CN9-A Honey Badger

I know, I know "Freggin nub you put an XL in an centurion!", but hey...Honey Badger don't give a F***!
<3 this build to the death!!! almost more than my AL :( well damn I don't know I think its a hard tie for sure. BTW I've been piloting centurions since closed beta and I always seem to come back to them even with all the new mechs. Comments?

Interesting build to say the least. High emphasis on close combat. XL engine with the Centurion... Hmmm...

I prefer to say that I love zombie mechs. Centurion series are arguably the best zombie mechs :(

I just got tired of seeing everyone not making use of the right arm, and with the new changes to lbx10 spread i thought i would give it a try. Of course i wanted to make use of the three streaks, but with everything i realized i would need an XL, so i tried it with an xl250 i had laying around from an old treb i believe. Suprisingly no one has been hitting my side torsos very much as they think i am a zombie mechs, and it is actually really hard to pin point damage to the centurions side torsos(that is if the pilot is decent enough to keep moving). The speed is great and the close range punch is actually even semi viable at mid range since the lbx spread has been decreased, and support from the medium lasers.

Why a case with an xl engine? No purpose there. Remove case and move ammo to legs and head. Other than that it looks fun.

Explanation:
Case doesn't prevent ammo explosions, it only stops the damage from spreading to the center torso if the side torso is destroyed by the explosion. Seeing as you die when you lose your side torso with an XL CASE is completely useless.

Agree with the legs and heads, far safer places to hide your ammo.

On a side note, CASE is very rarely worth it, ammo only has a 10% chance of exploding anyway.

Edit:
You could probably stand to drop a tonne of SSRM ammo with the CASE (1 tonne of SSRM ammo with three SSRM2 gives you 16.5 alphas, I find that's usually enough for a match) and make it an AMS or get an extra heatsink.

With the environment as it is currently, it's probably a good idea to drop the case and 1 ton of the LB-X ammo for an Anti-missile system and anti-missile ammo. Otherwise, the whole concept actually looks rather interesting.

Cents are really one of the safest mechs to run an XL, the center torso soaks up all the damage and you'll almost never die to losing the side torso. this almost identical to my CN9-A, i run a regular AC10 instead of the LBX, a BAP and XL 260, its a very strong build, it was murder on lights even before the BAP changes and even better after. its also really strong against everyone else, and not just because Streaks are still OP.

I'm not a big fan of XL's in cent's (A & AL), makes a strength into a weakness. Given that you are using an A rather than a D, I feel the XL is even more of a weakness, as you don't even get the higher speeds of the D (which can make the XL worth it).

I've been doing well recently with http://mwo.smurfy-ne...03ba5caffd97e8d

It's slower than most builds (I usually like to run at least STD250) but it is kinda fun.

just change LBX to normal AC10 its way better have 10 POINT dmg than spread dmg, and u dont need to come that close like u need with LBX. just my 5cents :)

Thanks for the feed back doods. I wasn't aware of the technicalities of case. I figured it would displace a portion of the damage from the exploding ammo away from torso it was put in, but yeah I see that has given me more tons to play with which is nice. I'll definitely add a AMS to go along with the current game play balances, and also to get that nice balanced mech' feel :D Also, about the ac10, ill probably play around with that and see which one i like most, but with the new changes to lbx spread I have found it is actually quite useful, especially for when you are moving fast, or if your enemy is. Also, I wasn't sure about the ssrm ammo and have been playing around with it. I've found that yes the ammo is a little over board. Thanks for the tips guys! Just in time for medium mech vs. the world :P Cheers!!

I came up with pretty much exactly the same thing a couple of nights ago but slightly tweaked:

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...e4fc5994171013b

The LBX ammo in the arm gets used first, while the AMS is worth having these days. The XL does work ok in a Cent as you have great control over where you get hit. But remember that firing the Streaks limits the amount of twisting you can do or you will be losing lock all the time. It isn't a 1 on 1 brawler but more a light hunter and harrasser. You should only tackle heavier mechs in a group.

Same build here, love it :D

I wouldn't take more than 2 tons of LBX/AC10 ammo though, because people often aim for your right hand. So turning it into a second shield faster might be a good idea.

Stick to heavier mechs and this baby will shine. And don't mind standard engine lovers - in a Cent your priority is to avoid damage, not endure it.

Good hunting!

Yeah, no offense OP but the Ammo placement is terrible (espesh with almost max leg armor?!!?). Personally I'd rather go CN9-AL and put a ERPPC in the arm. Yeah it will be a lot hotter, but you will have a lot more heatsinks too. Also whats up the BAP? Sorry BAP on LBX Cent is like chocolate syrup on your steak... misplaced to say the least.

^Starting too look pretty reasonable already, don't you think?

Ahh I see, BAP completely counters ECM now? Anyone test this to see how it works?

Yes, BAP now allows streaking ECM-equipped lights comfortably. Coupled with LBX, it makes scouts the easiest targets.

Ah well then drop the tag and 1/2 ton of armor or drop TAG+DHS add 1/2 ton of armor all the same things in my post apply imo. B)

i was always a fan of the uac5 i don't know why i didn't try it earlier. It seems this build has a lot of possible variants.

My 9A has what the OP has except for the CASE, BAP, and XL

I do have: STD230 (yes, slower), same firepower and almost full armor

Am I missing something here, or did you just turn your -A into a -D?

Standard CN9-D: LB-10X, 2xML, 1xLRM-10, 300XL. First thing people usually do is swap the LRM-10 for 2xSSRM-2.

Funnily enough, I run my -D with an AC/10 instead of the LB-10X.
