When the heat for these weapons was increased it was because they hit when long range weapons didn't. It gave them some needed balance. But in today's game LL hits just as consistently as SL.

Some people have been complaining about the lack of brawlers and I think giving their weapons back the punch they deserve is a great way to do it.

I know LRM's are part of it right now but I believe this is a good idea outside of that issue as it would have been effective in the poptart era as well.

I dunno, Smalls and Mediums are awfully efficient. Lots of damage for their weight, even if you consider the weight investment.

The thing hiding their effectiveness might mostly be that heavy and assault mechs generally don't have enough hard points to boat them and still be as effective as with other, heavier weapons.

The AWS-8Q was popular at some point when it could put in a bigger engine and needed to rely on standard hea tsinks. With the engine limits and dhs, you just can't fully utilize its weight, which is wasteful, and negates the entire point of using an efficient weapon. Also, of course, their lower range also makes it more attractive to have a fast mech to get closer to the enemy and not have everyone run away from them.

MLs are fine and are basically what the rest of the game should be balanced around. If it is too weak, then other things are over-powered, by definition.

SLs could use a little more range but they are situational.
