Lord know the same old conversations about ECM, MG, LRMS, arn't getting anywhere today..

Hit Location Indicator - e.g. saying where the weapon is seated - in the left arm, the right torso..

Quote

Now, if you want to fragment the Selection to a Left are or Right Arm before you fire so your building or mountain seeking bullets wont hit something, i can understand that.. but left face it,, they will hit something if your standing next to it.. haha
I think i understand where you are going..

That's exactl what I'd use it for. If I know my left arm is still behind cover but my right arm could hit something, I want to fire the right arm weapons. I typically set weapon groups up accordingly.

I am relatively good by now how this works for the arms, but for torso weapons, it's more a guess.

Mind you, things will be easier with UI 2.0 and the ability to set weapon groups in the mech lab already. (The mock-ups at least s how the hit locations there as well), but assuming you can still tweak the settings in game, it makes sense to know the location.

It could also be improtant for othe reasons - for example, if I see my left arm is heavily damaged, it might be good to c heck which weapons I'd lose if I lose the left arm (assuming I forgot).

---

I support calls for making more of the in-game cockpit monitors functional and display useful information on them.

I fell that all this inforation should be eihter on the monitors , or, if on the hud, optional: Give usan option screen to choose which information windows we want in the hud, and , most of all, let us move and resize them according to personal preference.

You're right, it would be useful to have features that give you a little more SA. Because I ran in wrong directions often enough, simply because I lacked proper info on the location and engagement of the teams, both enemy and friend. While these situations can obviously happen and will boost immersion, I feel that they happen too often, especially with all those ECM carriers around. A few adjustments on sensors and HUD info displayed could do the trick. Clearly, there's still the need for a discussion about this topic.
