Crashed to Desktop? Fatal Error? Frozen? Let us know what happened here!

Please attempt to respond to the following questions in your responses:
  • Was any error message provided with the crash, if so, which?
  • Where in the game or menus did the crash occur?
  • What steps had been taken prior to the crash occurring?
  • Does the crash re-occur for you if repeating those same steps?
  • What are your video settings, did you change them since last patch?
  • What are your System specs? (You can include them in a [spoiler] [ /spoiler]
In some cases we've seen that deleting the shaders folder and relaunching the game will solve these crashes and related issues.


Simply delete the shaders folder located here by default:

C:\Games\Piranha Games\MechWarrior Online\USER\Shaders

installed the latest patch, got to the mech bay program crashed when I launched into battle. Since I am unable to lunch MWO. Process is running but app is not starting.

Deleted shaders folder, am up and running again... Strange.

Made 2 attempted runs in my blackjack in the canyons, both crashed early on - game freezes. I did not have issue in Champ Jenner. Continuing to test.'

just ran river city ok - saw another BJ crashed though.

Many more matches, and seems stable, no crashed related to anything specific.

its 3am.. thought of a quickie before bed.. bought a blackjack.. some tweaks and loadout.. launch.. dreaded blackscreen..
going to sleep now. hope its isolated case on my part :D

5 matches so far in BJ. 4 blackscreen and crashed to mechlab mid battle. No issues so far on other mechs.

2 drops, 2 crash to mech lab. Once on Canyon, other on River City Night. Both times with BJ-1 mech. Didn't do anything unusual just POP. I've had this problem for months, but it seems worse today since patch. Feeling very discouraged.

Many lockups and crashes with this patch. Game either locks up and I have to ctr-alt-del to get out, or during gameplay, game just crashes back to mech lab. Played 2 or 3 games to completion out of 10 attempts. Any map, any mech doesn't matter.

Lots of Crashes again - okey Patchday and Servers are unable to manage the Traffic - will see how it turns out in the next Days.

I've been crashing to mech lab very frequently. I'll either play for a minute or so before crashing or i'll crash before the game even loads the map or players. None of my drivers, hardware, or settings have changed at all. I tried deleting the game files and doing a fresh install, but it's only made the problem worse it seems. My setup has an i5-3750k @ 3.3ghz, 8gbs of ddr3 ram, and a gtx 560 ti thats overclocked. Also, I can't seem to find the User.cfg file to alter my FOV back to where I prefer.

Crashed to desktop during launching to a match, no error message. Normal steps, playing the game, selected assault, pressed launch, found a match but game crashed during loading the map.

Video Settings: 1920x1080, game visual settings custom (almost everything high except shadows and environment detail low) v-sync on.

Most important specs relating to problem;
Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit
Intel Core i5-3450 @ 3.10 Ghz (standard, not overclocked)
12Gb RAM
Geforce GTX 560 Ti (standard, not overclocked)

CPU & GPU Temperatures normal

Out of the 5 games I have tried to play since crash only one went to completion. First crashed at BB startup sequence. Second about 45 seconds into canyon without seeing an enemy mech. Third was frozen city - again about 45 seconds in when I saw first enemy. 4th on canyon worked ok. 5th on tourmaline desert conquest - again 30-45 seconds in. All games were in a Catapult A1.

All crashes are "Program has failed type and have to re-load the patcher.

Edit - 6th crashed as well with "Mechwarrior Online has stopped working"

Edit - 7th game crashed about 3 seconds in.

In about 10-15 games since patch I've CTD in 3. Running the repair tool now, and it seems like a LOT of my files get bad hash. It's running quite slow though, so can't say if this helps until tomorrow.

crashed at the end of my second match. never made it to the score screen. dropped with no messages or warning, first time in a week.

3 games so far after patch.

1. Canyon Network - CTD before mech startup (didn't even get to the screen)
Ran repair tool.
2. Canyon Network - Completed, no issues.
3. Frozen City - CTD at Theta during match (no combat) It gave me the "MWO has stopped working..." message.

It's even worse than before. These are no longer just Crashes to Mechlab, they are Crashes to Desktop.

Argh! I have to stop playing again and wait for the NEXT patch. I keep hoping you've resolved your issues, and then it happens again... even worse. I'm a Legendary Founder, had faith in you, and I can't play!

I'm running an AMD FX 8120 (3.1 GHz 8-CORE!), 8GB DDR3, GTX GeForce 550 Ti 1GB DDR5, SSD, Windows 7.

Post-patch, I've been crashing out to the desktop mid-game in just about every other match. It's very random and happens in the middle of the action. The game window immediately shuts down and I'm returned to the home screen where I can see my mech is still in-game. Prior to this patch I've never crashed out of the game, even running very high settings. So far I've deleted the shaders folder and run the repair tool; but nothing has resolved the problem. No changes were made to any video settings.

7 games so far, 5 crashes to mechlab within 45s of game start. No error messages, no nothing, just boom. 3 of those were on canyon, one on frozen city, one on forest colony snow. No changes to any of my video settings (all on high) or hardware.

I crash 20 seconds after dropping very consistently(5 for 5 now). I'm on a slow internet connection so I'm thinking that's probably the problem.

Update from previous post. I decided to keep better track of my games.

jm6-s river city night finished the match
jm6-3 alpine peaks crash to mechlab after about 10 secs in game
jm6-dd alpine peaks crash to mechlab about 2 mins into game
as7-rs canyon network crash to mechlab around 5 mins in game
jm6-s forest colony crash to mechlab about 3 mins in

Ran the repair tool...no errors found...did fix to clear cache

took a break for dinner and some tv

jm6-s canyon network crash to mechlab 7-8 mins into game.

Win7 64bit
Core2 duo 3.0ghz
8 gig of ram
Nvidia GTX 660ti

I am not overclocking anything.

Running my 3L crashed on Caustic Valley.
