Has anyone heard anything close to concrete about the ability to hire one-another? And will it only be extended to Merc Corps? Most of us Lone Wolfs would like the chance to make a name for ourselves and be hired by houses, clans, merc corps, etc.

with PGI/IGP informational track record (i blame mostly IGP) even if they said something concrete it would more then likely change long before or even after release of CW.

Fair, but I'd like to know that this is coming somehow. I'd like the idea of getting to be a decent enough pilot to ask a million or two for a particularly important battle, or half a mil because someone absolutely needs a good light pilot.

You don't get contracts in the way you are thinking.

The way it works is that Lonewolves or Merc Units will be pledge the match to one of the 6 factions. Their results go to aid that faction, and in return the player receives certain loyalty bonuses and a higher payout.

That's... ********. I'm not a lone wolf to be an "honorary" faction member. The point of being a Lone Wolf is a lack of loyalty. Do you have the source of this info? I'd like to make sure I've got everything before I post more about this. Thank you, Syllogy. We really wouldn't get half this info without you.

Sure, here is the best source:

CW Video of Bryan Ekman at GDC:
  • Bryan Ekman Introduced: 6:20
  • Community Warfare Overview: 6:35
  • Lonewolf (Solo) Playstyle: 6:45
  • Faction (Passive) Playstyle: 7:00
  • Guild / Merc Unit (Active) Playstyle: 7:40
  • Lobby, Map Voting, and Dropship System: 8:25
  • Commander Incentives: 10:15
  • Relationship between Factions and Merc Units: 11:00
TL;DW:
  • Lonewolf players are your most casual players. They log in for a couple hours a week, make some C-Bills, and only have a small impact on Community Warfare.
  • Faction Players are more frequent players than Lonewolves. They choose a faction, and all of their results aid that faction in Community Warfare. They gain ranks, awards, and are given bonuses based on the performance of that faction in Community Warfare.
  • Merc Unit Players are the die-hard, hardcore players. They don't have a huge impact in Community Warfare when it comes to factions but they can go after their own resources and bonuses, and fight for their own territory. They have much more control over that portion of the game than Lonewolves or Faction players. The downside is that Merc Units must consistently field units in order to maintain their resources and territories. Some of their bonuses are based on loyalty points granted from pledging their matches to various factions.
Eventually, I would love to see contracts. Maybe in the form of daily and weekly challenges similar to Halo. Something like:
  • (7 Days to Complete as an Individual) Get 4 enemy kills on Alpine Peaks in an Awesome 8R for a 300,000 C-Bill Bonus
  • (7 days to achieve as a Team) Win a Conquest match on Forest Colony by killing all enemy mechs for a 100,000 C-Bill Bonus.
  • (24 to achieve as an individual) Kill Syllogy to receive a 500,000 C-Bill Bonus.

While I'd love to see your "universal" contract idea implemented, as it is an awesome idea, I'd really like to see factions and corps able to hire individual lone wolfs directly. It would be awesome to be able to make a name for yourself, and then ask 2 or 3 million to be present at an important battle.

The houses being more "Macro" play and the mercs being more "Micro" play does make sense. I just really hope that they give some more to Lone Wolfs. The ability to be specifically hired would be nice.

A great idea. Would be good for house mechs to maybe make small wage for staying loyal and such to. Would be a fun layer to add wages of some sort. Bonuses for important battles or even bounties and so on.

This should be faction and then possibly player driven for alot of reasons I think.

Frankly I´d pay lone wolves to stay out of a match. Just the ones who are terminally unhelpful, the others can stay.

Another way to look at it, lore-wise, is that lone wolves are the bottom of the heap. They have no alliances, no back up, no support, nothing. And unless you are extremely rich or had a sugar daddy, you would barely be able to keep your mech running and armed, even if ya were just doing guard duty. That is a lone wolf's life. You are like the guy who walks the neighbor on security duty for the neighbor watch.

Try not to your underclothes in a wad. Lone wolves, more than anyone else, should be happy that R&R was removed. PGI is not requiring you to join a faction or a merc unit. You are like a component of a mob, no real direction, no real support. The previous incarnations of MPBT had or would have had the requirement that everyone initially joining the military arm of a House before striking out on your own as a merc unit.

As for the difference between someone in the DCMS of House Kurita and a merc being diehards, that is what PGI wish but it will be far from the true. Remember, PGI initial concept was from a merc's PoV and they are still driving towards that. Lot of that will be in unit creation and control. Though many House units may very well go merc simply due to PGI's game mechanics.

Here, sit. Saki or tea, grasshopper?

:D

What Tarl Cabot said [Greetings to the house of Cabot, warriors of Gor].

Except I'm a lone wolf who plays 1 to 2 hours every day, and I'm not sure I want to join a House or Corp either. I was fine with R&R to be honest. It kept you in Hunchbacks with standard engines if you wanted to earn, but that's more "realistic" for a Merc, as far as I'm concerned.
