Hi All. I have always loved the Fafnir since I saw David White's redesign for Mechwarrior 4. It was so much more streamlined and just mean looking. I got a paper model of it from BlaaR and had a friend in Germany use that as a template to "etch" the pieces onto plastic. He did not cut the pieces out...I still had to do that...he just etched out the main lines. After weeks of cutting, gluing, detailing, filling and sanding I did a rough assembly to shoot some pics for all of you. WOW! Totally from scratch! Very nice job.

Here are more pics. This is completely scratch built...no 3D printed parts (that is an art form all its own), no kit. Just me, my knife, and sheets of plastic. Its about 90% done...still have to do the shields around the Gauss cannons...a little more sanding, putty, and a few more details.

Holy smokes. I think this is your best built yet. Fafnir is walking tank.

I remember when I did the clean up job for this, it was hard and I must have re done the torso area oh, I don't know. Weeks. Glad it turned out well.

Now you just need to paint it.

Wow that is incredibly well done. I remember just trying to assemble airfix, I would usually find bits of it glued to my clothing after completing it and the canopy was always a smeared mess. Kudos for such a neat hand-built model especially as you modelled each part yourself.

I did have a wee bit of help. A friend in Germany used the paper plans of BLaaR to "etch" an outline of the pieces on to plastic, so I had a guide to follow when I was cutting. It improved my accuracy quite a bit versus my usual "freehand" method. I may use this method for my future builds.

it's a beaut man. Now that I am landed in Mexico, reminds me I gotta start assembling that Victor Kit, as soon as I repaint my house here, I plan to add a Shelf above my TV/Computer center to feature it and my other Mechwarrior related paraphenelia (especially if I can get some of the minis printed like Sentinel has done.)

Amazing work, Hard to believe it's not computer controlled, its so clean and precise. Unless.. Are you sure you're not a robot?

It makes printing mechs almost.. lazy. How long did that take you?

Amazing work, detailed craftsmanship, monstrous level of detail. I have all good things to say about this project but one... You choose the ugliest version of the Fafnir brother. Like yourself i love the Fafnir beyond words but the mini is actualy more beautifull to me then the 12x4 box with legs.

Still i salute your love for our mech.

That is a point that could be endlessly debated. Personally, I thought the TRO version was horribly designed...I like this big, boxy version.

one thing i dont get. how do you start building something like this? i mean where do you get the material and how do you edit it?
does this material just come in sheets or something? I'd love to try my hand at something like this

amen brother!!!!

TRO version was ludicrous, IMO, whereas the MW4 version had BRAWLER wrote all over it. Might be partially because White tends to own Plog (IMO) as an artist though.
