So I've used both large lasers and large pulse lasers a lot in my Heavy Metal. I either run Gauss in RA and 3 lg lasers in LA or LB-10x in RA and 3 LPL's in left. Looking at my stat,
Weapon Matches Fired Hit Accuracy Time Equip. Damage
LARGE LASER 221 7,749 6,722 86.75% 20:33:57 35,855
LRG PULSE LASER 267 8,185 7,197 87.93% 1 day 00:16:07 46,036
Looks like I do 5.33 damage/hit with lg lasers and 6.40 damage/hit with LPL. I personally like using LPL, though the extra range of lg lasers is nice too.

Keep damage and heat the same as tabletop, reduce amount of pulses or increase speed of all pulses and decrease the cooldown slightly
I would far prefer the original LPL format. that is it fired as many pluses as you decided to...I think there was a limit. but I'm not sure.
it fires as long as you hold the trigger...you can fiire a single pulse or slag you mech down...

LPL's have an identity crisis, and its all because of there big brother, the PPC.
The issue LPL's have is there the same tonnage as a PPC, and the same damage, overall, the same gun, only different skin. If an LPL was 6tons, aka keeping with the trend of how Pulse guns are 1 damage 1 ton heavier then there normal cousins (SPL being .5 and same damage as the game doesn't calculate in .5 damages). The LPL could break out from under the massive shadow that the PPC casts over it. As right now the LPL is nothing more then a beam PPC that isn't instant damage and has less heat generation and is one crit less.
LPL needs its tonnage reduced by 1, and yes the means the CERLPL will be godlike, but isn't that the point of all clan tech anyways? lol.
You can run Gauss and LPL together, you just need a slightly smaller eng to do it, and its quite the light killer
HEAVY METAL Gauss, 3x LPL, 2x SRM4. Have fun
