I think a jump-capable BJ-Wang actually looks viable.

It's surprising that adding 5 tons to the BJ didn't improve the Wang.

Some serious thoughts on the BJs:

They seem to be a little squishy, but like the HBK-4P, you don't want to expose yourself as much as you have to.

I think the BJs in general suffer the same fate as the Jager with respect to torso twisting - they are still cored easily.

Subsequently, I think an XL engine is viable on them that that reason alone. STD engines are still good options, but you may want to play like an awesome, where you have to turn perpendicular to your target (especially on the BJ-1X with its limited torso twist) to reduce damage to your CT.

I think the BJ-1DC is mostly unsalvageable unless it gets the an engine buff... 6 meds + 2MGs or something like that would require more speed for it to be viable.

I'm with everyone else, in that I want to like this thing, but on paper, it looks like it's going to suck. I want to try all the mediums, but I also want to get into the heavies, so I may just hold out until the Orion comes out. With that said, here's what I came up with:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...b8938fc51a38525

A slightly different take on the 1X. I happen to have a 280XL sitting around, so I tried to see what I could do with that. It has slightly more firepower than a 4P, with almost 20kph more speed than it, with speed tweak. The twin LLs also give it some better range and semi-zombie power if the arms go (I'm guessing they'll make decent shields) It looks hot, but so does a 4P. I'd use it just like one: Get into position, wait for the big guys to engage the enemy, and then pop out and give a focused strike on a vital part. The speed will also help with flanking, and with a 48 point strike, you wouldn't want this in your back.

Add FF (you have the slots) and you'll have the tonnage to max the engine (295XL):

I'm doing what I can to actually make the BJ a good experience (and Jenner-F for that matter), boating medium lasers is very boring. The lack of different range profiles is also a buzz kill fun wise, I like to be able to engage at more ranges.

To that effect I have been having a blast mixing up heavy ranged weapons with close range 'scalpels'-bundles of small lasers.

BJ-1X - 2 PPCs and 6 small lasers, because they dont have overlapping range profiles I'm able to keep my DPS up without over-heating in spite of the minimal heat sinks.
BJ-1 - 2 AC/5s and 4 Small Lasers, new build, still testing. The really high DPS looks good on paper, but with the slow speed of this chassis, the small lasers might be wasted. Id drop the XL 210->200 if I had one for another tonne of ammo.
BJ-1 - 2 AC/2 and 2 Medium Lasers, had better experiences than 2 AC/5, 2 Mediums, this is a great finisher mech due to high sustained DPS, if the first BJ-1 doesnt pan out then this is mah boy!

I'm running a similar build with this BJ-1; it has twin AC5s with 4 tons of ammo, and two medium lasers for a burst of extra firepower and late in the battle if my AC5s are empty. I've also tried swapping out the medium lasers with an AMS, one ton of AMS ammo, and a small laser which works okay versus the LRM volleys but leaves me with a single small laser if my ammo runs out.

this might actually not be half bad, nice long range smack, and in close you still got a decent 30 pnt alpha that isnt horrible on heat.....

I actually just finished a few matches as a gauss rifle equipped blackjack. Ended up in a long range duel with an atlas in the mountain map and finished with 281 damage done. My blackjack only had a gauss rifle and two small lasers, but I was having fun.

It's more methodical than the dual AC5 build, but fun in a different way.

Sadly I have been crashing a lot so I haven't really been able to play them that much. Here's the 3 matches I was able to play with my BJ-1.

1st match - new canyon map. Get up to fire at an enemy an "OMGWTFBBQ LRMs!" followed by my immediate death.

2nd match - using minor adjustments to the stock build I succeeded in plinking a few targets with the AC2's but was ultimately killed.

3rd match - put on 2 AC5's and took off two medium lasers. Did a really decent job with this.

Hopefully when I am able to play without crashing I will be enjoying these.

Using a 1 DC with a AC10 + 3 toms ammo and a LL (+2 small lasers)

Works pretty good XL235, sometimes I swap the LL and SLs + 1 HS for a LPL

Has endo and DHS

Works pretty good with just basics unlocked.

People tend to think i'm solo shooting AC5 or 2, so tend to ignore my 1 cannon... but I can run out of ammo (450) damage sometimes.

Great temwork mech for its weight, not a great light hunter or brawler by any means.

My favorite BJ-3 loadout.

This thing is a workhorse. If you stay mobile and don't engage anyone bigger than a medium head to head, you can blow holes in assaults/heavies armor without them realizing it.

The small lasers seem to have an 'aggro reducing' effect - they dont pay attention to me as much because of the red lasers. The faster recycle time and lower heat are worth it though - this thing is great on heat.

I give you the Hollander. Precisely what I plan to do with my BJ-1.

I have a post in the mech and loadouts thread about this guy. I call him the pappa urbanmech. I love this little devil, as squishy as it is, I just jump over the heads of friendly atli and sling ac/20 fire at people. Let the assaults take the hits :-P

I actually am using this build minus one ton of ammo, and add a medium laser... I find that my arm always gets blown off far too fast to use 30 rounds most of the time.

My other suggestion is to move the ammo to the arm with the Gauss rifle... It give another crit in the arm so you have a slightly smaller chance of it hitting the rifle... doesn't help much but the ammo is inert anyway so might as well put it in the arm to absorb critical hits.

Life support? I admit though, this was a bad patch for anything new.

Been using a bj-3 with duel ERppcs and it does work but only if you keep your range, it can't go toe to toe in a brawl but as a support mech it's okay, but hell I've bought it now so I'm gonna use it.
