In Dragon Warrior 3 for the NES, you create a party out of several classes of characters. To make life easier for new players, there is a small roster of ready-made allies. Sartris was the premade healer. When I was 10, it sounded cool. It stuck.

Way back in 1985 I first played Dungeons & Dragons the tabletop RPG. I needed a name for a paladin warrior I was playing and came up with Vallend. When I got a C64 the name Vallend continued over to "A Bards Tale" and through generations of games on my computer there has always been a Vallend. When Ultima Online came out I jumped online and of course a Vallend was born there. So the name continued on through many Online games. Matter of fact more people online know me as Val or Vallend than by my real name.

You can go to Abandonia.com and DL it there and play it if you have a DOS box program. :-) I did that for the original Mechwarrior and Pools of Radiance.

PS: It's legal so no worries :-)

You do realise that's illegal, do you?
Unless the IP-holder of those games actually release those games for me, its illegal.
Regardless whether or not the game is otherwise unavailable.

Well, seeing a Drac on here, I decided I would join in.

Hey, at least I have a valid reason to be in here.

That why its called Abandonia. I was going to define it myself but then it would be better to have someone else define it better then I would :-)

Wikipedia: "Abandonware is computer software which is no longer being sold or supported by its copyright holder. Alternately, the term is also used for software which is still available, but on which further support and development has been deliberately discontinued. Since the software is no longer sold or supported, the copyright holders are not directly harmed in any way. This is why abandonware sites are, for the most part, ignored by the law. The distribution of copyrighted software however is, and will allways be, illegal!

For something like Mechwarrior where the IP has not been abandoned, the key parts of the statement above are the last three sentences. Yes it is illegal to distribute copyrighted software, but because the copyright holders are not being harmed in anyway, they are generally ignored. Now if Microsoft came along and said stop, they would have to. You will notice that they do not have the other Mechwarior games available because I'm sure Microsoft has said something about it. But because the original is Activision, and they are not charging for it, its not being perused. Most of the game on the site are truly Abondoneware.

Strictly speaking if you want to push the argument, I the original Mechwarrior being there is illegal, I don't feel like getting into an argument about it. :-)

It just is one of those things that have always been and will always be, some times im smiffyjoebob, some times im smiffyjoe, others im smiffy....sometimes im Joanz (PRONOUNCED JONES!!!! NOT JOANNES....ITS CALLED VOWEL RULES LOOK THEM UP!). but yeah no really cool story behind it, its just something that is.

if youve seen me gimme a shout perhaps im still playing that game.

Jezebel is a name with a few layers.

Today, it's a word that means a "wicked, willful, shameless woman". It's also used as a reference to promiscuous Southern women.

However, I respect the actual historical figure and am of the opinion that she got a bad rap at the hands of patriarchy. :)

Historically and Biblically she was the Queen of Israel, wife of Ahab. Short version, she is at odds with the Prophet Elijah because she persists in worshiping the *** Ba'al and encourages others not to give up their ancient faith in the name of the new ***. She is, of course, killed.

One of my favorite games is Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force (Set Phasers to Frag!). Star Trek being my all time favorite Sci-Fi franchise (with BT and Doctor Who being close seconds), I ate it up.

Perfecto Oviedo (Crewman, I think, maybe Ensign) was the weapons clerk on USS Voyager in that game. You went to him before most missions to get your gear. I loved the name, and always loved hearing the computer on the main menu say "Crewman Perfecto Oviedo" when you clicked his name, so I started using that.

Stinger: Derived from Stinger Missiles. Probably 15 years ago, my uncle told my brothers, my cousin, and I a long and interesting story that he completely made up. Each of us were a character in that story, and my character's weapon of choice was a Stinger Missile launcher, earning me the nickname of Stinger. In a similar fashion, my younger brother still goes by Shot Gun (two words), and my cousin's name of choice is still Scar. All of this started from the same story.

Used to watch Saturday Anime one the Sci-Fi channel long long ago (before it was syfy or whatever it is now) and there was a movie called Demon City Shinjuki. The main guys father dies (in a pretty awesome way) at the very begining of the movie and never even gets a line. At first I thought it was lame but by the end of the movie you find out that the reason he died was he put all his magic power in his sword so that his son could come along, get the sword and kill the bad guy. I dug the whole "died saving the world thing" so again, it stuck. Wasn't until years later I learned I spelled it wrong (Genichirou). Also everyone calls me konnichiwa anyway.

Well my name breaks down like this:

Vincent or "Vinny" is usually the name of a "Wiseguy" on some of those mobster movies. Usually hes the brooding smartass that gets the job done.

Magnum or Mag is my favorite weapon be a .357, .44 or 12 gauge just cant beat the stopping power of a magnum.

I was briefly painting some of my mechs in cappy colors, just a test to see if I liked the color scheme. Playing those mechs against a friend, he named me "the Cappelan Coconut." Since I've moved on to Kirstins Krushers, so the colors have changed. So I've dropped the cappy part, and kept the Coconut part.

My name came from an old message board RPG based off of he Super Robot Wars video games. I used to be the only "Mechwarrior" at the time. He was a hardened merc in the middle of an anime giant robot fest. Good times.
