Trolling my pub games with 2xLB-10X, 3xSRM6+A, and 2xMPL with ECM on my DDC. I just hide and ECM umbrella our snipers until someone gets impatient and closes in... then facemelt happens. I'm surprised to average 500 damage and get 2-4 kills and a bunch of assists in this thing (when I'm not lagging so bad that I rubberband the moment I fire). :)

I think that the Atlas is an excellent brawler so I don't bother trying to go fancy with the snipefest with it. Just Alpha 'til you reach the top of the heat scale then sustain with LBX and squeeze in SRMs as heat allows. And don't be afraid to overheat and shut down in front of the enemy like a real man should.

Well after mastering all the Jagers, I decided to change it up for my second mech and went with an atlas. It took me the last week to adjust to moving slower and shooting from points that were not surrounding my cockpit. But I got it down to this:
AS7-D-DC

UAC's are on chain fire, SRM's are all shot in one lump. There is room to change out ammo for heatsinks, but I have not needed it. I actually just got two matches in a row with 6 kills and 900+ damage, and that's with only the basic pilot skills unlocked :) I am going with beginners luck and calling it a night before I get a match with only 50 damage done before death.

Just a curious newbie question:

I see more Atlases now with double LB-10X rather that AC/20. Was wondering why?

Current build I'm playing with for the Atlas-D.

Standard 300, DHS, 2 AC5's, 4 medium lasers, 2 SRM6's, AMS, plenty of ammo.

It's not ground-breaking or something, but the steady hammering of the dual AC5's as I close really hurts.

LBX has a faster fire rate, so does (on paper) more damage in a sustained firefight. The question is whether it's doing that damage to stuff the pilot cares about hitting :)

IMO, it's not a good call in this meta to rely on being in facehugs, but I am probably at least going to try it at some point.

It works pretty well. So many people are not used to brawling anymore that they are sitting ducks once you get into range. :(

Well, if you really hate the scenery, I think it's the perfect weapon for you.

Couldn't agree more. Also been loving the crap out my 2xLB10-X builds on my AS7-D (and even on my Cataphracts).

But it is pretty apparent a lot of people have forgotten how to brawl. Unless my PUG team is really disorganized I'm hard pressed to hit under 600 damage (just topped 1.2K this week for the first time). I just aim to demolish every mech in view and rack up assists - the kills quickly follow suit, along with the wins.

Sniper/LRM meta aside, I just have way more fun brawling and by choice I haven't boated PPCs or Gauss since March.

Depends on how you look at it. Most players I see firing their PPC/Gauss/AC20 miss quite often. Misses equal zero damage. At 400m I'd venture 2xLB10-X have about a 50-75% pellet hit rate on assaults (dwindles down a bit for smaller chassis). 10-15 spread damage > 0 damage of a high alpha miss. And once you're in the 150m killzone the LB10-X might as well be a regular pinpoint AC, except it also has a much higher chance of wrecking multiple ammo and components with each volley. Feel free to not use LB10-X though, it makes me feel safer. :D

Even with the meta change I'm still having the most fun with my Atlas-RS build:

Jiggly's Eye Poker

It only has a 51 pt alpha, but all shots can go to a single hit box simultaneously. Good torso twist allows you to target even light mechs. Ok speed. Kills everything (except Spiders :D ) shockingly quick.

After the heat penalty change, you can manage two consecutive alphas without overheating, which is almost enough to core an Atlas. Then you hide for 5-10 seconds, and emerge to deliver another alpha. If you play smart and your team is good about supporting you, this build will absolutely demolish the other team.

Another benefit: on the Atlas 4xLL looks exactly like 2xLL, so the other guy may not even realize how badly he's being damaged until it's too late.

It is only good for crit-seeking. You need to be hugging stuff for almost pinpoint damage. BTDT.

This is mine:

eRoik's D-DC

Pretty effective build. When the situation asks for it you can brawl or snipe
good damage at all range.

This is my mech, an AS7-RS, "Golem I", LRM Boat version

Speed: 48.6 kph / Tonnage 99,7 out of 100 / Firepower 66 / Heat Efficiency 1,14 / Armor 614
Standard Armor, Endo-Steel Structure, Double Heat Sink, Artemis
Std Engine 300, two LRM 15 (720 missiles ready), one AC/10, two Large Laser, one Medium Laser

On a visit to a friend I played the trial ATLAS and then I got curious.. it was the (-C-) Version of the RS-type and I had much fun with it. So I decided to buy this mech and make some improvements for me.
I wanted to have a LRM boat and so I added two LRM 15 with Artemis. Additional to that I don't want to be killed by a light who finds me, so I built some severe weapons on it to brawl against all comers.
I needed a lot of matches to buy all the items and devices I wanted to have (70 matches).
