I am also happy to report that after a full night of using my BJ-1X with 8 Medium Lasers and Max XL engine, it's a beast. If you were around in Closed Beta to enjoy the Hunch-4P before speed cap, you'll enjoy the BJ-1X as well.

As a note, and I totally understand not using XL engines, but if you upgraded to the XL version of that engine and drop the Ferro Fiber, you can stuff a lot more Double Heat Sinks in there. I have had no trouble with XLs in the BJ. When I die, I am cored. The LT and RL seem pretty hard to single out on this mech.

BJ-1X

This one is directly comparable to this:

HBK-4P

I have the 4-P and I run the above build (doesn't use all tonnage, but you get an extra heatsink)

I don't know which will be better, because you have to run an XL engine in the Blackjack in order to move quickly, and there is less armor.

Yeah, I thought about that but I already had a Standard 295. I have the cbills for the XL295 but I'd rather not spend them right now. I might go XL in the future but for now I'm ok with the Std.

The heat is very manageable in my opinion. I have the groups set up like this:
Group 1: Left Arm Lasers (3)
Group 2: Right Arm Lasers (3)
Group 3: Torso Lasers (2)
Group 4: Alpha Strike.

An Alpha spikes the heat to 45% but it still allows me to fire groups 1 and 2 immediately after. Even though I rarely Alpha in this mech. And at 106.2kph I can easily dodge until I can fire again anyway.

That is my 4P setup also. Love it.

That 4-P build is just amazing. I didn't play during CB, but I don't mind having the engine cap on this one. It is nasty if you use it right.

thing about the 4p is even with no XL engine, EVERYONE targets that damn hunch first. And once its gone your now down to 1 medium laser (since destroying side torso also destroys that sides arm) so your basicly dead anyways.

Number of 300xl engines in my lab? 3.
Number of 295xl engines in my garage? 0

If it was my mech I'd use a BFH and make the 300 fit!

1x with a 280 XL, DHS, endo and 8 mL's.
Played right and with some luck its fun.

Well, that's why I put a Std 260 in it. Going 92kph helps and plus I have a ML in my head so I still have 2 left. It's better that 1! :)

just have the 1x atm with 295std and 5-6ML (still going back and forth on whether i can keep myself from overheating all the time on 6) max armor. been playing it like a light (or should i say if i actually had any lights that i've played- but if i did i'd be playing like this...yeah that's it...) run around, sneak behind people- fire, go hide again. actually been kinda fun though.

i also find i do better fighting lights in it because i'm closer to being at eye level with them so i don;t have to lower my targeting rectile before shooting at them. arm lasers also help during the circling of doom. big stuff i really have to hit and run.

didn't try an xl since i figure i was getting blown up easy enough with a standard so an xl would be insta-death for me.

also was loooking at a 2ac5 , 4SL loadout for the BJ-1, though wondering if the 2ML zombie option might be better there just for some mid range punch since if i'm close enough for SLs i probably won;t be around that long anyway.

no idea what set up for the 3 yet. thinking maybe LL boat or something.

also i have an urge to walk up to any Jager on my team and ask it if it's my daddy for some reason when playing these. :)

BJ-1
XL220 (79.2kph)
Armor 270
3 Medium Lasers
1 AC20
4 Tons of Ammo
10 DHS (8 Engine)
2 Jump Jets

One fun build. Its like a optimized Hunchback 4G but with jump jets :P
I love it

Not the right thread actually, but this setup is what I prefer:

I don't plan or play around with advanced stuff like DHS and Endo till I know a chasis works for me.
So, many of my current loadout tests use standard equipment to see if the mech suits me or my playstyle.

Current loadouts I use are:

BJ-1X http://mwo.smurfy-ne...e84994feb479d91
Trying flamers for fun but they seem to be somewhat effective against energy weapon boats.
Torso twist angle of this variant is like falling into the steering wheel underhive hell.
Long range? Too heavy and too hot.

BJ-1 http://mwo.smurfy-ne...32497d8485c1d32
Still running hot but nice for scaring light mechs away and good at taking out damaged body parts of any mech.

BJ-3 http://mwo.smurfy-ne...22cf96bf622a94a
Switch PPCs for LL to be more heat efficient. Ok at longer ranges but runs hot and isn't any good for a longer fight.
You just won't be able to keep heat low.
I prefer PPC/LL in the torso and keep the short/mid range weapons in the more maneuverable arms for close range combat.

Still experimenting with 1 AC5/10 and other mixed loadouts.

it sort of fits actually, people are tending to try to duplicate hunchie builds with Blackjacks.

the problem is though the blackjacks greatly inferior heat efficency.

Just bought the 1X, put in the biggest XL engine and 6x ML, 2x MPL as described here many times.

It's fun. It's a lot of fun!

In my third match I dealt 745 damage. And it's fast action. At least for me who mainly plaid with a (fast) Stalker and a (fast) Jagermech. Flanking and back stabbing is such a new thing for me and it feels like a new game. Which is exactly what I wanted from an new mech.

The 295 XL engine doesn't seem to be a big bother as I lose arms before I lose LT or RT and if I die it's mainly because of getting cored. Even with one arm gone I still have 3ML and 2MPL.

I'd show my build(s) but actually stopped giving advice outside of my friends, I don't want to run across more mechs with my setup since I dominate with it.

:)
