Merc companies should be introduced with Community Warfare. But no, I'm afraid none of us has an idea when that'll come. A lot of people are waiting eagerly for it, though.

If you mean players playing as the BT Clans, depending on who you believe and how you interpret things some time between September and March.
If you mean player controlled clans in the sense of a Counterstrike clan or WoW guild, these are what we refer to as "merc corps" or "organized house units" depending on faction affiliation, and will go live in steps with the rest of Community Warefare, with the first stage sometime in June IIRC.
One thing to note: If you decidew to form an entirely new Clan that does not exist in lore but refuse to accept that you are a mercenary group in essence, you should expect heavy resistance. The Inner Sphere warriors will shoot you because you are a "Clan", and the Clans will shoot you because you are clearly not yet claim to be.

Clans - If you mean "The Clans" as they pertain to Battletech, Winter.

That said, I'll forgive them if they give me my dire wolf.

I disagree. In reality, most of the IS still had no idea who and what the Clans were for almost another year, until the Wolf`s Dragoons spilled the beans on Outreach. Until then, even most if not all of the house LEADERS had no clue what was going on, just thgat their units were not reporting back anymore.

Up until Tywcross and the Death of Leo showers, almost every single encounter of Clans vs IS was what MWO Puggers refer to as a "Roflstomp".... From a Dev perspective, where would the point be in creatinga whole year of matches that make current balance imperfections seem like ant farts in comparison?
Seriously, people complain on a daily basis about how massively OP the clans are and how many hundreds of nerfbats need to hit them, 3/4 year before even seeing one, btu at the same time tehy complain about not being able to get usupremely and utterly crushed 50x a day as would be "correct" fiot the current phase of the invasion.
The way I see it, the 1:1 timeline is still coming along just fine, and is healthy, alive, and kicking.

The answer to your question? Up to 3 quarters AFTER "Launch" happens. If we were to hold our breath, we would all die. That is up to and almost 13 months from right now, from today. So, according to this article we'll have Clans as playable factions 13 months from right now at the latest, provided they aren't further delayed.
For those of you who aren't up to speed on financial calendar;
Q1= January, February and March
Q2= April, May and June
Q3= July, August and September
Q4= October, November and December

for accuracy's sake (thanx Pando for providing the link), the quote is "It's going to roll out within the first two to three quarters after launch and it'll start with ......"
whatever does the "first two or three quarters" mean? Does it mean "during either the second or third quarter after launch", or something more vague?

It means up to 13 months from today at the most, at the minimum 10 months from right now.
