In light of the recent patches plus matches, I have come to realize that the builds I have been running aren't working effectively anymore, now with poptarts and brawlers and the damn stalker mech stealing our jobs as ppc boats.

So with that in mind, I was wondering - for all the pilots of the Awesome, what kind of build are you running that's been working rather well recently? Got any recommendations or suggestions for a build? Or are highlanders and stalkers and atlas the rage nowadays?

Awesome is probably the worst mech in the game sadly. If I had to use one I'd go with LRMs, LL, and a tag in the current patch.

I can't recommend the Awesome in the current build of MWO. MWO is GunWarrior by Battletech balance standards and the Awesome doesn't have a ballistic slot to take part. It's being nerfed by DHS 1.4 which makes the classic Awesome energy boat impossible to operate. Otherwise I would say 5 Large Lasers or 2 ERPPC and 5 M-Pulse lasers on the AWS-8Q, and actually you can do this, but you will be overheating alot even on the ice maps.

The Pretty Baby, might make a good fast LRM mech, but the missiles will launch in two or more salvos. The regular Awesomes are limited to a 300 engine, so they top out a 60 kph, not fast enough for hit and fade LRMs, which keeps you from getting zeroed in on.

DHS 2.0 and a hard heat cap before the Clans arrive with 2 critical DHS is a must to maintain any semblance of balanced gameplay. The Clan mechs will fit 30 DHS if needed and will run cool and the IS mechs will max at 22 DHS and overheat all the time.

The only anti-boating fix MWO needs is a hard heat cap. DHS 1.4 does not stop players from boating energy weapons and it should be removed, in my opinion.

I have been running an AWS-9M 380xl 3xLLAS 2xSRM4 1xSRM6 with great success for months, but given how bad SRMs are right now... I would not recommend it. Got me to the top three on a few tourneys, but it just requires you to be a really good pilot compared to how easily you can get the same results in anything else right now.

Most awesomes rely on either ppcs or srms, and because it has no jump jets for sniping and ppcs just got whacked with the nerf hammer for sustained fire, the chassis is suffering even worse than it has been due to bad weapon hardpoint placement and awful hitboxes.

Hey, that is the exact build I ran on my 8T for months! (Just put the lrms back on because lurms). Was surprisingly good as long as you did not drop on a hot map.

If you're a man, you'll run an 8Q with STD300 engine, 3 ER PPCs and 1 small laser. The small laser is there to slap people in the face and spit in their face before you put 3 big holes in their chest.

If you're a man's man, you'll run an 8Q with 6 large lasers. Every time you alpha, the battlefield will echo with the voice of an angry god. Is it as good as a Stalker laser boat? Of course not. The Stalker is for little boys. If you want to be awesome, play the Awesome.

Before the latest patch I was running my AWS-9M this way.

However, with LRMs in this state, they have always been like kriptonyte for the chassis.. therefore maybe it's safe to drop 1DHS in favor of an AMS + 1 ton of ammo shaving off some armor from the legs, but nevertheless I'd go around in a Stalker or an Highlander, not in my awesome..

Th e only one that is working for me right now is the 8R w/ 4 ALRM15 and 3 ML. It is a beast, but I don't find LRMs to be very much fun. It is nice to see an AWS do 800 damage though.

I'm a huge Awesome fan. Having said that, I cannot recommend them at this time because they just aren't viable. The SRM nerf killed the brawler/striker options. You might be able to make an LRM boat, but LRMs are getting a hotfix patch today, so who knows if they'll still be viable.

My advice: get another mech. The Highlanders are great, probably the best Assault mech at the moment. The Awesome chassis needs some viability changes, certainly a lot more than the lame "quirks" they received a few months back.

I've been playing this thing a lot in the past week. The 2ERPPCs and the PPC haven't changed but the SRM6 gets replaced by 2SRM4s or different combos of medium lasers. I would rather stick to SRMs in the future so hopefully they'll be buffed in one of the next patches.

Regardless, its fast and it hits pretty hard but you cannot take on other assaults head on. You gotta try to be an 80 ton ninja for it to work well.

You're telling me. I've tried all forms of builds on the 9M, 8Q and 8R, and so far none seem to stick well with the current gameplay of MWO. Many times its dependent on your teammates, and even that's a huge risk factor. With the state of splash damage and the giant central hitbox, a lot of damage just tends to eat through the Awesome's front armor like it's nothing, unfortunately. Not to mention with the nerfing of the PPC - which the Awesome is designed to boat for - it is making it even more difficult to pilot the mech in the current time.

Now, how the Stalker came to steal our jobs as PPC boats is beyond me but...
Wish there was a better way to cool down the Awesome without making it lacking in armaments.

Definitely looking forward to unlocking 2x basics with my 9M to help cool it down a bit faster.

I just purchased an 8V. Im not disappointed with it, but I'm not jazzed about it either.

Was running 2x Large pulse, 1x Llas, 1x Med pulse, 3x streak srm +BAP. It is alright. But nothing to write home about. Switched to 3 LRM 10s and 3 mlas. Boring. Really Boring. But effective.

They just announced the Victor. It's an 80 ton assault mech with ballistic, missile, and energy hard points. It also has jump jets.

It will completely obsolete the Awesome. If you want a fast, maneuverable assault, the Victor looks to be your mech.

I'll give the Victor a test run when it comes out, but I'll still remain a faithful pilot of the Awesome, even if the community at large abandons it. Dx

I agree. However, what would you do about the Hellstar, a veritable 95-ton, 64 kph-fast clan death machine with 4 CER PPC's and 30 (Yes, THIRTY) Clan DHS? It was built to be able to alpha indefinitely, and with clan DHS, it does just that. The 30 CDHS sink every ounce of heat generated by the ER PPC's instantaneously. Oh, and I forgot to mention that Clan PPC's do 15 points of damage, not 10.

The only saving grace is that it reaches deployment in 3079, so we may never see it introduced... God help us if it ever is.

The Awesome could use something to give it a boost... I feel bad seeing that big, ol' armored barn not seeing play.

Decided to try out the Awesome 8Q's original build - you know, the three ppc variant?

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...95bb7492803914b

I think I'm starting to like the heat efficiency on this sucker. Your best range is going to be midrange, of 80m-500m, but with a bit of chainfiring and alpha strikes, you hardly need to worry about heat. What do you guys think?

I think that as soon as you meet a light mech pilot worth his salt, he's going to hump your leg untill you die from it. Everytime I'm in my Raven and I see an assault mech with only PPCs, I give praise to Allah and his prophet, Kerensky.
