As a Streakcat player, I find myself dealing noticeably less damage to mechs equipped with AMS and actually saw many of my missiles clawed out of the sky by the AMS, especially when the enemies are close to each other. This never happened pre-May patch.

So yeah, keep AMS equipped, or you might regret it.

edit: Even if you do not feel AMS is gonna be useful to you, remember that it still can protect your allies nearby.

I still see Lurms during many matches (although not very many people with them), so maybe I'm just in the steering wheel underhive.

/agreed. I think even with gimpy missile AMS is worth its tonnage/crits on most builds now. Noticeable against/using chain-fired Streaks. It pretty much forces full volleys...and missile shake/smoke/panic while chaining is half the trollage fun :)

Don't forget that AMS got a buff during the last patch in terms of damage, so yeah they are doing more damage to missile clusters. That'll account for the increased effectiveness.

To be honest though, I'm still not running AMS on some builds. Mostly on those that are "ambushers" anyway.. if I let myself be seen before I ambush the ******, I deserve every LRMs I eat.

True.

Light pilots on the other hand, should try it out, before coming to the forums and cry about SSRM2.

But I can't fit AMS onto my GaussJager anymore! I'd have to sacrifice firepower! Or Ammo! Or Armour!

And that's the beauty of useful AMS...for some builds, that 1.5 tons/2crits are just impossible to squeeze in...I like that :)

A Gauss Jager should be far away from any Streaks for most of the game, unless the pilot derps in the positioning.

To remove AMS I would've had to have it installed in the first place. On the mechs I play and for my play style it was never worthwhile - even post LRM and AMS buff.

By that you acknowledge that Streaks are no problem as well?

If I want to brawl with my Gauss, I'll do it.
I don't have to listen to you, you're not even my real dad.

In case you didn't notice I am just kidding. I still think Streak mechanics are bad, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't at least carry the protection avaialble against it. Unless you deliberately don't want to.

I'm not at all sure

1: Where they are seeing all of these streak cats- unless its an ELO thing.

2: How in God's name they are getting close enough to use their streaks with any consistency, let alone use them effectively when people are always blobbing, so as soon as you engage one.....

And that's assuming they don't simply run into two enemy mechs that have ECM and are reasonably close together, in which case they are SOL.

3: Why people are still whining about streaks even now.

I... are we talking about streaks, or is "Streak mechanics" a metaphor for... something else?

Unless I'm in a light SSRMs are no problem, right.
I still think their targeting and tracking should be fundamentally changed because streak vs. non-streak light duels are impossible to balance otherwise.

Fair enough. I just wanna point out that AMS is not only useful to you but to your allies next to you when they are targetted by SSRMs.

8 mechs all carrying AMS is something I never liked to face as Streakcat.

AMS + ammo is 1.5 tons. Better get the adv. seismic sensor (which takes 0 slots and weights 0 tons), and spot the streak cat coming from beyond his max range, even if s/he comes at your back.
